And the good thing about cartels is that they're not religiously motivated like radical Islamists. There's no virtue in being a martyr.

I feel confident that if the situation was explained to the Mexican people - that the military is there to help end the drug wars- they would get local support. This can't continue, and the Mexican President should get on board. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-...to-record-in-first-half-of-2019-idUSKCN1UG0QS

I think, having them show Americans the same courtesy in Mexico as we show them in the U.S. wouldn't be to much to ask! And it the Pres of Mexico can control the cartels then I think it's in our best interest to clean that shlthole up for our safety and theirs!

I suspect the people were killed because that Mormon sect refused to help a drug cartel smuggle drugs into the U.S.

Back in early 2010, I had stopped at a local McDonald’s for breakfast. As I enjoyed my meal while reading a newspaper, an elderly couple sat down in the next booth. The husband plugged a laptop computer into a wall socket then apologized in advance: “I hope we aren’t disturbing you. We’re using McDonald’s as our motel.”

I replied, “No problem. So long as you don’t do anything that prompts me to say, ‘Get a room.’” They laughed.

The man explained that they had just driven up from their polygamy compound in Mexico. He complained that the media distorted their lifestyle. The group was living in Mexico in anticipation of the collapse of the United States and its invasion by China and Russia.

I asked him if he was concerned about setting up shop in a possible failed state, considering the drug war violence. His attitude toward the gangs: Live and let live. Except, he noted, a nephew had been killed by gang members because he refused to let them use his private plane to smuggle drugs.

I know for a fact they would.. The all love their country, this is fact! But they are constantly bullied and extorted by cartels and that's what drives them from their country..

Mexico is seriously oppressive, not from Government but thugs! And the Cartels are so large now that they control local law enforcement and is a huge part of the countries economy..

Time for a cleansing, and if Mexico's government is unwilling to do it, I'm sure Trump will lend President Obrador a hand!

Cane and release the users of illegal drugs and the "War On Drugs" will be won in less than a year.
Of course, that will never happen because the drug cartels are business cronies of our corrupt bipartisan ruling political class.

It's certainly a problem that requires action on many fronts.

The Mexican government, like the USG cannot afford to lose the illegal drug smuggling industrial complex.

The Mexican government is incompetent and incapable of fixing this problem. There's no excuses to be had.

You mean as opposed to killing us now?

Yes, let's roll over on our bellies for the most violent people in the world, maybe they will spare us.

Demand is the source of the problem. Smugglers will always find a way to meet the demand.

There is little evidence that the USG is much more competent than the Mexican government, and the cartels probably own a significant part of both governments.

decriminalize drugs, make 'war' on murderers instead.

This war on drugs has been an abject failure for decades.

Absolutely would not be surprised by the level of involvement of anyone employed by the U.S. government. I have to highly disagree about the levels of incompetence. Many South American governments are similarly incompetent, though I'd say we miss the mark by a long shot.

How hard do you think it is for the drug cartels to hire former elite troops and intelligence officers who have served in war?
How hard do you think it is for the cartels to bribe, blackmail or coerce government officials to work for them?

You must admire Trump to emulate him as you do. Cartels existed long before Trump. Other than provide them with power and guns, who has done anything about the problem?

We deal with them now or we deal with them when they control all of the Mexican government.

They won't be any better equipped than the guys we've been killing for years overseas.

Yes, I think the USG would have even less success in Mexico than it has had in Afghanistan.
