The Shah was the puppet of the US. The US admitted they made that coup.
Totally retarded to deny, what the US is admitting to.

Because Turkey and Saudi Arabia are traditional enemies of Iran since Iran is Shia, and they are Sunni. Paranoia runs deep in that part of the world. Besides they can use it as an excuse. The last thing I would want is to see is Turkey with nuclear weapons. Yesterday in Izmir some people took over the Greek consulate and demanded that the Greek islands be given to them - without its Greek inhabitants of course.

The people in Izmir are Kemalist and secular, so it has nothing to do with Erdogan, and everything to do with propaganda. They're cracking up over the territorial waters I guess and the lack of support they're getting in the UN - and believe me, it doesn't take a lot for the Turks to crack up.

Saddam wanted Iran to think he had nukes and in so doing he hanged himself. Saddam didn't want the world to find out he did not have nukes which is why he allowed limited access for UN inspectors into sites thought to have been used for making nukes. Clearly Saddam wasn't all that bright.

    1) you have provided no evidence for this claim
    2) Regardless of what Iran thought - or what Saddam said - we (as in the USA and every other major foreign intelligence service) knew Saddam did not have an active nuclear weapons program - never mind actually having a nuke as you are suggesting.

Saddam Hussein deliberately allowed the world to believe he had weapons of mass destruction but did not expect the United States to stage a major invasion and overthrow him, the former Iraqi dictator told an FBI interrogator, writes Ben Martin.

"For him, it was critical that he was seen as still the strong, defiant Saddam. He thought that would prevent the Iranians from reinvading Iraq," Mr Piro told 60 Minutes, the American current affairs television programme.

This is nonsense on many levels.

    1) some paid establishment liar - making some claim - years after the fact about what Saddam said while we were torturing him - is laughable.
    2) what part of "we knew Saddam did not have nukes" do you not understand ?

What "assisting"?.... they bribed the people to make a coup against... AN ELECTED and sovereign government. This is no time to think you can rewrite history, when the people who paid for it, admitted to it.

    FIRST OFF
It is The United States that by their "Preemptive First Strike Doctrine" their
threats, sanctions, regime changes and brute force coersion of other Nations
that is presently the main threat to .Human Civilization. It is America's clearly
stated goal of attempting to achieve 'Full Specrtum Domination' and 'Hegemony'
    ...............................................................................................that..holds the World Hostage.

    SECONDLY
You forget the damage a Nuclear exchange would have on - YOUR - countries
infrastructure. A few Nukes devoted to EMP's to perminantly destroy the GRID
A few large ground bursts, just to make things dirty. A few Hits on all of YOUR
..............major infrastructure like the Welland Canal and key distribution points.

Have you any Idea of the casualty estimates of such an exchange ? - YOUR
    windows
may still be intact, but it wouldn't be a week before you would be wishing
that you were DEAD. You don't have to Kill everyone during your attack. In a well
armed Nation fully dependent on their technology, such as The USofA the survivors
would soon be Killing each other. What ever resulting starvation & disease didn't get
............................................................................. YOUR neighbors AR15 would take care of

For all your Insane Bravado YOU would soon be reduced to a Psychotic Fear filled
    ...................................................................................................................... snibbling Parasite

    ..............................................................
If YOU survived - YOU would never recover -

The US made the world believe Saddam Hussein had WMD's.... with their BS stories of Iraq having mobile WMD factories driving around in trucks.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rationale_for_the_Iraq_War#U.N._inspections_before_the_invasion

On November 8, 2002, the U.N. Security Council passed Resolution 1441, giving Iraq "a final opportunity to comply with its disarmament obligations" including unrestricted inspections by the United Nations Monitoring, Verification and Inspection Commission (UNMOVIC) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Saddam Hussein accepted the resolution on November 13 and inspectors returned to Iraq under the direction of UNMOVIC chairman Hans Blix and IAEA Director General Mohamed ElBaradei. Between that time and the time of the invasion, the IAEA "found no evidence or plausible indication of the revival of a nuclear weapons programme in Iraq"; the IAEA concluded that certain items which could have been used in nuclear enrichment centrifuges, such as aluminum tubes, were in fact intended for other uses.[46] UNMOVIC "did not find evidence of the continuation or resumption of programmes of weapons of mass destruction" or significant quantities of proscribed items. Shortly before the invasion, UNMOVIC stated that it would take "months" to verify Iraqi compliance with resolution 1441.

It was the US who refused to wait for the UN to do their work, and with their lies, they started their pointless war. That makes the US responsible for the deaths of 100.000's of people for deliberately and without any authority throw the country into total chaos and failed to protect the civilian population when they invaded the nation.

People have given a death sentences for far lesser crimes.

Without question I would put it down as war preparation as it is if the US attacks Iran that its people will become at risk in the region. I was disappointment though not surprised last night to hear that the Brits are now saying they agree with US of the new dangers from Iran despite the immediate assessment from the military this was not so. You will also see they are shamelessly putting the blame for the 4 'sabotaged' boats on Iran.

    https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/20...arked-iran-loading-missiles-onto-small-boats/

I seriously hope this does not mean the UK is intending being involved in the destruction of Iran. Given the chaos that is the current political in the UK, a war abroad would be the usual distraction.

No, as others have said it is probably the one thing which would save them. I have not understood for years why they have not done this given the threats they have received. At one time Israel was even suggesting using nukes on them. The sad reality is that the bad behaviour of the countries with nukes has created a situation where the only way for a country to be safe is to have them - and I am anti nukes but that unfortunately is the situation which has been created by those with them.

sanctions kill. They are a stealth way of murder saving the oppressors own military and killing civilians not military. Over 40,000 civilians in Venezuela dead already by US sanctions of 2017

The far right don't believe there are any facts. The only 'truth' is their opinion.

The truth exists on its own. The General spoke the truth and everybody knows it.

The US government is a criminal and belligerent organization.

I thought Iraq started the war with Iran?

Saddam was Sunni. What I noticed is that the Sunnis are always in a position of authority even when they are not in the majority. I assume it's because they are militant. From what I gathered, and I may be wrong, is that the majority of the Arabs in Iraq are Shia like the Iranians. This means that Saddam must have been paranoid about Iran's influence over them.

In Syria the Sunnis are the majority, probably because of Assad's open door policy and allowing Iraqi's Sunnis to enter during the war. The Kurds escaping from Turkey are also Sunni so they added to the Sunni population as well. The combination though of Alawites, Shias, Christians and other minorities are more than the Sunnis, and their support has always been for the secular and all inclusive Assad government.

When the Sunnis in Syria realized that their protests were overtaken by jihadists from the Gulf, and they were going to impose sharia law they said the heck with that, and joined Assad's forces.

    Just my view on things.

The CIA payed him to make the coup, they paid him to hand over the natural resources of Iran.
That makes it, that he was a paid American stooge.

And btw,... he executed 10.000's of people who wanted a democratic Iran.
So much for the US for spreading "freedom and democracy".

We don't need a nuclear war for this, all we need is a major natural disaster and people will be killing one another especially on the east coast which has become dependent of California for just about everything. This by the way is what I hate about globalism, it has made people vulnerable and there is no reason for it. Homes and towns can have independence in electricity and their basic needs, but corporate profits are more important.

Sorry, I just want to rant here!

    Iran is a paradox

On one had they are among the smartest and brightest in the region

But its also an islamic mental institution

I dont know what would have happened if not for the coup

A secular democratic government would be just as offensive to the crazy mullahs as a modern secular kingdom

The US and britain were concerned that whats-his-name was drifting into the soviet orbit

But the shah and his supporters had their own reasons to want him gone

As for the death toll under the shah I doubt if the mad mullahs have killed less

    Still attempting to rewrite history...
The US and the UK did it for to drain their natural resources / oil.
The UK just had the habit on thieving other countries natural resources.
A cultural thing they did for 100's of years.

This took place after the Iran-Iraq war which led the US to believe Saddam had nuclear weapons.
