China may also have plans to absorb North Korea, much as they have done with Tibet. That would make sense for them and Trump must recognize this possibility. They have shown they want to continue expanding in this area and remain a long term risk..

With the Russian sanctions on NK mining and China's growing coldness with Kim it would seem he will abandon his belligerent ways, but Saddam was given many warnings also. Absolute power is not an easy thing to relinquish..

IMO Saddam made the same mistake Kim is making. Saddam believed that having "weapons of mass destruction" would be a deterrent to the US and other powers and keep him safe, but it did just the opposite.

We live under the shadow of nuclear powered Russia, China... and not forget the US who still think its a happy thing they massacred civilians with it.. twice, and nuclear powered Israel who marches across the border to enlarge their Jew state at the expense of Arabs. One more of them.... won't make up a huge difference.

The hope should be, that the US won't "take care" of this, cause that means Seoul with it's 10's of million of people might be no more, and the US will have their blood on their hands.

"We are fighting in Korea so we won’t have to fight in Wichita, or in Chicago, or in New Orleans, or in San Francisco Bay.

    President Harry S Truman, 1952"

Why does North Korea need nuclear weapons?
The answer isn't hard to find.

    http://www.counterpunch.org/2017/04/21/why-does-north-korea-want-nukes/

"On November 27, 1950 hundreds of thousands of Chinese troops suddenly crossed the border into North Korea completely overwhelming US forces. Acheson said this was the 'worst defeat of American forces since Bull Run...'"

"'Panic took hold in Washington. Truman now said use of A-bombs was under 'active consideration.' MacArthur demanded the bombs… As he put it in his memoirs:

"'I would have dropped between thirty and fifty atomic bombs…strung across the neck of Manchuria…and spread behind us – from the Sea of Japan to the Yellow Sea- a belt of radioactive cobalt. It has an active life of between 60 and 120 years.'"

There hasn't been a mental pygmy like Truman in the White House until Trump.
North Korea paid a huge price with Harry in the White House; it could cease to exist with Trump.

I was asked in this forum by @litwin some weeks ago if I was thinking WW3 could be sparked out of Syria. I told him to take a closer look at the far east instead.

    Litwo?

So WE should strike first instead.

By god, you can't make this **** up. This is the fourth time I've had to show this board to people who simply won't believe that people think this way unless they see it for themselves. The really scary part is that one of them is running the country now

They are only threatening in striking back when others start a war. That is kind of it.

Afterward the NK people, starving by the way, would rather have food in their bellies and heat in their homes than a war of insurgency. Bank on it. Besides the US wouldn't occupy NK, China would.

Cmon sir dial back the political bias a bit. Trump is doing well here. Check this out.

Prior to Xi visiting Trump in Florida recently both their official statements as well as the government controlled media of China were very critical of Trump and the US both for economic as well as the NK situation... I think because he's a Maverick, a wild card that didn't fit into any of their far superior politicaly savvy scenarios.

Chinas GDP growth is going to grow yet again at another staggering 6.5%. They do not want an unknown highly unpredictable quantity rocking their boats track of super nation stardom.. So the harsh rhetoric until..

After Xi visiting Trump in Florida? 100% about face on all fronts officially and via their media?? Like immediately. The only logical conclusion is that Xi heard a lot that he liked from Trump. Xi is a brilliant politician and Trumps lack of experience I think helped him. I think Xi heard straight talk from POTUS and he liked it and saw opportunities. I think Trump put at ease Chinas obvious concern over economic migraines he could cause, probably even hinted at some big benefits for China provided they help us either directly or indirectly with NK. And they are doing that very thing.

So. Methods aside sir that is the definition of diplomacy, and done by a novice on the biggest foreign policy stage of our generation? I think a little begrudging respect is warranted. For now.. Coughs

you do know they been brainwashed since they were little kids, how did that work out in WWII japan if it weren't for the bomb, japan was gonna fight us to the death. this is simply naïve to think, oh they will just drop their gun and welcome US troop in their home. Iraq was also under a dictatorship, now 15 yrs later we still stuck there fighting fanatic

Many are but we have to get past it and recognize that Japan in the future will be once reaarmed a lynch pin ally in the Pacific as strong and loyal as any we have ever had.

They backed the wrong horse but not I think because of animosity towards us but Hitler offered the carrot of China/Asia up to Russia and they couldn't refuse the chance to finish something they started millenia ago. Colossal blunder and they've paid for it dearly.

All the dots connect for this to happen. Big dots. Exciting times.

That is just utter nonsense. You claim Japan would not surrender. But they did! All this is, is coming up with an excuse why the west justified massacring civilians, while cast aside all other excuses when others do that. So who got brainwashed?
