I work with middle school kids. They make "terroristic threats" all the time. I generally don't take them seriously. And I never said I thought Ahmed was a bright young adolescent.

The police investigation disagrees with you, though, and once that was clear, anything less than a full apology and admission of an overreaction should be unacceptable to this family, but that didn't happen. Instead local politicians and right-wing pundits doubled down on the ant-Islamic rhetoric.

I don't blame them for leaving.
