Yep, that was my point. As long as your population is productive enough (per capita!), welfare state is possible. Does not matter if we are talking about a country of 5 million or 500 million.

Why would you need welfare if your population is productive enough ? If the welfare state grows faster than the workers , you collapse .

So if the boss wants a raise he has to either raise the pay of all the low-level employees or create a new corporation and put all the low-level employees in the new corporation. Which do you think they will choose to do?

Really? They would leave their home country over not having enough excess pay? It's not as though $185k+ doesn't afford a very comfy living and a good compensation for hard work.

Frankly if someone wanted to leave over not receiving more than that, I'd say good riddance to them.

Because I am talking about an average, there would still be poor people.

    True enough.

This is a very silly and impractical idea.

So it's not surprising that libs thought of it.

You have no idea how much $185,000 is. That's the salary of a third year associate at a New York law firm.

    http://www.infirmation.com/shared/search/payscale-compare.tcl?city=New+York

That is NOT what you pay top executives of a large corporation, not if you want to keep them.

    - - - Updated - - -

It requires the government to interfere with private contracts, using the force of law, and ultimate the policeman arresting you, to enforce it.

I know how much that is. It's well over $100k more than the average full-time wage slave earns.

None of your objections would bother libs who think the individual exists to serve the majority - I.e. the government.

Yes , millions of people have done so ...myself included . It requires self responsibility though and many people don't like that .

I love this idea give every American adult citizen say $850 a month, salaries and wages can go above that you can include this as a reduction on checks if over $850 a month or something I'm all for it!

Many people can't afford school even if they go to a community college with student loans or government grants. I've had to personally help a few people finish school because the federal/state government didn't give them enough to survive on, let alone thrive on.

The days of equal opportunity are over in the US.

I met dozens of people throughout my tenure doing exactly that. Most sob stories are based on people who got a high school GPA of 1.2.

    Exactly.

People just cry and cry expecting someone else to fix their problems.

Our country is starting to tip....

Except that many, many college grads are still well below $100k income. Not that that is a bad pay level.. It's how much higher the execs get to go that's at issue. They're not even producers, as our Glorious Leader pointed out in clumsy fashion with his "you didn't build that" rhetoric. The people who actually work and produce things earn significantly less than those managing them. And the thing is, that Swiss legislation isn't even changing that. It's doing nothing more than setting an upper pay limit. People who scream that the execs will leave Switzerland over that are overreacting. You can bet there will be plenty of people happy to do the job at $185k or whatever.

Oh no, uh oh, how anti-capitalist, the US will need to do something to put a stop to this return to communism. Europe defends itself with our tax dollars so if the Swiss vote yes on this stupid proposal then the US is obliged to invade their pissant little country, right my fellow conservatives?

Swiss population is 8 million, lets say adults make up 6 million. 6 million times $2800 times 12 months = $201 billion per year. Swiss GDP is 362.4 billion per year. Is there a mistake in my estimate somewhere, or are the proponents of this idea completely detached from reality?

Sorry if someone has already asked the question. Any Americans here think we should do the same?
