I'm unconcerned, because in my eyes liberal lunacy only affects those who espouse it, and only the lunatic fringe need concern themselves with that, and they as a group are offensive and insulting to me...
Definitely. But where conservatives often sees dire consequences looming if the dreaded either is favored over the apple pie or, liberals can be guilty of not operating within the world of practical consequence when a situation genuinely tends toward the binary.
glad you are enjoying it. i can say that is a big part of my presence here as well. i think it’s a mix of both. there are certain issues that seem to elicit more emotive responses than others. abortion, guns, and immigration recently seem to be topics that can quickly unravel into bitter slugfests. a pro choicer becomes a murderer, a 2nd amendment supporter wants to masturbate with his gun over a bible, immigration policy is driven solely by racism. strictly to give some examples. it seems these topics and others stimulate different parts of the brain? thank you for contributing to the thread.
Pretty much the same. Im also far more elloquent in writing. My lack of wit limits the effectiveness of my verbal/personal interaction, but given time to think prior to response, I can far more accurately make my points.
I've experienced some posters (other places, other times) who actually take a number of days and compose their responses in document format, then copy and paste it in on the reply, days later. And interestingly enough, they have pasted up the same reply at several political forums. I think better in movement. Not to say I haven't tripped over my shoe laces a time or two.
It’s fun, it’s educational. I always learn more from those I disagree with. I spend a lot of time observing, correcting, and repairing the damage caused by behavior of four legged animals. It’s nice to come here and be reminded two legged animals are worse. Mostly I just enjoy diversity of opinions and beliefs and this is a pretty good place to get that.
I'm here because in real life I don't know even one person with whom I can engage in intelligent and thought-provoking discussion. It's why I'm a loner and I like it this way. The thread reminds me of when I was taking a rest during one of my walking odysseys; some bloke sat down next to me ( lol) and started talking about football. When I nipped it in the bud by saying that I know nothing about football nor do I wish to, he literally couldn't believe it.
Part of me wants to persuade people. Another part of me just enjoys seeing dumb conservative opinions.
It depends ... right now it's Fri and I have some time to just relax, I like to read through the latest threads and some of the comments, some are funny others provide unique perspective. Other times I'm bored and will post for amusement Most days I like to log on in the morning and read the news with a cup of coffee... of course nothing annoys me more than arguments/debates that have circled round and round addressing the same issues and getting nowhere.... it drives me nuts ...obviously that's not why I'm here
Generic Political Forums that I've run across are pretty much dominated by Liberals. The Google Group I frequent, a remnant of the ABC Political Board, Political Euwetopia, is mostly Liberal posters and run by a Liberal. Euwe is uncharacteristically hands-off. Aside from me, there are two other conservative posters. This website is run by Liberals, some of whom are characteristically authoritarians. I haven't been spanked recently, so they must be on vacation. Then there are the echo chambers. Both sides have them, but again, they are more dominant on the Left with sites like Huffington Post, dKos, etc. The right has Townhall which I rarely visit. My experience is that Liberals are more prone to interacting with one another on the boards than Conservatives. They tend to team up ,,, aka bully ,,, people they disagree with. I guess it's part and parcel of their collectivist nature. I like this forum because it's easy to see when someone is addressing one of my posts or commenting on a thread that I expressed an interest in.
OK, I became rooted here thinking there are reasonable people who when shown how they are harmed by Government would take action to improve their government. But the mind of Democrats are made of concrete. They only see government as lousy if a republican is in office. I point out that it is the Democrats that crap all over us with their thousands of laws. Why do they brag they love making laws? They do not deny it. They will tell you they want the rich harmed. i say sure, the golden goose must be killed off. If you get my drift. And the way the rich are disrespected! If people who are the 47 percent woke up, they would thank the rich, not hate them. A favorite word theme for me is to point out that when we all go to the market, we are not charged for products after showing the store merchants how much we make. We pay a fixed fee unless there is a sale. But the idea the store should charge per your income would offend a lot of us. We would see the merchant as greedy. But when it comes to government, for them we make up excuses. High taxes are the enemy of all Americans. The draconian laws you pay no attention to will be paid attention to at a point in time. And then you will regret you let it happen to you. When I was growing up, you could deposit cash all you wanted to. Today you have the Feds snooping using the banks to do their spying on you.
can you share an example? i’ll go first... i think it’s a dumb liberal opinion that putting up a sign that says “gun free zone” will make anyone safer.
Is it politics that promotes enmity, or is it that politics are validated by varied but not necessarily totally universal beliefs that cause individuals to ally themselves in generic groups in a power-play, producing division that promotes enmity that often morphs into hate?
chicken v egg. the good news is politics has progressed from "convert to my religion or my soldiers will tear your limbs off and feed them to our dogs" to "you'd better hate this guy as much as me or i'll cut your head open with a steel bike lock."
