Iran will willing shoot at Americans and our allies at any opportunity where they calculate the blow-back is acceptable.Placing magnetic mines on the hulls of oil tankers, launching long range rockets at bases in the region. An all out war effort though is something they would not risk. For no American President would tolerate that without ordering the obliteration of Iran's ability to make war. Even if Iran scored some immediate success on, let's say, our navy, the near term end of their air, sea and land based offensive capability would swiftly follow..

It is true that Iran has always been the greatest threat to the region. The failure of Bush the Lesser to comprehend this, his removal of Iraq as a power check upon Iran, was the single greatest blunder in American Foreign Policy since Nixon traded American Jobs to the Chinese Communist Party thinking he was tricking them onto a path to Democracy. I was against Nixon's actions and the later actions to grant the Chinese Communist Party ever improving access to Capitalist systems.

Yeah, sure, Iran will strike out if they think they can. We should be watchful and well positioned to deter or respond.

But the big threat is the Chinese Communist Party.

Interesting points and perspective on various Geopolitical issues. The overall backdrop going forward is one of chaos .. every nation fighting for their piece of the economic pie. This will be coupled with a continued decline in US economic hegemony which is in crisis as Biden enters the WH.

The US has lost the ME - China/Russia - and Europe to a lesser degree will be rebuilding Syria - Iraq - Iran. Oman and Qatar both have good relations with Iran - and play both sides of the fence ..

Turkey also plays both sides - as best it can - but being pulled in many directions - would love to see Erdogen gone and Turkey stop its shift towards the Islamist side of the political spectrum.

El Saud is still firmly in the US camp - but- China is now their number 1 customer - and the future looks very unclear..

The US has turned the ME into such a disaster - along with Libya - Slavery still in fashion there these days ?

Al Qaeda and ISIS were also US allies - who were also hunting down Kurds - with guns that we gave them.

You Sir - seem not much in command of the facts .. and seem to have gotten things backwards somewhere along the way ?! Ingesting too much of that State Sponsored Cherry Kool-aid perhaps . No worries though mate we can get you sorted out. ! :bonk::deadhorse::bounce:

OK .. so first thing .. If we are talking #1 state sponsors of terror .. look no further than Brother El Saud .. but this is not a clear winner to be honest .. are neck and neck with Team USA - Iran lagging way far back .. not even close to that league when it comes to committing or sponsoring, aiding and abetting .. Terrorism.

This is especially true over the last Decade - and just as True over the Decade Prior .. but heck .. can go all the way back to Reagan if you like.. doesn't matter .. Iran can't touch the US in terms as one of the top state sponsors of terror.

Did you not know this ? :oldman::oldman:

What's more sparky .. is that in an Ironic Orwellian Twist of Fate ... Soleimani -as it turns out .. spent most of the last decade killing Al Qaeda and ISIS in Syria - and probably should be seen by the USA as a hero on this basis don't you think ?

Brother Obama on the other hand .. Not so much, unfortunately - now go in peace and be well - that your glasses have been fixed.

Scarlet - Yes .. they have vowed to Retaliate. Well .. and in fact they did retaliate -sending ballistic missiles to one of our bases ..injuring our soldiers - while Donald Stood down - probably embarrassed - having a much better command of the facts than average Joe cherry kool-aid.

Would they have retaliated further ? that I am not so sure of .. but . with the second shot in the eye - they are forced to do something if they want to maintain any kind of Political Face .. so Iran is in a nasty box ..

Your obscene assumption - is that folks trusted the US to begin with -our errand boys being part of the package.

8 times we have done this - Just to the Kurds .. never mind the rest of our sordid history.

    Your assumptions are amusing :)

True statement -Bush invaded Iraq as well ..started the "War on Terror" -

In this War we are supposed to be going after Al Qaeda - and groups of the same the extremist ideology - an ideology spawned and inspired by the Caliphate - the "Head of the Snake" - in every sense of the word.

Fast forward less than a decade after the war and we are doing the Snakes Bidding - charmed and mesmerized.

Bin Laden - Al Qaeda's main objective is to rid the world of the dreaded "Secularism" and that we all live in one happy Strict Sharia Theocracy.

You see - the difference between "Us" and "Them" is supposedly that we have respect for essential liberty - and for certain they do not.
They believe they are justified in forcing religious belief on others ... through physical violence (Law) .. and Holy Jihad.

With me so far !? --- less than a decade after 911 - and Osama - could not have dreamed a better outcome.

    1) With a small band of Saudi extremists - he was able to bring the most powerful nation on Earth to its knees ,, is this not a sign from Allah that the cause is Just ?
    2) That nation then turns towards the Snake and makes it the citizen's "Patriotic Duty" to give up essential liberty - just like the Islamist except on the basis of a different kind of Fear .. the former being Fear of God .. Fear of "The Other"

"Give me Liberty or Give me Death" - Those who would exchange essential liberty for security deserve neither - B. Franklin.

    3) We laid waste to the 2 main Secular Muslim Nations in the ME - While the Western Infidel is one thing .. Bin Laden viewed Secularism as a cancer from within .. Iraq and Syria being the two Secular nations.

    4) The snake Charmed Bush 1 - well - the Bush Family are minions of El Saud - closely connected in a love Triangle right from the get go.

Rather than go after the Ideological Source .. and attack the head of the Snake .. Bush is all of a sudden doing Bin Ladin's bidding ..attacking secular Syria - and turning Iraq into a Jihadist wonderland..

    5) While the Bush's were under the Snake Charm - Obama is a new comer - how is El Saud going to exact influence.

Yeah of little faith !! - 10 years after 911 and Obama is now allied with Al Qaeda in their war on Secularism - Allies in the Holy Jihad.

What could possibly be better than that ... right ?

    6) but wait - there is more . Not only does Obama allies with Al Qaeda in the war in Syria .. he is also Allies with Al Qaeda and its Master El Saud in Yemen - an action for which we are being investigated for complicity in war crimes - wait till they get to Syria.

    7) The last sprinkle on the top of this Bin Laden Treat .. Obama starts into Africa and turns Libya into a Jihadist wonderland.

This Snake is very Charming .. I will give it that much :applause::applause:

Iran has told the IAEA it is going to start enriching Uranium to 20%. I mentioned this earlier but forgot to say that it was also going to stop allowing inspectors in. This is a direct result of the killing of the Scientist. Without this murder, Iran was more likely to have gone with Zarif and wait until Biden became President and resume the JCPOA. The murder of course pushed Iran further to the hardliners. After the killing Iran passed an act saying that if the countries of Europe who signed the JCPOA did not find a way whereby Iran could have freedom concerning its oil and banking, then Iran would start enriching Uranium up to 20% and stop allowing Inspectors in. It would appear Europe did not respond so Iran has now taken this step. At this time they also said that the situation was not about Iran talking to Biden about the JCPOA, it was about America going and talking to the UN because it was America who did not fulfil its part of the Treaty and in that they are correct.

The reason for the JCPOA was because it was believed that Iran was a couple of centimeters away from having nukes. The US going against the JCPOA coupled with the murder of this scientist and their top General, who played a predominant role when the US was interested in getting rid of Al Qaeda/Isis, is that Iran is again a cm away from having working nukes and in this Iran is completely innocent. It is the one who has been wronged.

LOL - Thank you - Not for trying to support your claim with Ad Hom Fallacy - but another in a long list of State Department Lies.

Did you not realize that lying about such things is the Job of the State Dept... Did you expect them to come out and say that the USA is the Number One State Sponsor of Terror ?

Did the State Department include the USA being the main supporter of Al Qaeda and ISIS over the last decade into it's assessment ? - while Iran was one of the main nations fighting Al Qaeda and ISIS.

You are in a state of abject denial and thought avoidance - akin the reaction of a Fundamentalist on the Religious Right who has just found out that the that there was no Global Flood that wiped out all Land Creatures around 2100 BC.

"NO NO NO - It can't be True" - The State Department/Pentagon - aka State Sponsored Propaganda Central told me so.

Was it Iran who led a massive effort to arm , support and supply an Islamist Holy Jihad led by Al Qaeda and affiliates in Syria ? .. Nope, that would be Obama.

This action led to the death of over 500,000 - a massive refugee crisis - mostly fleeing the new Islamic State that Obama helped to create and was Allied with.

This action led to the worst humanitarian crisis over the last decade - rape, genocide, forced marriage, war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Iran was fighting against this Evil Strict Sharia Theocracy - fighting against our allies .. our proxy army in Syria - this new Islamic State.

Do tell us what Iran has done that was as bad as this over the last decade .. And this is only one example of Obama supporting Terrorism over the last Decade .. hopefully you will bring up one other.

    The floor is yours.

Some good points but I don't think we can say that Iran has always been the greatest threat to the region over the last 50 years - and certainly not without qualifying better "Threat to who/what" in the region.

If the claim is that Iran has been the biggest threat to stability in the region .. I would counter that this is preposterously and demonstrably false - and am able to think of 4 other contenders off the top of my head. (not saying that this is what you meant - which is why this needs better clarification)

Your first statement is false and absurd ... Iran does not generally shoot at Americans or our allies without good reason.

Although - at least with Respect to the USA/Britain - you could not really blame them that much for wanting to shoot those folks on sight now could you.

No one asked you to accept the credibility of Giftedone over the State Department. Do you have anything other than fallacy in your desperate attempt to avoid and deny the demonstrable fact that your beloved Obama was the biggest Terrorist of the last decade - arm in arm with Brother El Saud.

Sorry to burst your rose colored bubble.

The US did not lose the war in Vietnam, we lost politically. If Johnson had the stones Nixon had Johnson would have sent B52's to rain bombs down on Hanoi instead of playing the North Vietnamese's game. you don't win a war by taking territory and then walking away from it only to return later to retake it but that is what the strategy was. As for Iran let Israel take care of that problem. I'm sure they'd love a go at the Persians. A couple of well placed nukes on the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps would be payback for the attack on the US Embassy and taking American hostages. To bad Jimmy was president at the time. He gutted the military then expected the military to rescue the hostages. Good soldiers died that day. If you are interested in reading about the attempt to rescue the hostages here is a link. SNAFU!

Soon after the bus situation was resolved, a small fueltruck followed by a pickup truck approached the site. They also refused to stop and fire from the security force ignited the fuel.
The fire from the truck was, however, much more than academic. The bright light was blinding to the pilots of inbound C130 aircraft.

And what will the UN do about it? Can the UN members even tie their own shoes without the US? Oh that's right, they need our money. I think it's time the UN moved to a different country.

What would you like the UN to do ? - and how does this mindless descent in to UN demonization - address the current situation in Iraq ?

I get you do not like the UN - but- did you have a point to make other than this ?

Not a lot, since it has no military power of its own and relies completely on the Security Council (of which the US is a member) to approve mandates for the deployment of military forces provided by member states. You want them to 'do something about it'? That would require the approval and consent of the US. Going to protest outside the White House in favor of that outcome are you? If not, shut up.

In part yes, but again see the above. Your literally criticizing the organization for failing to achieve outcomes you won't give it the authority or resources to achieve. Conflicted much? FGS just decide what it is you want. A weak and ineffectual UN? Or a powerful and well resourced UN? If the former well congratulations you have what you want and are therefore being hypocritical when you complain about how little it achieves. If the latter? Then give it the resources to do the job your complaining it's not doing. In other words make up your dam mind, its one or the other.

Ask your diplomatic, intelligence and security services whether they think its a good idea.

I want the UN to do the job both Roosevelt and Churchill mandated when they created the UN. The UN was originally established by like minded countries to defeat the Axis countries. The UN became impotent when countries with a differing philosophy were accepted into the UN security council. Sometimes diversity does not work out as planned.

    https://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/united-nations-created

President Franklin D. Roosevelt and British Prime Minister Winston Churchill issue a declaration, signed by representatives of 26 countries, called the “United Nations.” The signatories of the declaration vowed to create an international postwar peacekeeping organization.
Perhaps most important, the signatories promised to pursue the creation of a future international peacekeeping organization dedicated to ensuring “life, liberty, independence, and religious freedom, and to preserve the rights of man and justice.”

The US intelligent agencies have proven they can eavesdrop on any country. That was shown to be true when the Obama administration was caught eavesdropping on Merkel and other allies. Where ever the UN headquarters is located the US can still eavesdrop on member countries.
