Jeannette, You must live in another world that no one else sees. The Syrian government is good at bombing and gassing it's own people to maintain power. If it wasn't for the U.S., Russians and Kurds, Isis would be running the country. Assad is a Russian puppet. Syria cannot and has not even been able to beat the Jewish state of Israel.

Wow, what a terrific statement of the official western propaganda! You are good! Not quite in touch with reality, but very good at propaganda talking points.

Same reason that the last US Ambassador to Syria ( Tom Ford) got kicked out of the country when he went into restricted area to meet with Syrian rebels who were actively trying to overthrow Asaad.

How would the US like it if the Syrian Amb to the US met with members of Hezbollah in some US city ?

    October 2011

BEIRUT, Lebanon — Robert S. Ford, the American ambassador to Damascus, who has been outspoken in criticizing Syria’s crackdown on popular protests, has left the country because of what American officials called threats to his safety.

Mr. Ford’s departure, made public on Monday, appeared to prompt Syria to withdraw its own ambassador, Imad Moustapha, from Washington. The moves raised the tensions between the countries to their highest point since 2009, when the Obama administration sought to improve relations that had been all but severed under President George W. Bush.

“Syria recalled its ambassador as a way to prevent the United States from deporting him,” a Syrian official in Damascus said Monday on the condition of anonymity.

An official Syrian television channel, al-Ikhbariya, said Monday night that Mr. Moustapha would return to Damascus “to hold consultations with Syrian leaders” but offered no further details.

Though both countries left open the possibility of their envoys returning,

While in Syria, Mr. Ford visited restive cities like Hama and attended a funeral for a slain activist, activities that made him a visible if controversial figure. Since the uprising in Syria erupted in March, Mr. Ford has been vocal in his criticism of government repression, even taking to Facebookand the embassy’s Web site to castigate the government or offer his version of events.

Haynes Mahoney, the newly arrived chargé d’affaires, will act in Mr. Ford’s place while he is out of Syria. Mr. Mahoney said Monday that Mr. Ford’s departure, on Saturday, did not mean the American government had withdrawn him from the post. The Syrian official said the same applied to Mr. Moustapha.

I don't care what the NYT reports.
The govt of Syria " suggested" that he leave due to security concerns.
In diplomatic language he was expelled from Syria.
He was suppose to be the Amb to Egypt succeeding the hated Amb Patterson but fortunately the Egyptians declined.

And isn't it interesting how silent Congress has been about this? How a few members have been so candid to say that they didn't even know we had troops there? Or in Africa? Most ordinary citizens I talk to did not know how many US troops were there.

This might suggest that the coup is long over, and Donald's Excellent Generals make all the calls on foreign policy.

RT is also claiming that the Saudis don't care about the Palestinians.. Most of us know the only way forward is peace and prosperity for the the region and the Palestinians .. Certainly the Saudis have known this for 20 years as evidence by the Saudi Peace Initative.

Are you completely unaware of the rolling five year plans since the early 1970s?

    Their track record speaks volumes.
