Liberals have dumbed down the eduation system for several reasons ... to protect their jobs and their monopoly on education, to make their social engineering easier to accomplish, etc.

With grade inflation, a 3.0 GPA in 1980 is the equivalent of a 3.5 GPA today. And the SAT tests have been dumbed down several times. Everybody wins! Everyone gets a trophy!

It's got nothing to do with me. I don't believe any of that church-going superstition. I did go to school with a guy many proclaimed armageddons ago who was a member of the Church of God. He invited me up to stay with him and his family for a couple of days. It was on a Sunday so I went along with them to church services just to show my gratitude.

The week previously someone in the congregation asked why musical instruments are not allowed during their services. The pastor didn't know but he promised to have a good look through the scripters and have the answer the following Sunday - the day I was there. So I was witness when he said that he still didn't really know and the best answer he could offer was that musical instruments are not mentioned anywhere in the bible, therefore .......

At least he was honest. Maybe that gives some explanation to your question. Evolution? Evolution of thought? Evolution of knowledge?

Be more interesting to see a correlation between those who think the world is flat and that humans are causing the climate to change.

Yeah, and they believe that they'll be able to simply sit in Mommy and Daddy's house pawing on their 'smart' phones forever in their little silos of ignorance, delusion, and petty oblivion. The Russians and the Chinese watch this 'Millennial' phenomenon in the U. S. like hawks.

Given that a round earth and climate change are both based on science, there would be little to no correlation between flat earthers, and those who accept the science of climate change.

If you used elementary logic you would know that.

Maybe you could explain these elementary college-level equations in you own words.

Dumb Americans are more likely to accept socialism without asking questions.

    Why the surprise?
Many still believe that mans presence on the Earth can be attributed to a magic garden, fruit and a talking snake.

Studies show that IQ increases the more education one has. For example, if a person takes an IQ test at 18, then completes 4 or 6 years of higher education, his/her IQ will increase. That makes an argument for the fact that IQ doesn't actually test the potential for your intelligence but how developed your mind and thinking skills are. I would hazard a guess that California IQ scores have dropped relative to immigration because of culture and language: if they are taking IQ tests in English, they are not going to do as well as a native speaker.

School back in those days was mostly fact based. They didn't do much in the way of trying to teach critical thinking skills, which include observation, analysis, interpretation, reflection, evaluation, inference, explanation, problem solving, and decision making. I am not by any means suggesting that we don't have both, however.

I won’t say Republicans, but I emphatically agree that one of the big problems with American intelligence and knowledge today has to do with conservative's despising education and educators, not accepting science, and widely promulgating and disseminating disinformation in order to support conservative political and religious ideology.

I think they need to figure out what a person needs to know for their day to day life or essential basic knowledge and focus education on that, then outside of that should be elective interests or preparing for college or a career if educating for that outside of college (apprenticing, trade school etc.).

For example is knowing the world is round important to know under essential knowledge I would think basic science facts is important enough to include but do they need to know as essential knowledge what a black hole is maybe not. Since you don't deal with that you live on Earth so knowing its round with a moon in orbit of the Sun and where other planets are so knowledge of our 'solar system and its place in the galaxy' is a basic area of basic knowledge.

But just figure out what we need people to know first and educate in that and decide how long to teach that so maybe we can cover this in eight years if done right. For example I feel knowing the basics of government and civics is important so that could be taught in eighth grade in a year long period of lessons easily enough.

Now outside if that there are conventionally four more years why rehash these focus on added knowledge if they studied American History in K-8 then don't offer it in High School unless a student is going to college have them take a course in a career area or an interest they have for example introductory mechanics OR drawing respectfully.

As for IQ it might go up however if one has a base IQ of 85 how much education can they handle and its damned unlikely it will ever get to a level suitable for a basic college education lets say an IQ of 115. Hell even a High School standard diploma is likely out of reach. At some point we must accept people are different in abilities and interests and tailor education and career preparation accordingly and if some is of very low IQ then maybe it would be better to put them on disability.

OH so critical thinking is only a post modern skill of humans? That's part of the problem with education today, not enough core facts and skills being taught like your multiplication and addition tables and core civics and history facts.
