    Hmmm...

Trump walks off stage following his speech.
Bannon rushes up to Trump. "Uh, Boss, there was no attack in Sweden last night. You were just watching a movie clip on Fox."
"Oh. Guess I better send out a Tweet explaining what I meant. Steve...tell me what I meant, in 140 characters or less."

Oh ...have we moved on to the cute fact-less trolling phase now that our manufacuted outrage has been destroyed by facts?

    Ok, I'll play.

Are we sure this wasn't all a Russian plot?

I mean ...are we sure Trump sent the Tweet?

Are we sure it wasn't ze Russians?

And while we're on the subject, something did happen last night in Sweden.

    Something horrific, something cataclysmic!

    Global warming happened!

Some forget that Obama relied on T.V. news for information as well.

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...-scandals.html

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney wound up with egg on his face Monday as he told reporters that President Barack Obama first learned from a TV news report that his Veterans Administration was denying medical care to vets with secret off-the-books-waiting lists.

    <snip>

The Washington Times reported Monday that waiting times at veterans' medical facilities were known to be wildly inaccurate at the end of the George W. Bush administration. By the time Obama's transition team got a post-election briefing from the VA at the end of 2008, scheduling failures were already reaching a critical point.

The newspaper received a copy of that briefing through a Freedom Of Information Act request.

Obama has come under fire before for saying he was made aware of scandal-worthy shortcomings in his own administration by watching television, including the IRS tea party-targeting scandal that rocked Washington 12 months ago and the Operation Fast and Furious saga that has tainted his Justice Department for years.

I can understand that, but if you let fear control your actions then you become irrational.

Looking at it objectively, it's plain he neither lied nor imagined anything, but merely made a grammatical error that caused confusion.

Better arguments would take on the precepts connecting crime and immigration, the Swedish definition of rape and pre-immigration European terror .

IF you are embarrassed, it is because you are embarrassing yourself. Although frankly, I don't think you folk have what it takes for embarrassment to enter the picture.

Donald Trump screwed up with what he said. HE WAS WRONG. If it had been Barack Obama doing that, you people would have been all over him. It actually is kind of fun seeing the tables turned.

Don't let it get to ya, Latherty! Trump is going to screw up often...and big time. Your side hasn't even begun to feel the heat. Wait until it starts coming from people currently still on your side.

If you are saying that Donald Trump doesn't have a clue about how to clearly say what he has to say...and that he tortures the language when he speaks...

...I guess I gotta agree with you.

But you do realize that is part of the incompetence charge we make against the guy...right?

For me it has been a laugh a second.

Yeah, I probably shouldn't be laughing at the incompetent clod, but I have to look past the damage the guy is causing. At 80 years of age laughter is good medicine...and you accept it even in times like these.

Watching his sheep try to make a silk purse out of the sow's slop he gives them to work with, by the way, is just added laughter.

Lighten up, Z. The "level 10 mouth foam outrage" is coming from your side of the fence (!) because now you guys are on the receiving end of the criticism...not the delivering end.

Do you think Obama was a good president, Kathy?

If not, then how the hell does, "but Obama kinda' sorta' maybe did something similar," help your case at all?

    Exactly!

The Swedes were baffled...not just "the American left."

The guy is a loose cannon without the intellectual equipment to hold the job he is now in.

We will get much, much more of this as time goes by...and my fear is that some of it will not be so benign. Here we can kid about it and laugh at it. I hope the day does not come where a more lethal STUPID MISTAKE does not cause bullets to fly and people to die.

It's really funny that so many anti-Obama, pro-Trump posters rely on the London Daily Mail for the source of their information. I guess Fox just isn't bat-$hit-crazy enough any more.

The London Daily Mail is a rag tabloid.

Not everyone watches Fox News like you....and who knew the president is dumb enough to use Fox News opinion pieces as a basis for facts to shout out at a rally. Fake news indeed........the only misrepresenting going on is that of Trump - just ask the Swedes. Trump spewing total nonsense, imagine my surprise......

Another Fake News attack on Trump fails.

“Swedish police on Tuesday were investigating a riot that broke out overnight in a predominantly immigrant suburb in Stockholm after officers arrested a suspect on drug charges.

The clashes started late Monday when a police car arrested a suspect and people started throwing stones at them in Rinkeby, north of Stockholm. Unidentified people, including some wearing masks, also set cars on fire and looted shops.”

Every time this happens the political establishment and its MSM loses even more of its now endangered residue of credibility.

I'm afraid I'm a liberal, Frank. And my even-handedness is demonstrated by this defence of Trump.

Yes Trump will screw up. To err is human. If we treat grammatical errors like they are policy announcements, then we reduce the policy issues to the level of grammatical errors.

Save the shrill outrage for matters of substance.

    I completely agree.

    However, ...
I do not fear being robbed or killed by Muslim Terrorists. People who voted for Donald Trump fear being robbed or killed by Muslim Terrorists.
I do not fear being robbed or killed by Illegal Immigrants. People who voted for Donald Trump fear being robbed or killed by Illegal Immigrants.
I do not fear losing my job due to Government Regulations. People who voted for Donald Trump fear losing their jobs due to Government Regulations.
I do not fear losing my life after appearing before an ObamaCare Death Panel. People who voted for Donald Trump fear losing their lives after appearing before an ObamaCare Death Panel.

Trump's campaign was based on fear. People who voted for Donald Trump bought into that fear.

As you said fear makes people become irrational.

Seriously, a grammatical error? That's the lamest version I've yet heard from any Trumpeteer.

The murder rate per 100,000 people
    0.9 Sweden
    3.9 USA

The number of Americans killed on American soils by Muslim terrorists since 1/1/2001 - Less than 5000
The number of Americans killed on American soils by Americans since 1/1/2001 - More than 160,000

    My point precisely.
Whats more, I think suspect this Sweden story is going to evolve into a scandal of data manipulation.
This PC side of liberalism, which is totally illiberal, BTW, if perhaps the largest existential threat our society faces.

    (my emphases)
    http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/president-trump-crime-sweden/story?id=45610077
“It’s very judgmental,” Nicklas Lund, a press officer at the Swedish National Council for Crime Prevention, said of the claims. The council is an agency in Sweden’s Ministry of Justice that conducts research on the judicial system.

Sweden has 15 suburbs with high crime rates, he said, but the recent influx of refugees doesn’t explain the problem. Rinkeby is one of these 15 areas.

“In 2015 a big number of refugees came to Sweden, and these were problem areas before that,” he told ABC News.

In fact, the number of reported crimes in those 15 areas decreased from 2014 to 2015. In 2015, 19,092 crimes were reported in those 15 areas — a decline from 19,576 in 2014. In 2012 the number of reported crimes in these areas was over 20,200, according to data from the Swedish National Council for Crime Prevention. Numbers for 2016 are not yet available.

The council looks at factors such as income and education level in its research on why people commit crimes — not whether they are refugees, Lund said.

Indeed. Don't mistake me for a Trump supporter. I just think we should have better standards and stick to them.

Absolutely it was. when he clarified that he meant he was referring to a documentary that he saw the previous night on the TV, and there was such a program the previous evening, and such a reading was more consistent with the rest of the paragraph than the alternative, it became clear.

Yes, these are the kind of arguments that the left should be making in response to Trump's statement.
The real question is whether immigration can be linked to a rise in crime rates. It is specifically the issue of rape where Sweden becomes interesting in this respect. Apparently, data on the ethnicity of perpetrators ceased to be collected in 2011, but at that stage apparently showed 77% of rape perpetrators were from the 6% Muslim population, and a 500% increase in the numbers of rapes since 2005 or something. Of course the numbers are very low, something like 60 cases per year, and I believe the numbers have stabilised whilst the immigrant population continued to rise, which should break any statistical correlation. But unfortunately we can't examine that theory as the data is not collected anymore.

Yes, I watched Tucker Carlson question a Swedish journalist about soaring crime stats published by the Swedish government. She insisted that crime was down, but would not deny the actual numbers presented by Carlson.

It was an amazing display of Orwellian Double Think. Ditto the two Swedish cops that were sent to the Ministry Truth after telling the documentary maker what was really happening in Sweden. What an oppressive ugly government.

One would need a longer trend to determine whether or not there is a correlation. There were immigrant riots in 2013 so to say it stabilised for one year is perhaps aggressively optimistic. Unfortunately (for data analysis purposes) the ethnicity of perps seems to have stopped being collected back in 2011. The council's statement regarding the factors it is looking at is quite telling. This tactic of deliberate ignorance for PC purposes was sharply criticised in relation to the Rotherham child sexual abuse scandal in the UK. Why is Mr Lund so determined to not look at issues of ethnicity?

Looking the other way is not something you do if you are interested in the rights of the victims

There was no "grammatical error", Latherty, and treating incompetence, intemperance, rashness, and ignorance as merely a grammatical error is not showing even-handedness...it is showing gross foolishness.

Donald Trump made a mistake. As I said earlier...nothing wrong with making mistakes. I make 'em...and I suspect we all do.

What I do when I make mistakes is to say, "Oops, I made a mistake."

That is what people with spine and an ethical stance do.

That is not what Donald Trump did...nor what his supporters are doing. If you want to join them in this instance...that is your right. It still is a free country as of today.

    No it doesn't.

It has been with the right for years now...and it still is there.

You guys are getting a tiny taste of what you have been spewing for years...and handling it like two years olds.
