On a population basis, Germany and the US are currently roughly equivalent in terms of covid deaths daily? (with trend in the US decreasing while German trend is increasing?)

Doesn't suggest Germany's handling of the pandemic is anything to write home about.....

It’s too complex to be able to decide one way or the other. I wouldn’t guess what’s going to happen when the Brazilian strain takes hold.

WORLDWIDE COVID-19 statistical analysis for EOM March, 2021 (2021-03-031 )
(UTC +0, Greenwich = 20:00 UTC -5, East Coast of the USA)

    Published April 2, 2021
    WORLDWIDE:
    Ώ֍֍*** 129,463,825 ***֍֍Ώ

THE WORLDWIDE DATA FOR MARCH 2021 IS FINAL
    +674,187 daily cases / +12,970 daily deaths

+14,755,706 cases over the month before / +284,795 deaths over the month before

    Fixed-statistics at EOM MAR 2021:
    TOTAL C19 cases: 87 nations with 100,000+, 21 nations with 1,000,000+, 3 nations with 10,000,000+.
Chile was poised to go over the 1,000,000 C19-case mark on April 1, 2021 (would be the 22nd nation)

There have now been 2,828,015 total COVID-19 deaths worldwide
Brazil and Mexico crossed over 300,000 and 200,000 total deaths during March, 2021, respectively.
For monthly deaths (top 41 nations) over February 2021, see: new monthly calculation table below.

Worldwide 7-day rolling averages: +578,277 new C19 cases per day (was: +393,533) / +10,278 deaths per day (was: +9,339)
    ---------------------------------------------------------

The number of serious/critical (ICU) cases worldwide: 96,459 (one month ago: 90,291)
NINETY-THREE nations on Earth have now administered +1,000,0000 (or far more) C19 tests.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    STAT'S EXCEL-TABLE:

    2021-03-031 COVID-19 WORLDWIDE 000 - FINAL.png

The big news of March 2021 is four-fold: first, vaccinations really started to take off in some nations, but are lagging seriously in others. Second, the world began to show signs of entering a third world-wide wave, the large exception to this being the USA, at least for now. Scientists believe this third wave is due mostly to the UK mutation taking over as the main virus marker. It is far more contagious, not not more deadly than the "wild" variant. Third, in both +cases and +deaths, Brazil is now securely in the lead and facing a crisis that may actually eclipse what the USA has been going through. And fourth, in March 2021, I upped the number of nations that are being tracked from 28 to 41:

Daily tracking extended upward from 28 to 41 nations, posted 2021-03-018,16:46 UTC +1, #13256.

Also, in February, I developed the tracking tree (based on the idea of an ancestral family tree design). Here is how the tracking tree looks right now:

The tracking tree is a good way to get a quick and reliable overview of the situation at hand without getting all down in the weeds with too much numerical minutae. It's also an excellent way to determine if your eyes are good or if perhaps a visit to and opthamologist of your choice would be a good thing to do.... :)

    The 4-Rubriks Worksheet:
here the last three days of March, 2021:
    2021-03-031 COVID-19 WORLDWIDE 000 - rubrik worktable.png
The first three weeks can be found with each Sunday concise analysis.

The top 41 nations (all in my current tracking) within the worldwide figures:

Here the screenshots of the excel tables for 41 top nations nations alongside the worldwide figures today can be found in the pre-analysis reports:
    EOM Pre-analysis tables, Part 1 for 2021-03-031, posted 2021-04-001, 12:36 UTC +1, #13287.
    EOM Pre-analysis tables, Part 2 for 2021-03-031, posted 2021-04-001, 13:26 UTC +1, #13289.
    EOM Pre-analysis tables, Part 3 for 2021-03-031, posted 2021-04-001, 13:43 UTC +1, #13290.
    EOM Pre-analysis tables, Part 4 for 2021-03-031, posted 2021-04-001, 13:58 UTC +1, #13291.

And the EOM analysis just for the USA: USA EOM analysis for 2021-03-031, posted 2021-04-001, 21:00 UTC +1, #13295.

Here the data for the top 41 in four rubriks, clear for the eye to see:

    2021-03-031 COVID-19 Worldwide top 41 - total cases, deaths, recovered, actives.png

Here we can see that at the end of March 2021, the top 41 nations accounted for 90.40% of all the world's cases, 91.33% of all the world's deaths, 89.84% of the officially listed recoveries and 83.67% of the still-active, not-yet-recovered cases across the world. So, as you can see, increasing the tracking of the top nations from 28 to 41 so intensively means that I have gone from covering 4/5 of the world's C19 activity to now 9/10 of the same.

In the pre-analysis tables and the USA analysis (and also for the worldwide figures at the very top of this analysis), you will see that I ditched the arrow-system (➚ ➘ ➙). I found it to be a waste of time. But I have been keeping track of the "arrows" mathematically for a good while now, down to the last digit, here. You will see the same table being sorted three ways:

2021-03-031 COVID-19 Worldwide top 41 -plus cases, plus deaths (month).png

2021-03-031 COVID-19 Worldwide top 41 -plus case and deaths difference (month).png

2021-03-031 COVID-19 Worldwide top 41 -plus case and deaths growth rates (month).png

In the middle screenshot, calculating the +cases / +deaths DIFFERENCE over the same for the month before, anything over the blue line was a driver of the surge and anything below the blue line was a detractor from the surge. Here you can see that the blue lines between +cases (monthly) and +deaths (monthly) diverge greatly. NEW to this month is the sorting of the growth rate (the bottom screenshot). A relatively small nation may post moderate numbers, but those numbers can percentually represent a massive + or - growth rate. For instance, Bangladesh, one of the 13 new nations in the tracking, showed a +case growth rate of almost 83%, and so on and so on.

WORLDWIDE TOTAL C19 CASES (3 of 6 screenshots):
    2021-03-031 COVID-19 Worldwide 001 - total cases.png
    2021-03-031 COVID-19 Worldwide 002 - total cases.png
    2021-03-031 COVID-19 Worldwide 003 - total cases.png

The remaining 3 screenshots are at the overflow link at the top of the analysis.

WORLDWIDE TOTAL C19 DEATHS (2 of 3 screenshots):

In March, 2021, Italy sprang over the 100,000 death mark. Russia and France are poised to do likewise in April 2021.

The remaining screenshot is at the overflow link at the top of the analysis.

WORLDWIDE TOTAL C19 TESTS (2 of 3 screenshots):

The remaining screenshot is at the overflow link at the top of the analysis.

    WORLDWIDE TOTAL STATISTICS BY CONTINENT:
All of the screenshots of the continental data are at the overflow link at the top of the analysis. Here is the distillation of the top-line data for the continents:

    2021-03-031 COVID-19 Worldwide continental encapsulation.png

Europe and North America pretty much tie in total cases, total deaths and recovered cases, taking ranks 1 and 2, respectively. In terms of active cases, Europe and the USA are also rank 1 and 2, but it is clearly not a tie.

So, keeping it more concise these days....our goal is for every country to be more and more like Oceana, where not hardly a case can be found, and just as few deaths.

To be clear, it's not "my" educational system. I am a US-American. I merely live and work in good old Germany.

It's simply a matter of the intergenerational contract. Either people take is seriously, or they don't. Germans, even the FDPers (FDP is the most capitalistic party in Germany), take it quite seriously.

At current, the 7-day rolling average for the USA is 976 deaths per day. For Germany, that rolling 7-day average is 161. 7he USA has 331 million, Germany has 83 million. That's a 4 to 1 ratio. But in terms of deaths, the ratio between the two nations is: 6 to 1. So, no, they are not roughly equivalent. Also, Germany's daily deaths have been trending downward as well:

Here the data for EOM March 2021 for Germany:

And now, same time-frame, the USA:

I want to thank you for your excellent question. It's questions like that that make the hard work of storing and analyzing the flow of data so important, because I was able to answer your question with a 100% honest answer based on facts alone. Win, win!

As for whether or not Germany has been handling the pandemic better, worse or the same as others would require a subjective judgment. What I can tell you, 100% based on fact, is that Germany, for a long, long time, kept the deaths down, and then, when the 2nd worldwide wave started in the third week of October, 2020 and really started to roar as of November 2nd, 2020, deaths in Germany shot up. At the onset, many of those deaths were older people who had been holding on much longer than they would have been able to do in other countries, but at the end of the day, Covid-19 killed them all the same. That's probably the most salient and sanquine answer I can give to your last thought.

CHILE EXCEEDED 1,000,000 TOTAL COVID-19 CASES ON 2021-04-001, 22nd NATION TO DO SO

I didn't want this to get buried under the hurry and flurry of EOM reporting for March, 2021. Yesterday, on April 1st, 2021, Chile was the 22nd nation to jump over this marker:

    2021-04-001 COVID-19 CHILE 000 - Chile goes over 1,000,000 C19 cases.png

I'll just publish the excel-table screenshot this time, because in the next 30 minutes you will also see it in the concise analysis for 2021-04-001 and then I am going to drink lots of Gin-and-Tonic.

Thanks, Stat, for your untiring work.

Meanwhile Bolsonaro, overseeing the worst covid-19 disaster in the world, is claiming people have to work if they want to put food on the table.....the worst kind of neoliberal economic orthodoxy ever.

    And so we have:

Worst Place On Earth For COVID-19 Is Looking Like Brazil : Goats and Soda : NPR

"Bolsonaro declared that Brazilians could "count on the armed forces" to defend their liberty and democracy, including the constitutional right to free movement, without explaining how the military might do so.
"I will do anything for my people!" he declared".

Gotta love right-wing ideologues...saviours of the people!

For those (like Bosonaro) who don't know: governments can lock-down the non-essential sectors of the economy, and change the digits in the bank accounts of all idled workers, to enable them to pay rent and buy food, for the duration of the pandemic.

Europeans are in for a rough time also, since Merkel and Macron also hold to orthodox monetarist orthodoxy (though they are prepared to lock-down their economies to save lives).

The pain for them will come when they attempt to repair EU citizens' depleted savings accounts, while attempting to reduce government deficits, an impossible task to achieve simultaneously.

RUSSIA EXCEEDS 100,000 TOTAL COVID-19 DEATHS, 7th NATION ON EARTH TO DO SO

Today, 2021-04-003, Russia joined the 6-digit club in total deaths, behind the USA, Brazil, Mexico, India, the UK and Italy, making it the 7th nation on earth to reach this gruesome marker. Russia reports the daily figures for that day by about 11:00 AM my time and to this day, they have never revised their numbers, not even once. So, this set of numbers is definitely final for today as applies to Russia.

    2021-04-003 COVID-19 RUSSIA - exceeds 100,000 total deaths.png

This will also be duly noted in the concise analysis for this day when it come out early on Sunday, 2021-04-004.

France is not far behind and I expect it will jump over the 100,000 death mark by the end of next week, which will make it the 8th nation on Earth to do so.

That is very kind of you. When I started this, I had no idea it would become this extreme, but I'm the type who brings his projects to a correct end, I just don't give up. I am also brutally neutral about the numbers, they are what they are.

Our fervent hope and prayer is that enough of the world reaches herd immunity within this year, that vaccinations go out the roof and that by the fall, a semblance of normalcy will return to our daily lives.

I cannot wait to see the day when the USA reports ZERO deaths. For that day, I'm saving an extremely fine bottle of whiskey.

BTW, you are always welcome here and should you have any questions, feel free to fire away.

    Und nochmals DANKE.

The problem I see with Bolsonaro is that his inactivity most definitely lead to a new strain emerging in Brazil and apparently, it can cause reinfections both in people who already had and officially resolved the virus and now I am hearing (but it is not triple-sourced yet, so it is not yet official) that even some individuals who were fully vaccinated against the "wild type" have caught the Brazilian strain.

The day make come when the World will have to blockade Brazil just to stem this mutation from going any further.

Also, there is strong reason to believe that Brazil is actually underreporting the daily death statistics, depending on which party has the control in each of the 27 federative states. Also, the five regions are showing some marked differences in numbers of daily cases and deaths. Some of that is unsurprising, but some of it, in my opinion, is.

I'm taking kind of a crash-course in Brazil (about which I knew almost nothing one year ago) but am not yet qualified to make some subjective/objective statements about C19 in that land, by state, quite yet.

Here is a state and regional overview from the last 12 days:

Ontario, Canada is moving to a 4-week strict lockdown.

Canada is on the verge of 1,000,000 total C19 cases, it will likely go over that marker tomorrow, 2021-04-004.

I would like to note that +cases are starting to soar again in:

-India (7 day rolling average: +68,965 cases per day)

-Turkey (7 day rolling average: +42,280 cases per day)

-France (7 day rolling average: +39,400 cases per day)

    and

-Poland (7 day rolling average: +27,694 cases per day)

They've already been soaring in Brazil for weeks now (7 day rolling average: +72,151 cases per day)

And by the way, in the last days, Norway, Sri Lanka, Montenegro and Ghana have all moved ahead of China in the C19 rankings. 13 months ago, China was rank 1, now it is rank 92. Oh, and Montegro's population is: 628,000. In contrast, China's is 1,439,000,000....

So yeah, China is lying about it's Covid-19 statistics. I strongly suspect that China has had at least 65 million positive test results and not the ridiculous 90,252 at current.

All the Democrat-led state governments are sweating bullets now, worrying about a big surge in April featuring the "UK strain". They predicted it would inundate us in the States in March, but that didn't fully materialize, although there have been a rising number of cases in more and more individual states.

The vaccination process in a number of areas (like in my state of Colorado) is a real MESS. We're so backed up and badly coordinated in sign-up, roll-out, and execution that it would be great comedy if it weren't so pathetic....

There is just one small problem with what you wrote, EU citizens savings accounts are at a all time high. They are locked down, can not spent.
We are now talking of billions of Euro, waiting to be spent.

    Colorado is my State, also.
I can not say it is a mess. Opposite, Colorado did rather well,. I got my second bioNtech 4 weeks ago, all my employees have at least 1 vaccination, bioNtech. In a week they will get #2.

Yes by European standards the vaccination process is a mess, but only because of hygiene and after shot care.
My Large animal vet does better. But than it is about getting vaccinated and not being picky.

CANADA EXCEEDED 1,000,000 TOTAL COVID-19 CASES ON 2021-04-001, 23rd NATION TO DO SO

On 2021-03-031, Chile jumped over the 1,000,000 mark in total C19 cases. Three days later, on 2021-04-003, Canada did the same:

I'll just publish the excel-table screenshot this time, because in the next minutes you will also see it in the concise analysis for 2021-04-003.
