So do you have to buy the book to get some sort of credible information?? (red flag, red flag) Or is there something online?
US $7.00 a gallon? We pay NZ$3.54 per litre, there are 4 litres to a gallon (imperial) so NZ$14.00 per gallon here (that's $US 11.57.)
I think we need to end farm subsidies on general principle. Giving money to agricorporations that don't even need the money is just stupid.
Well, they did. Most farming is already corporate. Small farmers are a pretty small chunk of the market, which is why the subsidies are irrelevant anyway.
The food pyramid is an absolute abomination. Ever wonder why the obesity rates over the last 40 years have skyrocketed? Coincides with the food pyramid being trotted out by the government in the 1970s. Human bodies have a problem handling carbohydrates and sugar. For millenia human bodies burned fat and protein for their energy. Carbohydrates, especially enriched grains, as well as sugar-based entities subplant proteins and fats as the primary energy source. What happens is that proteins end up getting discarded, while your body packs on the fat that simply isn't being burned as a fuel source. The carbs and sugars flood your bloodstream which triggers your body to produce insulin. So year after year you body stores the fat while it burns the easy fuels. As far as milk goes, it isn't the fat killing you. It's the sugars. This is why people who use a low-carb lifestyle can eat butter and use cream and cheese with no ill effects.
Farmers are some of the biggest welfare recipients in the country, let's end all the farming subsidies now !
Coconut oil is also loaded with ketones which are phenomenal for inducing a high metabolism. Also, as you age your cells start developing a resistance to glucose. Ketones can perform the functions of glucose and aren't shunted by the cells. Lack of glucose penetration can result in Alzheimers.
We still need calcium. You can only get so much from a pill. Milk provides the necessary bulwark against brittle bones and the vitamin D helps against cancer, promotes cell growth, etc.
The good news is that when you become a vegan, your arteries start to clear! Conditions like angina disappear!
Chicken Little? Hotdogs, eggs, butter. It seems the round-robin of foods that we are told will kill us end up being fabrications by so-called scientists to sell books. The problem with the American diet resides in the process of food production. Our food producers put scads of pollutants into our bodies because they trigger great taste, endorphins and instant energy. Although they can get you through the day, over time they lead to obesity and disease. Most foods in what I call the "center aisles" need to be avoided completely. On the edges of grocery stores is where you find the vegetables, good dairy products, meats, fruit, etc. Only reason to venture into the center aisles is for trash bags, toothpaste etc. If it is edible and in the center, avoid it. Most processed foods, especially diet food, are nutrient deficient. Diets are near impossible to continue because they either force you to eat less, taste like crap or simply do not work because you fall off of them because they leave you unsatisfied.
You need to follow some guidelines when becoming a vegan. A small amount of supplementation is recommended, none of it involves animal products.
I agree that the food pyramid was a bad thing. But all animal products, including dairy, are unhealthy. The three books I cited say nothing about milk sugars. The villains are both animal fat and animal protein.
The books I cited weren't written by quacks. They were written by, or recommended by, the country's leading nutritionists. Do yourself a favor and read them. Start with THE CHINA STUDY by Thomas M. Campbell II, MD and T. Colin Campbell, PhD
Honestly if you get down to it, the healthiest lifestyle and diet is that of our ancestors 25,000 years ago. Scientific and medical studies essentially boil down to that. "Unfortunately" unless your willing to live as a hermit in the amazon, that lifestyle is impossible today. Personally I like my majority meat and potatoes diet even if it is unhealthy . I will live longer than any of my ancestors, no matter how healthy they were, just because I use clean water and have anti-biotics. I work out to so its not like I have a bad diet and a sedentary lifestyle.
Then he is spoiled. Sorry but thats the facts. I grew up on a farm, we had cows and we milked them. The only milk we had in the fridge was for cooking. we made our own butter with the cream but that was it. I haven't drank milk in over 40 years. You don't need milk.
Milk? Soy milk is great! HMMMMMM? I also prescribe to the ancient diet and I am trying to get to it. Chick Peas, Lentil, chicken, fish... in smaller portions. Mango is my new favorite fruit and I actually had lemon and pepper pan fried (extra virgin olive oil) fish today with a mango, fresh squeezed lemon and lime topping. People lived into their 80s hundreds of years ago with no medicine or modern doctors. Hell people these days need to kick the medicine and get back to reality and just expire like we did before.
I remember Jack LaLanne, the health guru, who lived to be 90-something always saying 'anything white isn't healthy' - like milk, white bread, etc..... When my kids were little and I mean little, their pediatrician told me to take them off whole milk and buy 2%, saying 'no one needs that extra fat, not even kids' so I did and they grew up healthy w/no weight problems.... But one of my daughters has been doing a lot of deep researching into foods and she read about what they put in milk to 'homogenize' or 'pasteurize' it. It shocked her and after her husband head it, they switched to organic milk - coconut and almond milk..... which I buy sometimes myself. It's good, but anything organic is more expensive....
Pure/virgin coconut oil has many health benefits. Put a spoon of it in your son's oatmeal w/real honey, real cinnamon w/a splash of coconut milk....
That's true. Many people can't seem to understand the importance of their cholesterol level. Someone had told me her's was around 400 and I just about fell over when she said that. Her dr demanded she get in and get cholesterol pills b/f she fell over w/a heart attack.... Avacados, pomegrande and oatmeal are 3 great foods for lowering cholesterol........
Good post and very true.... As far as margarine goes - you can put a tub of margarine outside and not even the bugs will eat it b/c it's not food..... it's CRAP w/even plastics in it..... And white sugar is a killer. If you have to sweeten something, use honey - it's a natural food.
All depends on the person.... I have a friend who's a strict vegan. She won't even sniff meat, let alone eat it and she's been one for yrs. I was shocked when she told me she has high cholesterol and was put on meds........
