The goal is to have what you need to suit the mission you give them. If you want to change the mission, then that is one thing. But just because we have the greatest army in history, doesn't mean it's adequate for the mission we gave them.

Assuming that Old Ronnie gets credit for breaking Russia do you think the world and America is safer now? And I do agree that Ronnies increase in military spending probably hurt Russia but why would he spend it on something that didn't work.

 

I think we should alter the mission, in a reduced manner. But, if we want to keep doing what we have been doing, we will need equipment upgrades as we go along. That's just obvious.

The world was safer until BHO pulled the troops from Iraq in December, 2011. Now there will likely be smaller international wars, just as there was with Communism during the Cold War What's your take?

 

No other country can challenge us militarily now and our military spending is equal to the next eight countries combined so it seems rather hard to defend increasing military spending to an even greater part of our national budget.

And if you actually look at how many military installation we have worldwide, and the top heavy weighting of the military organization it appears hard to argue that our military is even slightly cost effective.

 

The current mission is to be ready and able to invade in three theaters simultaneously. We are woefully under supplied to do that. Again, if you want to talk about changing the mission, I am all ears. But, so long as this is the mission, this is what it requires, and we are short of that. This isn't complicated to understand.

The goal of no military, on THIS PLANET, is to be cost effective. The goal is to be defense effective. You don't build an army because you want to say you fought in a war, and made a passable showing. You build it because you want to WIN the war.

This is why Liberals should not engage in military discussions. Just sayin...

Dude. Just stop. You have NO idea what you are talking about. YOUR goal for the military, is not the actual factual mission they have been given by Congress. We don't have the 11 largest aircraft carriers in the word, merely to patrol our shores. The military has been given a wide ranging mission, via the legislative process, and succeeding in that mission requires various things to accomplish it.
