The Gita is a book I read often (Isherwood's translation, I think). It seems to me that I missed some fundamentlist gene: I don't think 'truth' is a thing humans are very good at, but they do say some interesting things when they get involved.

No it isn't. It violates everything we know about biology, life and physics. It is a belief established by myth and superstition to provide a false sense of security for people that are fundamentally insecure. Religion itself is about providing a false sense of security for insecure people. That's why mankind has created hundreds of different religions all of which are based upon myth and superstition.

If I knew who Vishnu was, I'd be indifferent to him, I wouldn't hate him.

India certainly has its share of doubters, as you might expect, but I am unaware of the Hindus making the kind of fuss over them that the Christians do.

Shiva said It violates everything we know about biology, life and physics. ;) Which is perfectly true. As for what we don't know, do you think religious people are right insist that they understand what lies beyond what is known scientifically? And they claim to know it by some magical pathway because they're gullible- er, faithful.

im not saying theyre right or wrong. i'm saying rebirth could be true and physics does not disprove it.

True, but I don't think anyone was talking about disproving religious claims. It was more about current knowledge of physics not supporting religious claims, by how it was worded. An unsupported claim must reasonably be rejected until it is supported, if indeed that ever happens.

Hinduism is absolutely retarded. Hinduism is the reason that India is drenched in poverty and 100s of years behind America.

yeah, it was about disproving by the claim that it goes against everything known about physics. that means little because we know so little about physics. and I don't reject the claim of dark matter and dark energy altho it has never been seen or proven. you can if u like.
