In Post #131, Esperance had alleged that "the Chinese government decided that they wanted to improve their preparation of teachers. So they set out to find the best school system in the world with an enrollment of over 100,000 students. After looking all over the world, they found out that the top system is actually located in the United States. It is the Lutheran - Missouri Synod."

I find combination therapy (ibuprofen + paracetamol) good for nerve pain.

If you need to laugh at people who aren't racists, so be it.

There is a Concordia in Portland. It seems to me that it is a second tier college. Maybe it is just the local campus. My daughter had a boyfriend who couldn't get into a state college, but he did get into Concordia.

You probably already know that I don't think much of lefty predictions. If you guys predicted that the sun would rise in the east tomorrow morning, I'd be looking westwards just on the off chance that you were still batting .1000.

You are easily controlled. I merely look forward to the revelations, and hope that Trump won't try to gag his minions.

    Hmm ... pick one ...

Let's take my congressional rep from my former place of residence, Dana Rohrabacher. I had a long list of grievances regarding his voting record. We emailed back and forth quite a bit, which means that I went directly to at least once source of the problems as I saw them. (I emailed Feinstein and Boxer, too, but less often, as they shared my views on most things.) After several exchanges with Rohrabacher, I realized that he was unmovable on several issues, so I joined a group that was working to oust him at the ballot box, and I told him so. He tried not to get testy about it, and mostly managed to remain polite, to his credit.

After helping to create, then mail many flyers to registered voters of all parties, I moved out of California before the election last year, but guess who lost California's 48th district? Not to the candidate that I briefly worked for, but to a Democrat nonetheless.

That's one example. Now it's time to work on getting rid of my current rep, who is a lot like Rorhabacher unfortunately.

I'm also old enough to have taken part in many protests against the Vietnam war, in favor of a woman's right to privacy and choice, and in favor of the Equal Rights Amendment.

    You?

I don't get involved in politics at all. I observe it from a distance for entertainment. Sorry to see you wasted so much of your time and accomplished nothing.

Why do you call it nothing? Aren't Democrats and other liberals getting elected to more than the usual number of offices? Didn't Roe v Wade become established constitutional law? Didn't my old buddy Dana lose his election? And we only need one more state to ratify the ERA. Virginia just turned their state legislature blue, and it's one of their top four items.

Crawl down into your hole is that works for you. :hiding:

You should probably try and be more political and less ideological, Natty. Life is better when the other team winning doesn't make your sky fall. And life is far more interesting when you grant yourself the freedom to walk in a variety of shoes, instead of just that one clapped out pair.

I watch politics. I don't participate in it. I don't actually don't approve of it.

You don't approve of politics? Or you don't approve of citizen participation?

I don't approve of politics. I'm fine with citizen participation but I don't engage in it personally. I view it as a waste of time and effort.

No, it started with Newt Gingrich and his "party before country" attitude in the 90s. Books have been written about it.

The reason it increased under Obama was simply because Obama is not white. When we look to those who have power over our lives, it is comforting to see people like us. Obama's election and reelection made a lot of people uncomfortable without realizing what was agitating them.
