    I hope you're wrong.

Sad to hear people are behaving as though they want it to be true, though.

They can troll as much as they want.
If you look at the case of the Baptist church in Frankfurt, next to everybody who was in that room got infected, or the Restaurant in Leer, again next to everybody got infected. In both cases everybody ignored the rules and regulations Nearly 200 cases and still counting. Pretty much half of the new cases in Germany, exactly 2 weeks after the events.
You do not have to be a rocket scientist to predict or understand what will hit the US in 1 to 2 weeks after Memorial Weekend.
Just the mild opening in CO has shown a jump in my county. With the relaxing of the rules, people went back to their normal lives and behave according like that, like in February..
Its not the second wave, its still the first and the uncontrolled openings, against the guidelines, will hammer the US.
    Trust me on that one.
I am not a procrastinator, I have been ahead of that virus since early March, in my business and in my private live, way ahead.
CDC standards, I had them in my business since the first week of March, when I was watching the catastrophe in Northern Italy develop.

That sucker will now explode in the US.

How many more times does it need to be explained as to how the virus spreads?

The growth does not have to be exponential.

Growth is new cases which means that the virus is still out there infecting people.

Only when there are NO new cases can we be sure that the virus is no longer active.

    Good morning, PFers,

I hope you had a good, thoughtful Memorial Day weekend and an introspective Memorial Day holiday yesterday.

I have a very busy work-day today and also, my gut tells me that there may be a number of statistical revisions from 2020-05-025 yet to come today, so instead of making the two large analyses for 2020-05-025 early in the day, I am going to wait and do them later.

Instead, for in the meantime, I have simply input the current data for four entities in my online excel table (see: my signature file) and will post them here with a couple of short notes.

    WORLDWIDE:

2020-05-025 temp stats EOD Worldwide - excel table.png

The COVID-19 numbers have jumped around in a number of nations across the earth over the last two days. I wrote in THIS POSTING yesterday that yesterday, 2020-05-025, the nation of Spain revised its total number of cases ever so slightly downward but its total deaths heavily downward, by more than 1,900. That's a BIG revision, to say the least. The reasons for this are in the screenshot at the posting above.

Spain, like Italy, has at least one region within the borders of the land that is autonomous and yet, logically, still included within their national COVID-19 statistics. Actually, in the USA, the Navajo Nation is a similar example of such. So, since the revisions in deaths goes back bit-by-bit over a large number of days and that would be a total pain in the ass for WorldOMeter to correct over so many days, they just lopped this number off of the total dead worldwide for 2020-05-025, which is why you see such a low death number at my excel table. However, at the WORLDOMETER website, for exactly the same number of total deaths, you will see a far higher +number for the daily deaths, which they have input manually.

    USA:

2020-05-025 temp stats EOD USA - excel table.png

If the daily death numbers for the USA for Memorial Day are correct, and I have no reason to believe that they are not, then they are very meaningful in that they are almost half of the value of the daily deaths from the Monday before and also represent two days in a row with a death toll under +1,000! Now, whether or not this has to do with Memorial Day being a holiday and a number of hospital systems will be reporting yesterday's numbers today remains to be seen, but what this means, if it holds, is that we ended Memorial Day with 99,805 deaths, 195 short of the 100,000 death toll. People who have been reading my USA reports know that since 2020-04-028, I have been extrapolating that by the end of day on May 31st, 2020, we will be over 103,000 deaths in the USA - and that extrapolation, even after two days of incredibly positive numbers, is still, unfortunately, right on track to happen, even with only +500 deaths per day, which is unlikely to happen at such a comparatively low rate every day of this week, esp. Tuesday / Wednesday / Thursday.

There may be another two reasons for why the death toll is going down steeply, both of which I would far prefer: that the mitigation has worked better than we thought and that certain therapeutics, including Hydroxychloroquine (also in cocktail form and prescribed for patients without conflicting co-morbidities) and Remdesivir, have started to have a really positive effect. I mean, the fact that NY went well under +100 deaths and that for the first time in a very long time, no state in the USA reported +100 deaths, is cause for real joy.

Or it can be that the exceedingly good numbers from yesterday is a combination of all three of these things: some late hospital reporting because of the extended holiday weekend, the more positive effects of some therapeutics, now that doctors and nurses have had more than two months of trial and error to see what works best in which specific cases, AND more than 9 weeks of some form of mitigation for most states..... right now, I don't care which is the main cause or who gets the praise, I'm just happy as a lark that far less people are dying, and so should you.

    BRAZIL:

2020-05-025 temp stats EOD Brazil- excel table.png

In short, Brazil is the next USA, only with a far worse health care system, far less testing, far larger slums where no-one really cares about you, and a terrible, autocratic leader who still thinks this is nothing more than the flu. For the second day in a row, Brazil's death toll topped the USA's death toll, making it currently the no. 1 nation in the world for daily C19 deaths.

Also, Brazil, as of 2020-05-025, Brazil has more total C19 cases than the state of NY, which until that date, had a higher number of cases than any other nation in the world (except of course, the USA, of which is it a part).

I am reading from multiple medical sources of repute, sources that also span the entire bandwidth of the political spectrum, that Brazil is still weeks away from its peak, so, things are likely to get far worse there before they get better. The bad part about this is that until last month, the equatorial nations were seemingly quiet when it comes to COVID-19 but now, a number of them are experiencing a huge uptick in cases. Not all of, but large parts of Brazil, are equatorial.

    RUSSIA:

2020-05-025 temp stats EOD Россия- excel table.png

Russia, which was until two days ago the number two nation in C19 cases, is now the number 3, behind the USA and Brazil. If you look to the extreme right of the screenshot, you can see two weekly averages calculated. The one at the bottom is from 2020-05-011 through 2020-05-017 and the one above, the more recent average, is from 2020-05-018 through 2020-05-024. You can see that the average daily cases has gone down by more than 1,300, but the average number of daily deaths has shot up by +28, from 102 to 130. You can also see that in the two days after the last average (2020-05-025 and today already, 2020-05-026), Russia has reported just a little more than 8,900 cases per day, but look at the death toll from today: +174. That's the steepest death toll from Russia to-date, a nation that has been deliberately depressing the death numbers by inventing reasons to make a difference between died "of/from" C19 and died "with" C19. So, we can assume that the real number of C19 deaths in this so-called Republic that is actually under authoritarian rule that is hardly better than Communism was, is decidedly higher, perhaps by a factor of 10. Wait and see.

So, that's just a small insight into yesterday. I need to get to work now, my day goes from 11 am until about 11 pm, with short breaks here and there, so unless an appointment falls into the sand, big analyses will come out very late today. Sorry, that's the way the cookie crumbles.

It will take longer than one week for this kind of stuff to show: up to 14 days being asymptomatic, then suddenly feeling sick, then going to the hospital, then getting tested, ending positive and in some cases, dying 1, 2 or 3 weeks later in the hospital. So, the earliest where we would see an effect from the last 3 days, numerically speaking will be in 3 weeks from last weekend, after the anniversary of D-Day. Gotta work now...

HERE the entire posting for EOD the day before, Sunday, 2020-05-024 (EOD GMT +0 - Greenwich = 20:00 EDT). Also here in a nutshell:
During the run of the day on 2020-05-025, there were some intermittent analyses:
    USA EOD report 2020-05-024, posted 2020-05-025, 10:54, #9451.
    USA early update 001, 2020-05-025, 17:09 GMT +2, #9460.
Downward correction to Spain‘s figures, slight worldwide skew, 2020-05-025, 21:58, #9469.
Overview of worldwide, USA, Brazil and Russia figures from 2020-05-025, posted 2020-05-026, 10:50, #9479.

COVID-19 worldwide statistics EOD Report for Monday, 2020-05-025 (GMT +0 - Greenwich = 20:00 EDT):

    *****5,584,267*****
    +89,812 cases today over yesterday.
There are 109 nations with at least 100 COVID-19 cases.

There are now 347,613 COVID-19 deaths worldwide.
806 Brazilians & 505 Americans died from COVID-19 on this day.
This is the second day in a long time where a country other than the USA lead in daily deaths.

You can find confirmation of the statistics these reports at the WAYBACK MACHINE. Search for one day later than you want, then use the "yesterday" function at the top their large excel table.

    2020-05-025 COVID-19 EOD Worldwide 001- excel table.png

No deep analysis today. Please read the correction link about Spain above. It makes any true comparisons today totally worthless. RESET.

The countries with the most new cases:
    2020-05-025 COVID-19 EOD Worldwde 003 - new cases 001.png

Currently, and unsurprisingly, the USA leads with the most new cases and has been doing so for a long time, but now, just barely over Brazil, which is right behind the USA and growing in cases more and more every week. Russia, with half the new cases that Brazil reported, is rank 3, followed by India, Chile and Peru.

    56
countries had +100 or more new cases, closing in on 1/3 of all nations in the world. The day before, it was 56. Of those 56, 17 countries had +1000 or more new cases; the day before, it was 16.

The countries with the most new daily deaths:
    2020-05-025 COVID-19 EOD Worldwide 005 - new deaths 001.png

For the second time in quite a while, the USA (+505) did NOT lead in deaths on 2020-05-025; rather, Brasil had the most daily deaths to mourn (+806).

7 nations reported over +100 daily deaths (it was 9 the day before). 5 of those 7 countries are from the Americas.

    Total deaths per country, descending:
    2020-05-025 COVID-19 EOD Worldwide 004 - total deaths 001.png

There are TWENTY-SIX nations with over +1,000 COVID-19 deaths to date, with Poland having crossed over the 1,000 line.

There are now 69 nations with 100 total deaths or more, with Croatia having crossed over the 100 line. That is 1/3 of all nations on the Earth.

New: Total Tests administered per country, descending:
    2020-05-025 COVID-19 EOD Worldwide 006 - total tests 001.png

12 nations have administered more than 1 million tests apiece. The USA has now performed 15.2 million tests, Russia has performed 8.9 million tests. Brazil, which is now rank 2 among all nations in terms of COVID-19 infections, it still stick (for days now) at only 735,000 tests administered. Just imagine how many more positives Brazil would now be showing were it to test on the scale of the USA or Russia....

And now, on to the more expansive listing:

Total cases per country, descending (980 cases or above):
    2020-05-025 COVID-19 EOD Worldwide 002 - total cases 001.png
    2020-05-025 COVID-19 EOD Worldwide 002 - total cases 002.png
    2020-05-025 COVID-19 EOD Worldwide 002 - total cases 003.png
    2020-05-025 COVID-19 EOD Worldwide 002 - total cases 004.png
    2020-05-025 COVID-19 EOD Worldwide 002 - total cases 005.png

There are 109 nations in the "thousand club, with Albania and Equatorial Guinea having crossed over the 1,000 line on 2020-05-025.

Of those 109, 49 are in the "10,000 club.

Further, 12 of those 49 are at 100,000 or more.

The point I am making is: this is not all about the USA. Nations all over the world are being massively afflicted with the COVID-19 virus and some are in far worse shape to even begin to combat the pandemic.

Facit: on 2020-05-025 world came over the 5.5 million mark and finished the day somewhat under the 5.6 million mark.

Now at +99,805 deaths, the USA is marching toward hitting the 100,000 COVID-19 death-mark and is also on course to go over 106,000 by the end of May, 2020. For a good while in this report, I wrote that the USA could maybe even go as high as 130,000 by the end of May, 2020. Fortunately, this is not going to happen. What has happened instead has been the sudden extreme rise in C19 cases and daily deaths in Brazil, which may or may not overtake the USA in June as the world's largest hotspot. Or we may have two huge hotspots plateau'ing through the summer of 2020. Or maybe 2 or 3 more hotspots may even come along. Who knows for sure.

The world-wide curve has most definitely flattened, which was the primary goal of mitigation, so that emergency rooms and ICU units across the world would not all be overloaded at once. The very low growth rate in total cases is a good sign. The question now is: how long will the plateau last? Let's see what the planned testing of the entire cities of Wuhan (China) and Los Angeles (USA) bring.

HERE the COVID-19 numbers for the day before, Sunday, 2020-05-024 in the USA (EOD = GMT +0).

And now the COVID-19 numbers for Monday, 2020-05-025 in the USA (EOD = GMT +0):

COVID-19 USA statistics EOD Report for Monday, 2020-05-025 (GMT +0 - Greenwich = 20:00 EDT),
    Memorial Day 2020:

    *1,706,226*
+19,790 cases today over the day before.
3/5 of all US states have at least 10,000 confirmed C19 cases!

99,805 total COVID-19 deaths in the USA, -195 shy of the 100,000-mark.
505 Americans out of the total above died from COVID-19 on this day.
For the second day in a long time, another nation had more daily deaths than the USA: Brazil.
464,670 people have recovered, 1,141,751 are, however, still sick.

You can find confirmation of the statistics these reports at the WAYBACK MACHINE. Search for one day later than you want, then use the "yesterday" function at the top their large excel table.

    2020-05-025 COVID-19 EOD USA 001- excel table.png

I screenshotted the table down to 2020-04-028 because of the FINAL extrapolation at the bottom of this analysis.

The 7-day new cases average from last week (from 2020-05-018 through 2020-05-024) was 22,682 cases per day, slightly under the average from the week before.

The 7-day new deaths average from last week (from 2020-05-018 through 2020-05-024) was 1,189 deaths per day, definitely below the average from the week before.

COVID-19 in the US Territories (unsorted):

    2020-05-025 COVID-19 EOD USA 002 - total cases 003 - territories.png

    45
out of 50 states have over 1,000 confirmed COVID-19 cases. VT (962) is next up, but the new cases in the 5 smallest states are moving very slowly, an interesting phenomenon to watch, since all 5 are geographically far-flung states either at the edge of the US border to Canada or not even attached to the continental USA. That being said, UT just recorded +25 cases.

30 of those 45 plus Veterans affairs (13,302) now have more than 10,000 cases, with SC having crossed over the 10,000 line on 2020-05-024, so actually, it's 31, and Veterans Affairs is really rank 28.

The state of NY (372,494) alone had more COVID-19 cases than any other nation in the world except the USA itself, of which NY is of course a part, until 2020-05-025. However, Brazil (376,669) surpassed NY's numbers on this day.

COVID-19 in the USA, by state, new daily cases, descending:

    2020-05-025 COVID-19 EOD USA 003 - new cases 002.png

    5
states reported over +1,000 new cases on 2020-05-025. The day before, it was 4 states.

32 states +DC reported more than +100 new cases; the day before, it was 35.

5 states reported no new cases: RI, KY, ID, HI, MT.

COVID-19 in the USA, total tests administered, using the worldwide rankings:

For seeing the number of tests over a much longer time-frame, go to the WAYBACK MACHINE link at the top of the report.

Before 2020-05-022, something was not functioning right with administered test numbers. For the second time (on 2020-05-021), less total US tests were recorded as administered as the day before. That should not be possible. Until I can get some solid answers about this, I won't be reporting total comparisons, because I don't want to be publishing false information.

On 2020-05-020, the website listed 14,117,870 tests as administered.
    For 2020-05-021, it said 13,439,114.
    That's -678,576 cases. The number should be a +, not a -.

    So, I will research...

However, for 2020-05-022, the USA has now administered 13.9 million tests to date and that for 2020-05-023, it was 14.4 million, a jump of roughly 500,000 cases. On 2020-05-024, it was 14.7 million, a jump of roughly 300,000 cases. And on 2020-05-025, it was 15.2 million. Let's see if the numbers continue to march forward as they should...

COVID-19 in the USA, by state, new daily deaths, descending:

    2020-05-025 COVID-19 EOD USA 005 - new deaths 001.png
    2020-05-025 COVID-19 EOD USA 005 - new deaths 002.png

I think this is the most important category when looking to see where other hotspots are emerging and since deaths lag behind new cases, the two rankings are often not the same.

At +505 daily deaths (and behind Brazil in the daily deaths worldwide for the second day in a row), the USA saw the smallest daily death total since Monday, 2020-03-30 (+506 deaths on that day). I am grateful that we came in under +700 deaths, a sure sign that the wave is abating, at least for now. And I will rejoice on the day when I can report ZERO new daily C19 deaths in the USA.

0 states reported more than 100 daily deaths. The day before, it was 1.

37 of 50 states reported at least one death. The day before, it was 38.

COVID-19 in the USA, by state, total deaths, descending:
    2020-05-025 COVID-19 EOD USA 004 - total deaths 001.png
    2020-05-025 COVID-19 EOD USA 004 - total deaths 002.png

39 states have more than 100 total deaths. That's 4/5 of the nation in terms of numbers of US states. In terms of population, it's far more than that. Currently at 98 deaths, UT will be next to cross over into that gruesome statistic.

Of those 38, 18 states in the Union have a total of more than 1,000 COVID-19 deaths. In about 2 weeks, MN, NC and AZ are likely to join that unlucky club.

With 29,310 total deaths at current, the state of NY has more deaths to mourn than every other COUNTRY on the Earth save the USA itself, UK and Italy. However, at the rate that Brazil is suddenly moving in the rankings, soon Brazil will have many, many more deaths to mourn than NY state.

    EXTRAPOLATION:

On 2020-04-028, 28 days ago now including that day, over two postings, I extrapolated that if we "only" had +1,400 US deaths per day until the end of May, 2020, then we would reach over 103,000 dead Americans at that time, before the summer even begins. In the days since, on 18 of those 28 days, we came in over that "only". Here again the excel-table for this report; it goes back to that date:

    2020-05-025 COVID-19 EOD USA 001- excel table.png

    In a nutshell:

    Time frame = 28 days from 2020-04-028 through 2020-05-025.

    1,400 * 28 = 39,200 extrapolated deaths.
    Actual deaths = 43,008
Number of actual deaths over the extrapolation = 43,008-37,800 = 3,808 more deaths than originally extrapolated
3,808 = the equivalent of 2 days (at an extrapolated 1,400 per day) +1,008 in reserve =1,400-1,008= 392.

This means that were ZERO COVID-19 deaths to be reported in the USA for the next TWO days in a row including today (2020-05-026 through 027 - Tuesday through Wednesday) and then, "only" +392 deaths were to be reported on 2020-05-028 (Thursday), we would still be exactly on track to go well over 103,000 deaths in the USA at EOD on May 31st, which is 5 days after today, 6 days including today. Perversely enough, this is actually an improvement over the last many extrapolations, since we once again had a day (thank goodness) with well under 1,400 daily deaths but regardless, the simple math is still horrifyingly unassailable.

On Monday, 2020-05-025, we ended the day with 99,805 US deaths from COVID-19, putting us -195 from the 100,000 line and right now, and at the writing of this report on 2020-05-026, we are now at 100,021, so there is no reason to continue this extrapolation anymore. What has been forecast is happening at this very moment, 2 days later than I originally thought, but nonetheless, it is so.

Now, all that as raw numbers may not really be getting into peoples' heads quite yet, so here is the listing of US-American cities with a projected 2020 population of between 100,000-106,500:

Between Memorial Day and the end of the month of May, 2020, it will be as if one of those US-American cities was simply and for all eternity wiped-off the face of the world. Then maybe, just maybe for the naysayers and C19-deadenders out there, this **** will finally be real.

Now, we could have a legitimate discussion about the psychology of going from a 5-digit figure to a 6-digit figure and then from a 6-digit figure to a 7-digit figure because really, what is the big difference between, say, 99,800 and 100,200? There's actually very little difference, but suddenly seeing a 6-digit figure makes this all appear to be suddenly larger and more menacing when in reality, it was large and menacing the entire time.

8 minutes ago, WORLDOMETER reported that the USA went over the 100,000 mark in total deaths from COVID-19:

    2020-05-025 COVID-19 the USA goes over 100,000 deaths.png

    (Edited)

This happened as I was finishing the USA report for 2020-05-025.

    Somber moment, indeed.

The line I bolded in red has a typo in it, it should read:

Number of actual deaths over the extrapolation = 43,008-39,200 = 3,808 more deaths than originally extrapolated.

The result of the math was correct, I just forgot to change the number than should be subtracted. It's hard to do this stuff perfectly while underway.

Nonetheless, what you're doing is a great service not only now but as you said previously: For posterity so we know what was the worst of the outbreak, and what will hopefully soon to be the best of the awful news= The day that eventually hopefully comes where there's not a single covid case anywhere.

It's a shame that you guys have been so right about all this. 100,000 and climbing. I have to wonder how things will end up after the re-openings. I also wonder how long before the numbers drop. Hopefully, we can get an effective anti-virus soon.

Oh, and Statistikhengst, you're not fooling me. The only reason you've been so correct about all this is because you're an extra-terrestrial alien holding earthlings hostage to this reality-altering "virus" so you can take over the planet. ;)

    Stay healthy.

I'll get around to the worldwide and USA analyses later (back to working almost full-time now) but some important details:

Yesterday, the number of deaths in both Brazil and the USA rose again and for the third day in a row, Brazil led all other nations in number of daily deaths: +1,027. Meanwhile, our homeland, the USA, reported +774 deaths. The good news is that this is the third day in a row with deaths in the USA under the +1,000 line. The bad news is that the daily total is rising again.

Yesterday, our neighbor to the north, Canada, reported +94 deaths, but in the last days, it has often been well over +100. Let's see what Canada reports today.

The number of deaths in Mexico is up very sharply: on 2020-05-026 (yesterday), Mexico reported +239 daily deaths. Today, 2020-05-027, thus far (and I assume that the stat will hold through the entire day, Mexico tends to report once a day), the daily death toll for our southern neighbor is +501. That is an enormous jump in deaths.

Yesterday (2020-05-026), Peru posted +159 deaths. Let's see what Peru reports today, I suspect that the number will be higher.

So, yesterday, out of the top 5 nations from the Americas, just slightly less than +2,300 daily deaths came out of those countries, about 57% of the worldwide deaths.

The hotspots really are in the Americas.

HERE the entire posting for EOD the day before.

During the run of the day on 2020-05-026, there were some intermittent analyses:
Overview of worldwide, USA, Brazil and Russia figures from 2020-05-025, posted 2020-05-026, 10:50, #9479.
    USA EOD report 2020-05-025, posted 2020-05-026, 18:40, #9483.
    The USA goes over 100,000 deaths, posted 2020-05-026, 18:41 GMT +2, #9484.

COVID-19 worldwide statistics EOD Report for Tuesday, 2020-05-026 (GMT +0 - Greenwich = 20:00 EDT):

    *****5,678,146*****
    +93,879 cases today over yesterday.
There are 110 nations with at least 100 COVID-19 cases.

There are now 351,654 COVID-19 deaths worldwide.
The USA went over a total of 100,000 COVID-19 deaths on this day.

1,027 Brazilians & 774 Americans died from COVID-19 on this day.
You can find confirmation of the statistics these reports by either going directly to the WORLDOMETER website today or to the WAYBACK MACHINE after today. There, search for one day later than you want, then use the "yesterday" function at the top their large excel table.

    2020-05-026 COVID-19 EOD Worldwide 000.png STAT'S EXCEL-TABLE:

As of now, this report is going to be much more concise, much leaner. You all know how to read the excel table for yourselves and can see the changes from day to day, also percentually. This table goes from bottom to top, in chronological order.

Also, as of now, I will only provide one set of screenshots from WORLDOMETER, for the total number of COVID-19 cases, in descending order. In order to confirm my quick analysis, use the links provided above the excel table and sort the table on your own. This way, you have more control over what you want to see and when you want to see it.

Total cases per country, descending (all countries):
    2020-05-026 COVID-19 EOD Worldwide 001.png
    2020-05-026 COVID-19 EOD Worldwide 002.png
    2020-05-026 COVID-19 EOD Worldwide 003.png
    2020-05-026 COVID-19 EOD Worldwide 004.png

    2020-05-026 COVID-19 EOD Worldwide 008.png
    2020-05-026 COVID-19 EOD Worldwide 009.png

Today is the only day where I am screenshotting all of the countries. As of tomorrow, only the countries close to +1,000 cases and above will be screenshotted.

Of total cases per country, there are now 110 nations in the "thousand club, with Haiti having crossed over the 1,000 line on 2020-05-026. Of those 110, 49 are in the "10,000 club. Further, 12 of those 49 are at 100,000 or more.

In terms of the countries with the most new cases, currently, and unsurprisingly, the USA leads with the most new cases and has been doing so for a long time, but now, just barely over Brazil, which is right behind the USA and growing in cases more and more every week. Russia, with half the new cases that Brazil reported, is rank 3, followed by India, Peru and Chile.

62 countries had +100 or more new cases, closing in on 1/3 of all nations in the world. The day before, it was 56. Of those 62, 14 countries had +1000 or more new cases; the day before, it was 17.

In terms of total deaths per country, descending, there are
SIXTY-NINE nations with 100 total deaths or more. That is 1/3 of all nations on the Earth. Of those 69,TWENTY-SIX nations have over +1,000 COVID-19 deaths to date.

In terms of the countries with the most daily deaths, for the third time in quite a while, the USA (+774) did NOT lead in deaths on 2020-05-026; rather, Brasil had the most daily deaths to mourn (+1,027).

8 nations reported over +100 daily deaths (it was 8 the day before). 4 of those 8 countries are from the Americas.

In terms of Total Tests administered per country,12 nations have administered more than 1 million tests apiece. The USA has now performed 15.5 million tests, Russia has performed 9.2 million tests. Brazil, which is now rank 2 among all nations in terms of COVID-19 infections, has performed only 872,000 tests. Just imagine how many more positives Brazil would now be showing were it to test on the scale of the USA or Russia....

    Facit:
on 2020-05-026 world came over the 5.6 million mark and finished the day somewhat under the 5.7 million mark. We just went over the 5 million mark 8 days ago....

Now at +100,572 deaths, the USA has reached a gruesome milestone in our world's history, one that no country should ever reach. John Hopkins University has not yet calculated this number, but surely by the middle of the day on 2020-05-027, it will have done so.

The world-wide curve has most definitely flattened, which was the primary goal of mitigation. The very low growth rate in total cases is a good sign. The question now is: how long will the plateau last? Let's see what the planned testing of the entire cities of Wuhan (China) and Los Angeles (USA) bring.

HERE the COVID-19 numbers for the day before.

And now the COVID-19 numbers for Tuesday, 2020-05-026 in the USA (EOD = GMT +0):

COVID-19 USA statistics EOD Report for Tuesday, 2020-05-026 in the USA (EOD = GMT +0):

    *1,725,275*
+19,049 cases today over the day before.
100,572 total COVID-19 deaths in the USA.

774 Americans out of the total above died from COVID-19 on this day.
For the third day in a long time, another nation had more daily deaths than the USA: Brazil.
479,669 people have recovered, 1,144,734 are, however, still sick.

You can find confirmation of the statistics these reports by either going directly to the WORLDOMETER website today or to the WAYBACK MACHINE after today. There, search for one day later than you want, then use the "yesterday" function at the top their large excel table.

    2020-05-026 COVID-19 EOD USA 000.png

Note: as of now, in order to make this analysis more concise, I will only provide one set of screenshots from WORLDOMETER, for the total number of COVID-19 cases, in descending order. In order to confirm my quick analysis, use the links provided above the excel table and sort the table on your own. This way, you have more control over what you want to see and when you want to see it.

COVID-19 in the USA, by state, total cases, descending:
    2020-05-026 COVID-19 EOD USA 001.png
    2020-05-026 COVID-19 EOD USA 002.png
    2020-05-026 COVID-19 EOD USA 003.png

45 out of 50 states have over 1,000 confirmed COVID-19 cases. VT (967) is next up. 30 of those 45 plus Veterans affairs (13,489) now have more than 10,000 cases, so actually, it's 31, and Veterans Affairs is really rank 28.

The state of NY (373,622) alone had more COVID-19 cases than any other nation in the world except the USA itself, of which NY is of course a part, until 2020-05-025. However, Brazil (392,360) surpassed NY's numbers on that day.

    new daily cases:

5 states reported over +1,000 new cases on 2020-05-025. The day before, it was 4 states.

35 states +DC reported more than +100 new cases; the day before, it was 35.

3 states reported no new cases: ND, HI, MT.
    new daily deaths:

I think this is the most important category when looking to see where other hotspots are emerging and since deaths lag behind new cases, the two rankings are often not the same.

At +774 daily deaths (and behind Brazil in the daily deaths worldwide for the second day in a row), the USA saw the third day in a row with a daily death total under the 1,000 mark.

1 state (NY) reported more than 100 daily deaths. The day before, it was 0.

42 of 50 states reported at least one death. The day before, it was 37.

    total deaths:
40 states have more than 100 total deaths, with UT having crossed over the 100 line. That's 4/5 of the nation in terms of numbers of US states. In terms of population, it's far more than that.

Of those 40, 18 states in the Union have a total of more than 1,000 COVID-19 deaths. In the next days, MN, NC and AZ are likely to join that unlucky club.

With 29,451 total deaths at current, the state of NY has more deaths to mourn than every other COUNTRY on the Earth save the USA itself, UK and Italy. However, at the rate that Brazil is suddenly moving in the rankings, soon Brazil will have many, many more deaths to mourn than NY state.

On 2020-04-028, 29 days ago now including that day, over two postings, I extrapolated that if we "only" had +1,400 US deaths per day until the end of May, 2020, then we would reach over 103,000 dead Americans at that time, before the summer even begins. In the days since, on 18 of those 28 days, we came in over that "only". Now that the USA crossed over the horrifying 100,000 line on 2020-05-026, five days before the end of the month, there is no reason to continue the extrapolation. But if you go over past analyses of the USA, you may find the information to be interesting.

On Monday, 2020-05-025, we ended the day with 100,572 US deaths from COVID-19, putting us over the 100,000 line. Now, all that as raw numbers may not really be getting into peoples' heads quite yet, so here is the listing of US-American cities with a projected 2020 population of between 100,000-106,500:

As of 2020-05-026, this means that we lost the equivalent of ALL of Chinatown, never to get it back again. Think about that.

    NEW EXTRAPOLATION:

Let's assume that as of 2020-06-001, we are at 103,000 dead in the USA. Sure looks like that is going to easily happen, just as the extrapolation predicted.

OK, what happens if, on the average, instead of 1,400 dead per day, let's take 1/2 of that, "just" 700 dead per day every day from the beginning of June, 2020, until the end of this year.

This is simple math: from June 1, 2020 through December 31, 2020, there are 214 days (7 months at 30 days plus four months with one extra day, the 31st: July, August, October, December). 214 * 700 = 149,800 + 103,000 = 252,800 US-American deaths by the end of 2020 if the average daily deaths is just one-half of what I extrapolated from April 28-May 31, 2020.

Our hope is that we come in far, far, far below 700 deaths per day, but as you can already see, on this day, 2020-05-026, we were at +774 deaths and the peak for the weeks has probably not yet been reached. So, halving the former extrapolation is probably pretty reasonable, at least for now. I am not going to be following this extrapolation every day, but rather, will refer back to it at the end of each month.

Mitigate. Don't be fooled and don't be a fool: wear a mask. Wash your hands. Avoid large crowds. Get lots of good sunlight in open spaces. Respect the space of others. Stay healthy. We DON'T want this extrapolation to happen.

The doubling rate of Brazil is impressive:

    2020-05-027 COVID-19 Brasil doubling rate.png

Fourteen days ago, including today, Brazil went over the 200,000 mark in C19 cases.
Today, when all the numbers are in, Brazil, which is currently approaching 395,000, will easily sail over the 400,000 mark.

As impressive as that is, Brazil's doubling at this juncture about twice as slow as the doubling from 200,000 to 400,000 was in the USA from the 1st to the 8th of April, 2020:

2020-05-027 COVID-19 Brasil doubling rate compared to the USA from the beginning of April.png

What happened in the USA in between 7 and 8 days time will happen in Brazil in 14 days time.

So, Brazil really has a problem, but it is still not on the level that the USA had when it sailed over the 100,000 C19 case mark.

This is exactly why I like to preserve this stuff, to be able to look back and see what really WAS at that time.

Unfortunately, one similarity they have with the US is a largely incompetent leader who continually downplayed and dismissed the threat of the virus.

I can truly not believe people are actually debating whether wearing a mask in the middle of a pandemic is good, or not.

I mean, there is stupid, and there is this....

I've been watching the daily deaths from my state (Mississippi) compared to Georgia. Today, for instance, Mississippi has 18 compared to 12 for Georgia. This pattern of Mississippi having more deaths than Georgia seems to have been holding for the last week or more.

Mississippi is very similar to Georgia in quite a few ways. Similar population, demographics, rural vs urban ( except Mississippi doesn't have a huge city to compare with Atlanta) and similar climate (both in the Southeast).

Now what's odd is that, at the peak of the outbreak, Georgia was posting double and more the number of deaths than Mississippi. Georgia opened up ahead of Mississippi. Yet, since the opening, Georgia's # of deaths has been below Mississippi.

    I suppose it could happen.

The reprieve from being under the +1,000 daily death line in the USA is over. At current, +1,246 Americans have died today from COVID-19. There are still about 3 hours left in the day at WORLDOMETER and 7 hours left in the day on the East Coast of the USA....

And the current death toll in my homeland stands at 101,818.

I would just like to remind that with a number like +501, Mexico had a truly horrible daily death toll today from C19.

The virus has obviously reached Mexico as with the rest of the Americas.

CNN has just announced that the death toll has gone over 100,000 in the USA. So, there is a more than 24 hour lag between the data that WORLDOMETER provides and the final confirmation at John Hopkins in Maryland. I suspected there would be a lag between the two and indicated such a couple of times right here on this thread in the last days.

So, now that the first 100,000 of what is sure to be many, many more Americans have died from COVID-19, in honor of their memory, the President of the United States of America (who finds it more important to go golf or attack a morning show host on twitter and accuse said host of murder) is going to sign a presidential order tomorrow about "social media". Trump is hopping mad that Twitter, which he thinks is his personal playground, has flagged a number of his worst lies with a link that provides people with information that debunks his lies. And this breaking of the orthodoxy is just too much for Trump; his fascist vein is about to pop out of his fat-laden body. Boo, hoo.

Today, he could have earned respect from the American people and also shown some empathy by recognizing that 100,000 US-American lives have been taken by C19. But no, a troller's gotta troll, nöööö.

So, for the families of those 100,000+ Americans who are no longer with us, at least you know what Trump's priorities are. He doesn't give a flying **** about you or your loss.

I have worked mightily to keep this thread non-partisan, but ******nit, anyone who accepts this kind of **** from a president on a day like today, of all days, needs to get his head examined. Enough of this crap, already.

Folks, this is not right. This is not America.

Years from now, we will look back on this and we will be ashamed of so many things that Trump said and did.

    It's really, really sad.
