Tracking the COVID-19-Virus in Germany, the USA, Italy and other hot spots in the world

Aaaaand the leapfrogging continues apace in the C19 total case rankings:

Yesterday, Jordan jumped over Serbia and Iraq slid past Portugal.

France, which surpassed the UK last Tuesday, will likely overtake Russia tomorrow or at the latest, Monday, and move to rank 4 among the nations.

Today, Poland has already moved ahead of Mexico (both report very early in the day) and is on track to overtake Argentina in 6 days, on next Thursday.

Hungary, which has already leapfrogged over 5 nations since I began tracking it, is on course to outpace Pakistan in 4.7 days, probably by next Wednesday.

Peru, good old snail's-pace Peru, is no longer a snail and is now on track to overtake South Africa in the rankings in 4.1 days, on Wednesday at the latest.

We are seeing an especially substantial rise in +cases in Brazil, India, France, Turkey, Germany, Poland, Ukraine, Romania and Hungary. Five of those 9 listed nations are Eastern European/Western Asian nations, so we are most definitely seeing a geographical phenomenon happening.

Before I move on to the weekend rubrik table and screenshot of part of the Worldwide figures, here is why Austria is very likely a large, unintentional clerical error in terms of total C19 tests performed, an error that I suspect will be cleaned up in the next days:



Austria just jumped from 6.6 million to 22.5 million cases overnight. That is a massive jump for such a small nation and is also very unlikely. I've seen this happen in the total test numbers before and WorldOMeter retracted the figure shortly thereafter. Wait and see... I also marked this rubrik for Austria on the screenshot below.

The end-of-month analyses are pretty intensive and take time to do well. Here the schedule:

-these four postings are the screenshots of the Worldwide figures and the top 41 nations, 21 Of them now over 1,000,000 C19 cases. At this moment, the Worldwide and USA figures are preliminary.

-in about 10 hours, I will publish the final USA figures in the form of a very large analysis, likely spread over 2 postings.

-Tomorrow, on 2021-04-002, I will then publish the end-analysis for the Worldwide figures for 2020-03-031. WorldOMeter has a "2 days ago" function at its main table, which allows us to wait one more day to see the final numbers. The advantage to this is that nations that may be adjusting their total figures will have one more day to do so. Like the USA analysis, the worldwide analysis will be very large and will likely be spread out over 2 postings. With the USA and Worldwide analyses I will be adding a link to a screenshot overflow thread at my blog. This will be explained in both analyses.

For a while, I used these ➚ ➘ ➙ arrows within monthly calculations to mean that the current +calculation in cases / deaths is either more, less or relatively equal to the value from the month before. I have found it to be a waste of time and so the arrows are gone. The table I will provide with the worldwide analysis shows this stuff as well.

STAT'S EXCEL-TABLE:​

In the third month of 2021, we saw a small reduction in the 7-day rolling average +cases and a measurable reduction in the 7-day rolling average in +deaths over the month before. In this month, the USA also exceeded 100,000,000 vaccinations having gone into peoples' arms, with the declared goal from the Biden administration to reach 200,000,000 injected doses as of the 100th day of the new administration. Also planned is that every single US-American adult will be eligible for a vaccination by the beginning of May, 2021 and the vast majority of the US adult public should be completely vaccinated by the beginning of June, 2021.

The nice thing about this format is that the territories are not necessarily shunted off to the bottom of the table. For instance, US Military and Veterans Affairs are ranks 35 and 36. There are now 8 Units, all 8 of them being states, with over 1,000,000 total confirmed C19 cases. To put this in perspective, including the entire USA itself, the entire world has 21 nations that are over the 1,000,000 mark.

As you can see, just as with EOM Feburary 2021, 5 states within the Union saw more than +100,000 fresh C19 infections during March 2021.

The order of total tests you can find at worldometers, but here, the +tests (monthly), which you cannot find at WorldOMeter:

The positivity rate is something that WorldOMeter does not show, but it is very easy to calculate.

Ignore the top 5 - that's just the excel table going crazy due to a lack of data, but as of row 8 down to row 26, now that is some serious positivity going on. Veterans Affairs and the state of Indiana are closest to the national positivity rate. Indiana was also the closest to the positivity rate at the end of February, so I am now beginning to think that Indiana can perhaps be considered a bellwether for the nation at large. Wait and see what the April figures bring.

49 Units now have at least 1,000 C19 deaths apiece. New York surged over 50,000 total C19 deaths, the second state within any nation of the world to do this.

California suffered +6,725 deaths in March 2021, just somewhat more than 1/2 of California's monthly +deaths at EOM February 2021.

IN CONCLUSION: while the rest of the world appears to entering it's 3rd wave, the USA appears to not be entering what would be it's 4th wave. A lot of factors are probably in play here, the quick vaccination of a large chunk of the US-public being one of those positive factors. Also, the politics coming from the Biden administration are very different than what the American public was hearing from the Trump administration and doubtless this plays a role. Also, there are some large urban areas that may have reached herd immunity and therefore there are less new infections. The unknown in this is is how virulent the UK, South African and more importantly, the Brazilian mutations are and what effect they may or may not have on vaccinations. But it is indeed a relief to see the USA not posting daily +cases in the 6-digit range and +deaths no longer in the 4-digit range. Whereas the USA was very much the main driver of the first two worldwide waves (Spring 2020, late Fall/Winter 2020-2021), it is most definitely NOT the driver of what looks very much to be a new wave (or wavelet) across most other places in the world.

You are absolutely right! Indeed, I do believe that both the German healthcare system (AS a system) and your public education system are superior to ours in the States.

But, it must be contrasted while remembering that Germany's population is only about 25% of our population over here. Here, we have too many people who pay little or nothing for "services", but expect taxpayers to pay for everything for them....

 

Interesting that too many Germans don’t have that attitude but still have world class health and education systems.

 

It's a choice between paying towards the healthcare costs of those who can afford it or paying towards the massive profits of insurance and pharmaceutical companies.
The thing I really struggle to understand is that the US govt' spends roughly the same amount on healthcare per person as the UK govt' without providing universal healthcare.
Then US citizens pay the same again to insurance companies.
Someone is ripping people off...
