As @Thedimon said, they're scared of the Russians.

I don't see a likely circumstance in which Putin is in a red jumpsuit in cuffs before The Hague. That seems like a totally fanciful notion that, if it makes the Russians less likely to come to a deal, will just wind up accomplishing nothing but prolonging the war.

Agree. I hope they lose enough of that fear to act.

Once Putin is deposed, who knows? Depends on who takes over. They might be the sort to hand Putin over to face trial.

I don't know how any Conservative American could support any involvement whatsoever.

What is helping China is our response.

    Yeah .....mebbe....
well its maybe time for the gallic shrug option to come off the table. Biden/Stoltenberg gave Putin far too much certainty by repeatedly stating that NATO would not get offensively involved. Perhaps its time to change that narrative. Nothing should be off the table and that him and his mates are going to be responsible for their actions...West/NATO can't sit and be spectators....Russia's finished time to tell Putin.

What does our response have to do with it?

Uggghhhh. Russia is now selling it's oil to China at a discount. China is then selling it on the market at a significant mark up. The company Petro China is already the 3rd largest company in the world for Revenue. This is a disaster.
There is also a transition from the Petro dollar to the Yuan. Saudi Arabia just said they would accept it.
There is a massive shift happening in the global energy economy and China is reaping all the benefits.

    This just energy...

A disaster? Hardly. Who cares if China gets some cheap energy from Ulus of Jochi? It's not our national strategy to starve China of energy anyway, and they're not our enemy at this point either. We remain massively interdependent trade partners, and their current benefits from relatively cheap energy are not going to upset that or make them likely to risk sanctions or businesses pulling out voluntarily if they do something stupid such as support Ulus of Jochi's war effort.

As for the whole petro dollar thing, current events may have an accelerating effect, but there has long been a trend toward diversification in this regard anyway and this will happen regardless. It would be unwise to make it our policy to try and prevent the inevitable. All we can do is plan for it.

If China invaded Taiwan what would your response be? And yes, this whole thing is a disaster according to John Mearsheimer, and his credentials carry more water than Biden, Harris, and the same incompetent media that lied for the last six years. You can argue with anyone here, but you can't argue with Mearsheimer.

An argument from authority is no argument at all. You might as well be citing Larry Johnson the way Purbeyor was doing.

There are no signs of China building up invasion force.
    Relax.

Pearl didn't happen for over 2 years after the war started. China will move on Taiwan in the next 3 years... We will see how the media and shills respond after and if everyone here is so hawkish then.

I can't imagine they are very motivated to try and take it by force, either. Maybe it could happen if Xi goes full Putin at some point and really gets desperate to have some territorial conquest under his belt before retiring, but that seems highly unlikely.

I’m seeing news that France deployed its nuclear subs armed with nuclear weapons.

I wonder why both parties (and if nothing else, this war has united them) are all for giving Ukraine EVERYTHING in the way of weapons, material help, but no "boots on the ground"? I wonder if it's because all politicians figure that the dirty little secret is that if this escalates, which it would, the draft would have to be reinstated? Which would be suicide for whichever party first encouraged it.
