Studies cited here show that to be conservative one has to be more fearful about the world in general than Liberals are.

This is why Republicans like Trump use fear as a motivator in their campaigns.

It would be interesting to extend this study to the military because it also appears that Republican leaders are less likely to join the military. Is it posssible that more Democrats volunteer for the military than Republicans other than those volunteers who join for the post-military education and job benefits.

Are conservatives cowards?

1. Yale, yea, the school that thinks theres 700+ genders - nuf said, could end here but wont.

2. Survey asked 300 people, 90 it says were Republican, great sample size man I'm ****ing sold ...90 people surely represent the other ~150+ million.

3. Reacting strongly to a physical threat is what an alpha does and we didn't need some shitty hackjob of a "study" to know that, its been a biological fact for about 600 million years or so back when the first alpha fish-like thing saw the first cucked fish-like thing and ate it.

4. The underlying point that this garbage tries to make is that people will be "nicer" if things are better - well no ****ing **** why do you think we're trying to make America great?

Anecdotal maybe, but it has always been my impression that those most fearful of ____________, are generally conservative in their thinking. While I was a NRA member this was plainly evident by their marketing strategy. In a word: FEAR! Fear anything and everything that is different from you, especially brown and black people who speak a different language.

If you put yourself in the mindset that everything and everyone around you is a threat, and along comes this association that not only shares your fears, but for just $35 a year, will teach you how to arm yourself in this dangerous world, it's literally a match made in heaven. Wayne LaPierre, and every CEO of every gun manufacturer in America knows this to be true.

 

Here in the UK it's the other way round. Project Fear is a left wing initiative.

It's not a proven scientific fact that amygdala is the fear center in the brain.

Well, if all the seven billion people on this planet can somehow be simultaneously goaded into believing they're safe from any form of physical harm long enough for this belief to stick, maybe humanity could become one big happy brotherhood. But would such belief really keep humans safe?

I think the author of the article is wrong. Fear is not what motivates conservatives. It's survival. Walking the same path their forefathers walked before them - managing to survive and reproduce - is the best way to make sure they themselves will be able to survive and reproduce. That's true for most people, by the way, not only American conservatives.

Pacifying voters, making them feel safe, might get the liberals elected, but it won't solve voters' problems. Not their real problems in the physical world, anyway. It'd be just cheating on a bigger scale.

I wish Yale scientists use their time and resources to find out how can we deal with real threats in the very real world we live in, instead of creating fantasy worlds to turn people into obedient sheep ( because this is exactly what this experiment does).
