DALLAS – A 14-year-old Muslim boy who was arrested after a homemade clock he brought to school was mistaken for a possible bomb will be moving with his family to the Middle East so he can attend school there, his family said Tuesday.

Ahmed Mohamed's family released a statement saying they had accepted a foundation's offer to pay for his high school and college in Doha, Qatar. He recently visited the country as part of a whirlwind month that included a Monday stop at the White House and an appearance Tuesday at the US Capitol.

"We are going to move to a place where my kids can study and learn, and all of them being accepted by that country," Ahmed's father, Mohamed Elhassan Mohamed, told The Dallas Morning News before boarding an airplane from Washington back home to Texas on Tuesday.

Ahmed, who along with his family will relocate to Qatar, received a full scholarship for his secondary and undergraduate education. Ahmed said he was impressed with the program and thinks he'll "learn a lot and have fun, too."

Ahmed took a homemade clock to his high school to show a teacher, but another teacher thought it could be a bomb. The school contacted police, who handcuffed the boy and took him to a detention center. The school suspended him for three days.

A police photo of the device shows a carrying case containing a circuit board and power supply wired to a digital display. Police ultimately chose not to charge Ahmed with having a hoax bomb, and the police chief has said there was no evidence the teen meant to cause alarm. His parents later withdrew him from the school.

But in recent weeks, the teenager has been traveling the world. Ahmed earlier this week told The Associated Press that he had visited Google and Facebook, along with other companies and institutions. He also visited with the president of Sudan, Omar al-Bashir, which prompted criticism because al-Bashir is wanted by International Criminal Court on charges of genocide and war crimes for atrocities linked to the Darfur fighting. Ahmed's father is a Sudanese immigrant to the U.S. and a former presidential candidate in Sudan who ran opposing al-Bashir.

Before attending "Astronomy Night" at the White House on Monday, where he chatted briefly with President Barack Obama, Ahmed said he was grateful. He said the lesson of his experience is: "Don't judge a person by the way they look. Always judge them by their heart."

On Tuesday at the U.S. Capitol, Ahmed stood alongside Rep. Mike Honda, D-Calif., who praised the teen, saying Ahmed had used his negative experience to raise awareness about racial and ethnic profiling. Honda and more than two dozen other congressmen sent a letter to Attorney General Loretta Lynch last month calling on the Department of Justice to investigate Ahmed's detention and arrest.

So, Qatar will provide better learning opportunities and more fun for Ahmed, eh?

OK well, there's been a fair amount of treads about the clock boy, but I feel, another one is warrantied. Was not Ahmed complained about disenfranchisement? He no longer will have to worry about that. But:

What do we know about Qatar? It's an Islamist country with state religion where all non - Muslims are dhimmi and second class citizens. There's no freedom of speech, no dissent possible, terrorists are State heroes and non-Muslims are enslaved.

Did not Qatar welcomed five Taliban generals, generously released by Obama into the wild?

Good move Ahmed, we're all proud of you. Does anyone still think, poor clock boy is traumatized by this experience? :wall:

Well, this seems to have worked out well for everyone. Clockmed gets a free ride through school, SJW's had a good time, and the nation is now a bit less multicultural. Now, if only Mexico and nations further south would do the same as Qatar has done.

    Sister makes terristic threats.
    Dad spews anti American rhetoric.
    Ahmed makes a hoax bomb.
Family visits the terror theme park in Darfur meets the butcher, the Walt Disney of the Muslim world.

Family wins the lotto and moves to a fundamental theocracy.

In the meem that a Leppard doesn't change its spots, the teachers, school administration, police etc have been proved 100% correct in their actions.

I feel for the girls and ladies in the family.

    Cheers

All I have to say is good riddance..

That family has had a history with being activists, perhaps the father is going to try to run for president of Qatar?

Perhaps if I take my laptop out of it's plastic casing and make it look like a bomb in a briefcase I will get an invite to have a beer with Obama?

Screw clocks, having a laptop that looks like a bomb would be pretty interesting..

If he does, he'll be expeditiously beheaded. Teh Emir of Qatar will not stand for this kind of foolishness, being father of terrorist in training notwithstanding.

Like someone mockingly said, this was the "best case possible" for us to get rid of potential threats to America while the Social Left gets to cry about more "injustice" in keeping the US safe from these butchers of evil. Why would we want any imports from the Islamic theocracy? So we can experience their "jihad" at first hand? Like we did 14 years ago? Thanks, but no thanks. Good riddance to this so-called family, one bad element removed from our "melting pot".

It's not a pot with good food if you add crappy ingredients to it.

But but... Did not Obama just praised Ahmed, predicted great future for him in America and said if he had a son he'd be just like him? Or, was Obama mistaken?

Qatar's educational institutuions are very progressive. There are some 330 plus international educational institutions located in that country with some of the top Western Universities located there such as Texas A&M, Cambridge, and University of Calgary, among others.

Maybe he should adopt a boy if he really wants one.(No, seriously, no matter what I think of President Turd's policies, it would actually be great to be adopted in a political family and learn from them). It would be one of his few acts of grace since becoming a politician lol.

Collar me not socked that this is happening. We lost today because of biogts and Nationalism thanks guys for the reactions

I see a different outcome. Ahmed is a useful tool, partially indoctrinated, not too bright and ripe for radicalization. A few years at Qatar's MIT, Muslim Institute of Terrorism, and with his US passport he will return.

Qatar is not a fundamental theocracy. It is an absolute monarchy, similar to England prior to the English Civil War.

That's why you strip the passport from them. Oh wait, I forgot, this administration doesn't have the balls. :wall:

You're right, this could be another Boston Marathon-style event if we're not careful.

Ehm ... and you know that UN resolutions against ISIS are not accepted by Qatar and that it is not forbidden to support ISIS, for example to make a public fundraising for ISIS?
You know that Qatar Air Force C-130 Hercules delivered weapons to Jihadists in Libya openly?

Probably for the same reason that so many blacks moved north from the south.

You're welcome. What's our "loss" can become their gain and considering that the Muslim World hasn't done much circa 1500's, they need all the help they can get. I think our own American kids can become great scientists. Don't you?

Question; Will Obama be having a send-off party for clockmed & his deranged family at the WH? You know, kinda rub it in the face of American's. I mean, it only seems natural Obama would want to do something along that line.

From God's lips to the Emir's ear to the Hoi-poloi. The Al Thani family is God in Qatar and sharia is the theocratic model.

Yes. Also, Qatar is famous for dissent prosecution, freedom of speech non-existence and foreign workers enslavement. Hey, how about harboring and supporting terrorism?

Yes, politics and war make strange bedfellows don't they? Yes, they sent supplies to groups who were fighting ISIS but were also labeled as Jihadists by some far right wing conservatives who think every Muslim is a jihadist.

The most celebrated genius boy in America slaps Obama in the face and ships out to theocratic sharia country, openly supporting terrorism? Can you insult his supporters more that that?

You pretty much have no clue what you are talking about. Yes, it is an absolute monarchy where the Emir has the sole power to remove anyone from office for whatever reason. It has Sharia Law, but that law is primarily codified in family court and some criminal law, but not all criminal law. The fact that sharia law exists does not mean it is a theacracy just as most western laws are based on the principles of the Ten Commandments with christian motiffs within them.
