Whats my misfortune? As an Australian, Im healthier, better educated and wealthier than any American. My dollar is worth more than yours and my standard of living much higher. As an Aussie I also get bonus points for knowing that Hawaii is part of the Asia pacific region and that Indonesia is not part of the middle east. Not too mention last time I was in the states women were all over me as soon as they heard the accent. We are just better than you are in all ways, thats all there is to it.

Nothing new, we have had fleet visits into Fremantle for decades since ww2. We are quite happy about it, makes sure even our ugly women get a root now and then.

Australia is the land of a little people incapable of successfully defending themselves without assistance. This means that Oz is constantly trying to remain in the good graces of some greater people. Britain, America, China. Past, present and future.

What you say here doesnt alter the factual information which is that we havent needed your assistance, ever. You protected your own interests in the Pacific region during ww2, not ours and history shows it is the US which has continually requested our assistance. Sorry, mate, I know your ego is dented when confronted with the actual truth and I know how important ego is to Americans but in the real world its important to get your facts from history and not from a television screen.

American would be the biggest loser if this was to occur.

Without America your country and its New Zealander ally would have lost the Battle of the Coral Sea. Without American leadership the Japanese would have come down the Buna Trail all the way to Port Moresby. Without America the Japanese would have repeated their aerial attack against Darwin. Without America your country would have become a member of the Greater East Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere.

You have no idea how things have changed in America. There are four traditional schools of thought in American foreign and defense policy. Isolationism is ascendant on both the left and right.

The greatest danger to the American people is the United States govt. Only a very small federal govt. will pose no threat to the liberty of Americans. Small govts. don't have the wherewithal to maintain large military establishments. A small federal govt. won't be sending elements of the Seventh Fleet into the SW Pacific. In fact, a small federal govt. won't have the funding necessary to have a Seventh Fleet. A small federal govt. won't be sending US Marines to bang Australian women in their off time.

The existing order in America is through. Something new is coming. No one knows for sure what it will be.

The world is in a transitional era between the American stage of Western Dominance to something else. My guess is that there will be much chaos along with the reemergence of spheres of influence. Australia and New Zealand will fall within the Chinese sphere of influence because they can't defend themselves.

America is turning inward. Obama's troop deal with Oz is like the last embers of a dying fire.

Well at least Americans are aware that the Japanese had a plan to invade Australia during WWII.

    Thanks for the link.

In February 1942, Japanese Admiral Yamamoto, who had planned the successful attack on Pearl Harbor, proposed an immediate invasion of Australia. ... However, the plan was opposed by Japanese Prime Minister, General Tojo.

As I said: Japan never had any plans to invade Australia

It is good to see you are a big enough man to admit when you're wrong.

"No historian of standing believes the Japanese had a plan to invade Australia, there is not a skerrick of evidence,"

Maybe you're right. Do you agree with me that America and Australia should have absolutely no defense relationship?

They can have some sort of "relationship" if they like. The guys that get off wearing the gay uniforms and playing soldiers probably enjoy their "relationships" - Village People In The Navy - style.

We don't need a pack of retards invading Darwin though - especially bring their illegal weapons with them:

The Cluster Munition Coalition says a Government bill which is before the Senate would allow the US military to store cluster bombs on Australian soil, despite the nation's official policy against the weapons.

That's not a serious answer. I favor complete termination of the defense relationship between Oz and America. No contact whatsoever between the two militaries. No military cooperation in R&D, production, not even goodwill visits. Total elimination of the defense relationship.

Unless you are willing to agree with that position you are a supporter of the US/Oz military relationship. That makes you part of the problem.

Actually, they did draw up plans to invade Australia. They never used the plans but they did exist.

Ok - I agree with you. No contact whatsoever between the two militaries. No military cooperation in R&D, production, not even goodwill visits. Total elimination of the defense relationship would be better than having an outpost of a fading Imperial power in Darwin.

I agree with (I think) it was Ian earlier that said there is more benefit for the Seppos in this than for us.

We are not afraid of China. The US is.

Fair enough...and the rationale for those plans - from your quote:

on the grounds that the United States was likely to use Australia as a base to launch a counter-offensive

The "relationship" is really not advantaging us at all.

Good Boy. I knew I could count on you. If America follows the policy of Isolation from the eastern hemisphere there is no need for America to fear the Han.

I am a Sinophile. I don't fear the Han. I even love one of them.
