Mohammad's teaching of hatred towards "the other" is a huge part of the underlying hatred that exists in the Middle East. The Jewish texts also teach hatred towards "the other", as well. Religion needs to take some of the blame, for sure.

He can't choose another country's capital. What he can do and did was to move the U.S. Embassy form Tel Aviv to Jerusalem and he doesn't need any regional support to do it.

This move is a brilliant strategy on Trumps part
1. The American/Israeli pact is strengthened -
2. The Patestinian Authority and associated groups lose big time as they lose credibility, support and money for being a terrorist state
3. The regional ambitions of Iran, Turkey and Syria and their client states have been dealt a serious blow as, via this move, the US will now be involved much more heavily in the security of Israel
4. The silence from Egypt and Saudi Arabia is deafening as their regional ambitions are solidified with the US as partner supplying them with military and other means of support.

What's not mentioned in all of this:
1. The prelude in Saudi Arabia where a house cleaning has taken place sidelining the wahabists and Islamic hardliners and solidifying the Crown Princes political position as the man in charge. All the Saudi money going to terrorist organizations and rogue states is going away.
2. The mid-east relationship between the US and Russia where common self interests take precedence. The US and Russia communicate before they make any regional military moves.
3. The 4th item in the Trump Foreign Policy, "mess with the US and the US will mess with you" proves Trumps willingness to penalize those states that go out of their way to mess with the USA. The Jerusalem move does all of that and more.

How can you say people will die? Who is going to kill them, the members of the religion of peace muslims?

 

Why would any adult indulge in magical thinking? Neither Obama nor the US had any control over the Arab street or the Arab Spring.

How so they won't die any worse or in any greater numbers. We may even derive the sort of cathartic event out of this that needs to happen if we are ever going to achieve any sort of lasting peace. in the ME.

 

That is not far from the truth. In fact it is the truth.

Here is what we have. We have a President, contrary to rational behavior, contrary to the position of every other nation on the planet, and contrary to just plain common sense, who has decided to take a unilateral position on Middle East peace thus depriving our nation of a role in the peace process.

He did this to satisfy his fire-breathing evangelical base and to fulfill a campaign promise that never should have been made, a campaign promise bought and paid for by the Jewish lobby.

Don't get me wrong. All my life I have been a strong supporter of the Jewish state. That is why Trump's decision is so wrong. The Jewish state will never be secure until there is peace in the Middle East. Trump did not do Israel any favors. He endangered the Jewish state.

Trump did not make this decision for Israel. Trump made this decision for Trump. He accomplished two things. One, he satisfied his base. Two, he drew attention away from Mueller and the Russian probe. He is willing to sacrifice the lives and well-being of others to provide temporary relief from Mueller's investigation.
