Seth Bullock, you are absolutely correct. Spoiled Americans are not even going to put up with shortages of toilet paper and bottled water.
Can you imagine how horrible it would be to have empty grocery stores, no gasoline at the gas stations, no medical care at the closed hospitals/clinics, roads and freeways closed down?
That is just a taste of the living conditions a real war would bring.
P.S. Also, the military would go door to door and collect all your guns; that's martial law.

 

Bombings and assassinations have happened in the past, committed by lone wolves, crazies, or tiny, unpopular groups.

That is just violent crime, and we deal with it using the criminal justice system.

While we will probably always have incidents of politically inspired violence, I would not call that a civil war, cold or otherwise.

 

And what if the civil war damaged your internet or cable service?

Americans are too soft to have a Civil War. Ask a few VietNam or Gulf War vets what war is REALLY like.
And, I'm glad that is the case. I like to eat regularly, take warm baths and sleep in a comfortable bed. A war would disrupt my quiet life.

By now the use of the internet means that the authorities already know who and where all of these bad actors are located and they will be on the lam from the moment they do their initial attack presuming they are not arrested while still in the process of planning their attack.

Law Enforcement knows nothing. I can promise you that they have incredibly little insight into encrypted internet comms. Communication is INCREDIBLY easy to hide. Even on mass scale. For good or for bad.

You are assuming that Law Enforcement is on the OUTSIDE and requires warrants to obtain access to internet communications.

A Law Enforcement individual infiltrated into those Extremist Rightwing Domestic Terrorist organizations would have access to those internet communications.

No amount of encryption is going to prevent that kind of intelligence operation by Law Enforcement.

I am a Geekasaur and predate the interwebs so while I appreciate the efforts that have gone into encryption of internet communications they are still susceptible to human involvement.



Those Domestic Terrorists are NOT the sharpest rocks on the chandelier to mix metaphors.

Furthermore they are being turned over to the authorities by algorithms that are used to flag the use of certain terms.

So I would not underestimate the abilities of Law Enforcement tasked with defending our nation from enemies, both foreign and domestic.

Yes, they are going to miss some of it but nothing is perfect.

but what BLM and Antifa have been doing over the past three years .....
(apparently significantly due to financing coming form people with a public agenda to destroy the USA Republican Party as well as President Donald J. Trump in particular)....... is the type of activity that could certainly get people worried about the situation escalating......


On the plus side.... the very concept of America getting into something of a Civil War has what could be termed "Artistic Value" that could potentially be worth millions..... perhaps even tens of millions.... maybe even hundreds of millions of USA petro-dollars..... over the coming years and even decades.....

An actual "war" is impossible. Its not 1861 when you just grab your musket off the mantelpiece. Apaches, F-16, and M1 tanks require lots of logistics... hundreds of thousands of spare parts... POL (petroleum/oil/lubricants)... and training (it takes an experienced helo pilot to even apply to be an Apache pilot, then two years of specialized training before qualified). All this and more means that WAR is impossible. But CHAOS? Yes, CHAOS is is possible, even probable. But it won't last long. It would soon come to end with invasions by China and Russia and maybe some Iranian nukes.

 

They are going to miss MOST of it. Not some of it. I work in the field, Cyber Security in particular.
