Setting aside for a moment the utter stupidity and ineffectiveness of this #1 harebrained idea from our illustrious Tweeter-In-Chief, I have a couple questions:

    1. Isn't Mexico supposed to pay for this wall? Funding this idiotic wall shouldn't even be in our own budgetary discussions - the funding is supposed to come from Mexico. Granted, Trump lies about absolutely everything, including the reasons for wanting to build a wall, but backtracking on this particular lie makes him look especially weak and impotent. Strange that a blowhard so obsessed with the image of "winning" would make a move that screams LOSER so loudly.

    2. Why is the nimrod who has taken the Oval Office hostage making this about Democrats? His party controls both houses of Congress. It shouldn't matter if Democrats oppose his budget. Is Mr. "Dealmaker" telling us he can't even strike a deal within his own party? How pathetic is this guy? The American people unwittingly set him up with the easiest government to run and he can't even pass a budget? The incompetence of this man is astonishing.

The total lack of responsibility/blamelessness of this "administration" is of unseen proportions......the incompetence is of epic proportion. So, he has to give his "army" of turd polishers something to spin/polish.

I agree with your assertion that Trump's incompetency is "astonishing".

Sadly, for the USA (and the civilized World):

    Trump's incompetency is also INFINITE.

INFINITE and should be of great concern to any constitutionalist. Turkey sadly comes to mind as a most recent bad example of their likely future.

You can tell that Trump is going even further off the deep end. His Twitter rants have been epic. Did you see his AP interview? Geesh, what a cluster$^&#

    https://apnews.com/c810d7de280a47e88848b0ac74690c83

Labeling China as a currency manipulator was one of the planks of his vapid platform.

Still claims responsibility of reducing the costs of the F-35s...

And spends A LOT of time outright whining as usual.

In time I believe Mexico will pay for the wall through fees, tariffs or other means. Why would any American be against the wall?
    1. Do you want more drugs coming into our country and watch our youth and others die from overdoses?
    2. Do you want more criminals from other countries coming in through our southern border and committing crimes?
    3. Do you want to pay higher health care costs so illegals can come into our country and have children?
    4. Do you want to pay higher taxes to support illegals on welfare?
    5. Do you want to see companies lay off Americans and hire illegals at lower wages?
    6. Do you want to have your children's education degraded by higher costs and overcrowded with illegals.
    7. Do you want to see more Americans killed by illegal drivers?
    8. Do you want to see wages depressed in some areas due to a large influx of illegals?
    9. Do you want to see illegals be given preference over legal immigrants for visas?
    10. Do you want to see illegals be given preference over Americans in our court systems.

Read your Constitution. The President does not make law. The fault does lie with Congress if things fail. Not passing some laws is not always a bad thing. The less government, the better, for all of us. Just because one party has the majority in each house does not mean they have the necessary votes to pass a bill or resolution. It's easier in the House but much harder in the Senate.

What matters here is that Mexico were supposed to pay for it.
Americans voted for a FREE wall, they did not vote to pay for a wall... He has no mandate to ask them to pay for it now.

Why would Americans be against the wall?
Well, maybe because it's going to require stealing land from American citizens to build it
Maybe because Mexicans know how to build tunnels and drive boats.
Maybe because there's this invention called ladders.
Maybe because environmentalists are going to tie it up in court for years.
Maybe because Mexico is one of our largest trading partners.
Maybe because one million Americans work in Mexico for American companies.
The list of "why not to" is extensive.

How can you pay for something if it's free? It still may get built. I for one am willing to donate to a "build the wall fund" so it is not a drag on the taxpayer. It could also be done with Bonds. Build the wall and charge a toll, tariff, tax barrel's of oil etc. The more important thing is to build the wall.

Does it really make sense to build a wall and cut funding for the Coast Guard as Trump has done? What do you think the whole Syrian to Greece immigration was about? Do you think Mexicans don't know how to navigate a boat? The wall is just a waste of time and money. Better answer would be 9 month work visas paid for by employers.

    1. American citizens will be compensated for any land.
    2. Americans know how to blow up tunnels and seal them. We also have boats. Not an excuse
    3. Americans will have the means to apprehend those that try. Maybe not all, but most. Not an excuse.
    4. American national security trumps environmentalists.
    5. America and Mexico will continue trading. Not an excuse.
    6. American companies can still get worker visas. Americans can do the jobs.

There are more efficient, less costly and less ugly ways to secure the border. A wall doesn't keep people out. However high the wall is, the ladder manufacturer's will ensure that they have a ladder for sale that's at least three feet higher.

We need to invest in drones.

30 years of sitting on their asses and not securing our border has put our country in the situation it is in now. Build the wall. Legal immigration and legal visas are fine. Illegal not.

I've asked before and never get an answer.

How does my paying more for an avocado or beer translate to Mexico paying for the wall?

I think the important thing was to get Mexico to pay for it.
If he intends a toll or tariff or whatever paid by Mexicans, he should put that in the proposal before asking Americans to fund it.
Then it can be assessed for feasiblity and the consequences to the economy can be determined.

Most people here illegally are on an expired visa. How's a wall going to fix that?

Drones will work in some case. In some areas the wall won't work. Use all the tech one can get but secure our border is the bottom line.

Tariffs increase prices for the consumer; not the country sending the goods. You and I will be paying for the wall everytime we buy something from Mexico.

I am in favor of securing the border. I'm not in favor of a yuge wall. We can't afford it.

Yo, are you talking about the wall Obama and Clinton voted to authorize when they were senators?

Indeed and good point, precisely why that should be put forward for public scrutiny if that is the plan.

When we deport them and they come back in a second time it will be a felony. A wall is just a deterrent.

Securing the border is important, but the best way to prevent unauthorised immigration is to eliminate the economic incentives. Noone should be allowed to hire an undocumented immigrant. Why is the law so lacklustre about this?

Having said that, the USA is one of the few countries with such a stark economic gradient on its land border. This border security is not an issue of preference but essential to the ongoing functioning of the country. It must be held secure and a physical wall may indeed be the most effective means to do that, at least as a first line of defence.
