Actually US unemployment is more like double that if we use the same criteria to measure it as we do here.

Aussie's and Americans are natural allies. I don't think we really need a base there, but so long as its revenue neutral, no big deal. Marines seem like a great match for Aussie's of Northern Australia.

 

Might I point out that Albert does not speak for all of the U.S.....I think when he says 'we', he is referring to his immediate family.

 

I speak for conservative Americans who have been paying attention to Australian attitudes toward American conservatives. There is a very strong streak of anti-Americanism in Australia. It is so strong that it truly makes an alliance with Oz unreliable. Besides, America's business is in America, not in the eastern hemisphere.

Most Australians reject the American right completely. Half of the people in the US are on the right. This has been the source of estrangement and alienation from Australians. We simply don't want further contact with them.

The entire Anglosphere is breaking up imo. While leftists like Jeff still love his co-ideologues in the Anglosphere, that is not the case on the American right. Too many Australians are anti-American for there to be any policy other than avoidance.

 

Jeff, with all due respect you are a leftist. The American left and right are in a form of figurative civil war. You may be a scholar and a gentleman, but you are my political enemy as well.

Thus, it is not surprising that you would make common cause with Australians who detest American conservatives. You have a common enemy.
