So the answer is if we save American and Japanese lives we can nuke countries? If you were in charge of the nukes is that the only factor you would need to consider? It would hope it is a ton more complicated then that.

Trump merely replied to this provocative question by a liberal journalist and he had to make a humane response, which may not actually reflect the administration's official stance to stay out of Syria.

Is using weaponry to save lives immoral in your world?

But you don't want to stop Assad.

    Plan to rebuild a country:
    1.1.1.1.1.1 a) i. Establish a monopoly of violence

Once there is a monopoly of violence then you have peace, and then you can have rule of law in contract and then you have commerce. Once you have peace you can work towards the higher goals of a functioning democratic state. But without peace you just have anarchy.

There is no obvious alternative to Assad. Stopping Assad leads to, as we have discovered, empowering ISIS. Assad sucks, but he's better than ISIS. There are probably some guys in the various factions as well, but none are strong enough to take on the country and fight ISIS at the same time. We backed Stalin in WWII to stop the Nazis and we can back Assad now to stop ISIS.

You know I sometimes just don't know what to make of statements from Trump. It's like he voices everything that goes through his head and gives his own words very little consideration.

I would put far more faith in what he says if I knew he's considered the facts and consulted everyone who needs to be consulted before he made his statement.

So he says Assad crossed a red line (which of course he did) but it's not the first time nor is it the second time...

I don't know what a "monopoly of violence" is. Is that like holding 3 of the same color properties in Damascus? How long does this theory of a "monopoly of violence" take to result in a functioning democratic state. Assad has been in charge since 2000. His Ba'ath party has been in charge since the 60s. If it takes decades more there are probably a lot of Syrian that would disagree with your social experiment.

After Obama drew his red line?

Doesn't sound like he did much stopping at all.

What the heck is this Obama infatuation.................he is no longer POTUS. Trump is POTUS, he is now in the driver's seat. Stop blaming Obama. He is retired and rightfully so. Get a new scapegoat.

A monopoly of violence just means that only one participant has the authority to administer violence against the population - they need to have the capacity to deliver punishment against anyone in their territory. It is a precursor to establishing laws. Syria was doing OK by most measures until the regime lost its monopoly https://www.unicef.org/infobycountry/syria_statistics.html

I am no fan of Obama, but I have to say your comment is absurd. Why is it our job to police the world? Obama was smart to not act like Bush, who started a senseless war that cost Trillions of dollars and resulted in the death and maiming of thousands of U.S. soldiers. Starting wars is not a sign of manhood (to use a politically incorrect word) as you seem to imply. When the Iraq war kicked off everyone I knew who had served in Vietnam was against it. The people that support senseless wars are either Chickenhawks or those who profit from the military industrial complex.

I think we are probably on different sides of the political fence, but I agree with you on this. After the tough talk he will do nothing. One reason I think people are afraid of Pit Bulls (and you could say this about Chows as well) is they go straight into a full out attack without the warning growl. Too much growling is a sign of a dog that is afraid.
