If it's in the news it must be correct, huh? My view of the world is a bit more complicated.

Leave aside the Syrian elections. There have been polls in Syria, including within rebel held areas, by western firms which if anything have tried to make sure there are plenty of questions that would skew the polls in an anti-Assad direction. But the overall picture from those polls, including numbers from areas held by terrorist groups who are far more prone to do the things you imagine Assad is doing, and taken at a time when Assad's future was quite in doubt, still showed how Assad (and Iran) more popular than those fighting them.

Iran, a largely Persian, Shia, state, both buzz words that often trigger prejudice within Arab Sunnis, getting more favorable ratings in Syria than those who support the opposition, including Arab Sunni states, is as telling as anything anyone can spin about what side the majority in Syria support.

You do realize that according to a Princeton study we are not a democracy? We are an oligarchy. If you cannot find it anymore on the internet, don't blame me, blame our globalist control freaks. Tyranny is alive and well in the US... as I'm sure you have noticed. Berkeley comes to mind.

Anyway what is good for the goose, is not good for the gander. Even if our intentions towards other nations were not self serving, it would still give us no more right to impose a liberal form of democracy on them, than imposing a Salafist government in Syria to please Saudi Arabia. This is what we have been trying to do, and this is what the Syrian people are fighting against.

Nothing you just said contradicts any point I made.

As for reading a history book, you should probably follow your own advice. Because there were numerous incidents where both sides almost launched nuclear weapons at one another during the cold war.

Escalating in Syria creates the same kind of risk, i.e., human or computer ERROR.

And for what? To protect a bunch of "rebels" who want to destroy secular Syria and turn it into a Caliphate? That's why you're risking a war with Russia?

What? No, we don't care who the **** runs that backwater country. Whoever the leader is, we will assume is an evil doer with jihadist intentions.

We are there because a major ****ing city has fallen to ISIS, and the world is on fire from their various deeds. Never before in history have terrorist groups had millions of dollars, tanks, and jets and **** dude. This ISIS thing...it's kind of a big deal. Who leads Syria, is NOT a big deal.

You have no clue what the US government is doing in Syria. You think they're there to "fight terrorism", but that is just lies and propaganda, like "weapons of mass destruction" in Iraq. Some Americans will believe anything the government tells them. It's amazing.

Stop saying "we" like you speak for America. You speak for yourself.

And YOU don't know the first thing about the Assad government, clearly, because nobody with a clue would "assume" he had "Jihadist intentions". Assad's government is SECULAR, which means they're fighting AGAINST the Jihadists.

The only reason ISIS managed to gain a foothold in Syria is because the US government destabilized Iraq and fomented rebellions in Syria. Just like they did in Iraq and Libya, the US government created a power vacuum that was filled by terrorists. You really have NO IDEA what's happening in Syria. You just believe whatever the government and the corporate media tell you.

No, it's not "whatever". The US government is lying about Syria, just like they lied about Iraq, Libya, and Russia. They lie about everything, all the time. And yet some Americans still trust them.

If the US government were really about "fighting terrorism" in Syria, they'd be working WITH Putin and Assad, not against them. Assad's government represents SECULAR and PLURALIST Syria. Here is what a pro-Assad rally looks like...

Are you noticing a pattern? If not, let me point it out to you. These pro-Assad rallies are full of WOMEN in western-style dress. They are allowed to get educated, to have jobs, to hold positions in government, to vote, and to do virtually all the same things men do. THIS is what the US government is trying to destroy in Syria.

I see the above poll was taken in Dec. 2015. How many of those people are still alive?

I know Syrians who had moved back and were raving about how lovely Syria had become under Assad. That was before certain nations conspired to destroy it for their own self interests.

The following should be of interest. Mind you these same rebels are the ones committing genocide on Christians... but of course the MSM never mentions it:

I suspect the answers depend on where you live, I sure doubt anyone under the thumb of Isis would say living under anyone else was better (likewise for the rest of them).

What if I told you I was born and raised in Tehran and moved to Ankara when I was 12, finished middle and high schools there, went to one of the best colleges of Turkiye and graduated with a BA in politics then went to London for masters, then got back to Turkiye and started to live in İstanbul since 2002 and having a 3 in 1 kind of a job where I translate teach and analyze data for Turkish government?

    Would you cry?

Are you saying these people are celebrating Assad's election victory because there are guns on their backs? I think you people better get your nose out of the propaganda networks.
