It took a decade. A decade where our involvement ended with the Vietnamese at the peace table negotiating on our terms.

Ho had the virtue of patience on the one hand and was a fast learner in tactics on the other hand.

Who marched into Saigon, ripped down our colors from the one-time US embassy, and raised their colors?

The USA dropped more tonnage of bombs when there was only a handful of troops-in country than when there were 500,000 troops in-country and victory for the USA was entirely possible. Insanity. Political malpractice.

That's the same perception the Japanese had in 1941 and that the Vietnamese had before Tet in 68. Every time other countries thought that, they've been wrong.

But maybe they are right now. We have a snowflake president who wants to cut and run after 5 casualties, so there's no way he could have 5,000.

You realize that was 3 years after our military withdrew from Vietnam, yes?

I gave you a quote that expressed how Japan felt about our resolve and the question now is does the world still see us as a sleeping giant or do they now see us as a paper tiger? In the 40s we had a strong people with a weak military. Now we have the biggest military on Earth but our resolve to use it and the strength of our people is what is being questioned. This is the exact opposite scenario of when Japan bombed pearl harbor.

One of my neighbors, long gone now, went to basic and carved his "rifle" from a 2 by to train to fight the Japanese. I don't know how much weaker a military could be. But Albert was one tough son-of-a-bitch and overcame. He was a killing machine.

No you gave a quote of how YAMAMOTO felt. Yamamoto was a minority among the Japanese military command. The Army officers that controlled the government and the route it took believed that America was a nation of snowflakes who would surrender at the first sign of force.

Much has changed since Pearl Harbor and tbe war in the Pacific

If china invades Taiwan the US will have a difficukt decision to make because we are no longer an undisputed military power backed by an overwhelming industrial base

We weren't an "undisputed military power" in 1941 and our industrial base was still recovering from the Great Depression.

The decision has long been made to throw Taiwan to the wolves.

Not if the Chinese sink a carrier. That would start a war with China in a few hours.

If you think that foreign powers are not looking at Trump and licking their chops and laughing their asses off you are sadly mistaken. The House is only 1 part of the government and Cortez is a minor player.

Really? What are we then. When it's North Korea, you're a badass. When it's China, we're a bunch of sniveling cowards. One day Democrats are war mongers and now they are snowflakes. What is it?

    In 1939-40 yes

We were way behind on the ground and in the air

But by the time Japan began the war we had made a lot of progress

We were still behind even in December 1941. We were behind until late 42, early 43.

    In some ways yes

The germans had better equipment on the ground but were overextended

Our forces combined with the brits were pretty strong

And we had the industrisl capacity to equip three nations at the same tome

    England, russia and our own

Plus take offensive agsinst Japan within 8 months

But we do not have that advantage today

If anyone does it is china

And God forgive the swamp rats in washington during the last 40 years for that
