If I were a French Leftist, I'd scold him, and swat his hand with a ruler, then let him go.

Sounds like an enemy combatant, saboteurs caught in civilian clothing behind the lines are summarily executed.

George John Dasch and the Nazi Saboteurs

Shortly after midnight on the morning of June 13, 1942, four men landed on a beach near Amagansett, Long Island, New York from a German submarine, clad in German uniforms and bringing ashore enough explosives, primers, and incendiaries to support an expected two-year career in the sabotage of American defense-related production. On June 17, 1942, a similar group landed on Ponte Vedra Beach, near Jacksonville, Florida, equipped for a similar career in industrial disruption.

The purpose of the invasions was to strike a major blow for Germany by bringing the violence of war to our home ground through destruction of America’s ability to manufacture vital equipment and supplies and transport them to the battlegrounds of Europe; to strike fear into the American civilian population; and to diminish the resolve of the United States to overcome our enemies.

By June 27, 1942, all eight saboteurs had been arrested without having accomplished one act of destruction. Tried before a military commission, they were found guilty. One was sentenced to life imprisonment, another to 30vyears, and six received the death penalty, which was carried out within a few days.

See, here's the thing: That assumes as a fascist, I would have had the same exact views as say Hitler or Mussolini. So as not to cheat, I will admit that if I were born at the time, I might've seen the same things they did. Emphasis on "might have". So sure, if they see me as this humanistic threat I suppose so.

In reality, my views differ from theirs in the important categories. Namely, that I see humanism as an essential principle to the State and without mercy, no real power can actually exist in the long run. That said, I'll also say this: It was possible to negotiate with the AXIS(just like the Communist bloc), we mostly didn't want to out of ideological opposition, as well as heavy mistrust from breaking other pacts already.

So let me ask this: Is it possible to negotiate with these terrorists? No. We've learned that over eight years. Negotiating with them legitimizes them, and negotiating with them non-coincidentally seems to lead to them ALWAYS, always getting the better end of the "bargain". After all of the death and destruction of the last three years, do you really think I trust the terrorists?(Just like FDR would never trust the AXIS after Poland.)

No, the terrorists have one stated goal: To make the West convert, or die. And we, the West should have one stated goal: To live, and to preserve Western traditions. We've gotten past the point of possible negotiations. We tried, we elected this president TO try. It really isn't our fault Que.

The only way we could bend our asses even more to them, would be to elect a Libertarian(which by all means rejects the use of force, even for self defensive purposes.)

what if the police accidentally shot the wrong guy because the policy was "shoot on sight" rather than attempt to arrest and put on trial and convicted, and then as a treasonous measure, sentence him to death by firing squad after conviction and appeals... but instead they just shot someone charging into an apartment, and turns out, they turned left instead of right in the hallways and took down the wrong door and shot the wrong guy... who was a family man and father of three... what then?

let me guess, you'll say, they can't shoot to kill until they identify him and know its him... well lot of people look alike sometimes, and the guy they shot had a beard, the guy in the picture had a beard, the guy looked the same with the nose, it was just mistaken identity, should the police not be held accountable for their actions and disregard for law... hey look, if you want a "shoot on sight" justice, pass a law first, making it the law, so every citizen can be on notice to duck and surrender when they see police...

this is one stupid idea... no offense, well, actually, offense intended...

You got to first determine that the ones being accused are in fact a part of said plot

I no longer believe we need the justice system, as we are in fact in an active war zone around the world. If we can trace an IP to attempts of building a bomb, that's already evidence enough for an arrest. It's about time to STOP getting in our own way, when it comes to security.

We could of course, experience more Orlandos until and when this point finally kicks in. It's either us or them, and I prefer us. Even if you're a Libertarian, or conservative, or whatever. You're a part of the same team. So to keep you and me safe, I want our government to act preemptively.

    Really an IP?

You realize how uncommon it is for hackers to use someone else's IP? say someone got your wifi password (which is often pretty easy considering a lot of people use their phone number as their password) that person then has access to browsing the web under your IP.

but hey, lets not give you a day in court to show you are not guilty

And how many jihadists do you think are hackers? Seriously. Am I the only one here witnessing that our "rule of law" has been a MAJOR handicap on the war on terror? There's no argument for it, besides the whole "we wanna make sure they're innocent" thing. Well, this is a war. This is not a place for judges and defense attorneys, etc.

This is a time for decisive action in order to thwart assaults against civilian populations(if you also haven't realized, terror attacks are predominately concentrated on civilian populations).

I didn't say that. I said that the original number was way higher than the reality. I will never understand why so many on the left make up numbers when the real ones might serve them better and would keep people who know the issue from discounting their argument out of hand, for why pay attention to an argument when the bits one can prove are simply made up?

Actually everyone in the world funds the terrorists in one way or the other. Reagan funded the Taliban. McCain funded ISIS. Congress is funding the Syrian terrorists because it wants them to remove Assad. Turkey funds ISIS by being its middleman and supplier. Muslims around the world fund the terrorists when they give money to the mosques that send some of it to various terrorist organizations. Wealthy Gulf State Arabs contribute. Israel funds its favorite groups. Europeans and the Russians and Americans and Chinese sell or give them arms and ammo. Everyone is guilty.

The West and Russia have almost destroyed Syria. Why wouldn't those people in the Middle East war zones want to take revenge for all the death and destruction they have suffered? We are in a war. We kill people everyday. Don't act all outraged when one or two take it upon themselves to kill a few of us once in a while. That's the definition of war.

There will always be someone with a grudge who will be willing to die in an act of revenge. Such a person doesn't require funding or an organization. There's no way to stop it because no one knows who the person is or what he will do or when he will do it.

It's fortunate that that the guy didn't have the truck rigged out as a giant car bomb or else he could have killed thousands and blown the city up. I think it will happen sooner or later somewhere in Europe. The cops should be able to trace the grenades and other arms back to their sources. Maybe they came from a French military base?

The perpetrator was mentally unstable and he recently went through a divorce. He was previously arrested for a road rage incident but he wasn't on the watch list for potential terrorists. People in Nice are now speculating that the incident had nothing to do with ISIS and it was an extreme case of road rage committed by a truck driver with criminal records.

Maybe he was upset that the people were in the street blocking his way? I've seen a lot of comments on this forum where posters have written that they would gladly run over people who blocked the highways. Maybe he had read some of those comments and felt that it was OK to run over the people because so many other people have said that's what they will do?

Are you serious right now? There are several jihadist hackers, ISIS even launched their own cyber war magazine informing their followers how to serve ISIS through cyber warfare. More than this, getting access to someone's IP address is not a difficult thing to do. Some people don't know to put a password lock on their signal, and many people use their phone number as their password. It doesn't take a computer genius to gain access to someone else's IP address

Furthermore, if you have evidence against an individual, then due process won't be a problem in prosecuting that individual, it is only a problem when you do not have sufficient evidence. I should also note that nations that have overruled due process do not have a lower rate of terrorist attacks.

Then we need to do something. Because what's been done, clearly isn't working. More of the same, isn't an answer for many people. Myself included. Because am I afraid? Hell yes. Anyone can attack an American(myself included), at any time and we wouldn't know it, until it's too late. A war on civilian populations is the most cowardly, evil type of warfare. And we have to deal with the logistics of that.

I don't know how to put a "password lock on a signal." I don't even know what that would mean. Perhaps you are referring to encrypting your web traffic via https. But that is done automatically using random passwords exchanged between you and the website using the magic of public key encryption. Https long a flaw known as the heartbleed bug introduced by a sloppy coder. But it is thought to be secure today.

The easiest way to get someone's IP address would be to lure them to a website.

The best way to conceal your IP is to use a VPN. My VPN keeps no logs, so even a law enforcement agency could not discover my IP address with a court order. But I am relying on the integrity of the VPN to do what they promise.

There are free VPNs, but their performance is poor.

If you don't want to rely on a VPN's integrity, there is always TOR which is free and performs better than the free VPNs. You can even set up a web site that is impossible to trace, although the FBI has cracked this when the web site maintainer misconfigured his server. The NSA is rumored to be able to crack TOR given enough traffic.

I should note that since the war on terror began there have been over 150,000 people murdered in the US, out of which around 400 were linked to terrorism, and fewer than 100 linked to Islamic terrorism (More Americans die from bathtub and shower accidents than from terrorist attacks). Should we take precautions to prevent terrorism? Sure, but we also should not be so willing to sacrifice our liberties in the name of security, especially over something that is far from being the #1 risk to American lives.

Oh I'm talking about the simplest case of someone accessing your wireless router (assuming you have one) without your permission, and I mention this specifically because it is a super common thing. There have actually been incidents of people getting in trouble for child pornography because they did not know to put a password on their wifi signal. Someone else uses their wireless signal, and then the authorities trace the IP address back to their house

No, to save all our skins. I ask the question again - why would you worry about the rights of someone who'd drive a 7-ton truck at you and hundreds of fellow pedestrians, including kids, at 50mph? Well I know why really, it's because you're a liberal and totally incapable of seeing the bigger picture, as are all liberals. 'RiaRaeb' strange name for a strange person.

None of that can be done, much though it would go some way to resolving the problem. As I understand it, there are two failings: the first is the malaise of the French authorities, and secondly the absence of exchanging intelligence information between the other 26 member countries of the EU. The plain fact is that nobody can be bothered to counter the threat. This is what bureaucrats do - what needs to be done they leave to other bureaucrats.

No to save your skin, you are prepared to give up the rule of law. It makes me sick how easily these cowardly pretend patriots are prepared to give up our rights, of course if their really was a real threat to their country, like the quislings they are they would bend and suck for allah at the first opportunity. Imagine being such a coward that you are scared to report things to the police happening in your local village but want those police to shoot people on the spot.
