To be honest, no one has answered Trump's question: Why don't we get more people from Norway?

We currently do not have a merit-based system. Dems want to keep it that way.

 

Americans receive more medical care than just about any other group of people on Earth. That is part of why it's so expensive.

Aside from being sponsored by a family member, most of our immigration is merit based. Trump wants to restrict even merit based immigration. Forget the Dems. Any conservative economist will tell you that's a bad idea.

All Scandinavians have a higher standard of living than the USA so there is no good reason for any of them to emigrate from Scandinavia to go anywhere else.

There are also links to a few reports that are concerned about fraud. The requirements seem low, so I guess it depends on your definition of merit based.

 

Since none of us were at the meeting none us know what the context was. But, my guess is he just picked a 1st world country at random. If he knows about their standard of living than even better since they were just mentioned in another post as being more productive than the average American.

 

There actually are a fair number of Norwegians who are coming to America, typically the warmer parts. But they usually don't stay more than 2 or 3 years when they realize the job opportunities available to them are not as good as in their country.

The difference in living standards isn't that huge though. In case you were wondering, the wage difference isn't enough to overcome the climate and language barrier, not for people already living in English speaking countries at least.

Although Norway is actually drawing some people from Sweden who go there to work temporarily because the wages are higher.​
