1950's? We have one and use it several times each winter, when somebody has a cold. They're also great without medicine as simple humidifiers during very low humidity periods... Great little cheap tools..

Nicotine once used to kill insects. . Perhaps it kills or inhibits this novel virus.

Need to get a pack of Luckies! That is what I smoked in the military in late 60s. Lol

So if you got em...smoke em. The smoking light is on!

What would be your post if your president mentioned this in one of his briefings?

Mentioned it in passing as informational or recommending a potential course of action in the US without numbers to back it up?

I would have no problems with the former. However, he's essentially incapable of simple information passing without looking for some angle for personal gain.... I cannot see one here, so it won't happen...

Also, the media would have to report it for me to hear about it..

yep, testing is in order though to make sure, course no one will want to report anything positive about smoking, even if true

Could be moderate smokers lungs clean themselves out more often and are better at it

course I am guessing excessive smoking would also have the opposite results

I don’t think enough is known by anyone to reach definitive conclusions about smoking, except to say, they all die younger then they could regardless .

won't stop Trump from telling people to use it

btw, the longest person to have lived was a smoker, a title non-smokers have yet to achieve

Hence the phrase....”could die younger then they should have” . I have a 93 year old relative who has always smoked. Regardless of when he eventually dies, there is no way he would have lived a shorter life by not smoking. Smoking raises havoc with the circulatory system. That never extends life.

Smoking may perhaps inhibit getting the virus for one reason. Smokers stink so much, everyone else avoids them more. We all try to stay more then six feet away. . .

"there is no way he would have lived a shorter life by not smoking"

fake news, you don't know either way, he may have lived longer because he smoked, due to the stress relief, you can guess all you want, but you do not know

he is 93, he may live a shorter life from all the stress of people hassling him about smoking... never know

now you can say he may of, but that is all you can do, either way, 93 and still going, not a bad age - other could also say he may not of - both would be guessing

    Regardless?

Actually, from China on smokers have been vastly underrepresented in all cases, hospitalizations, intubations and deaths.

Probably related to the ACE receptors in the lungs. The way Corona viruses gain entry into the body. These enzymes have a way of regulating hormones that control vascular dilation / constriction. ACE2 inactivates angiotensin II, regulating the hormones. Nicotine is a vascular constrictor, works with the same enzymes. Many blood pressure medications use the same system. ACE inhibitors and ARB's are dilators.

It's interesting that there's questions about blood pressure drugs in this class as well.

Btw, there are many underlying conditions that require people take BP medications, all of which put them at risk when contracting covid19

Yes, nicotine is a natural pesticide. Plant produces it to ward off bugs.

That wasn’t the point. Pesticides to ward off bugs is not a remedy for a virus. getting the “ bug” is not actually like getting the flu from a virus. There is no remedy connection between the two, virus and insects. Might as well claim that maybe DEET can be used.
    . None, nada.

So which is more healthy to inhale? Smoking or Trump's brand of bleach?
