Because they did something that is objectively dangerous and stupid. And they paid their price.
And this somehow baffles and angers you when people point it out.

Why is it “stupid?” I’m sure there are foreigners who think natives of their country are “stupid” for visiting the US for fear of being killed by a cop or mass gunman?

These people worked their entire lives and decided they wanted to enjoy more of it and bicycling around the world gave them that. Do you feel better insulting and laughing at the dead?

What they did was objectively stupid and the proof is in the fact that they are indeed now dead.
The earth is a big place and you could bike around for a very long time without ever coming anywhere near one of the most dangerous nations on the planet.
Cycling through the Montana wilderness is just as stupid due to a sizable grizzly bear population. I hope you wouldn't criticize people for mentioning this simple truth.

I suggest you read my other posts on these two if you think I am "insulting" and "laughing" at them. You are very wrong!

Why do liberals hate work ???

Who indoctrinated so many liberals that the world is so groovy and it's a safe world ?

It's a dangerous world out there and there are hundreds of millions who want to rape and kill liberals.

It really is you guys who are spreading hatred and disrespect towards people who have been murdered through no fault of their own who should be asking who fills your head with this nonsense. I have already left link.

I do not know how little must fill people's head that the best thing they can do is ridicule young decent people who have been murdered creating a false situation that they deserved it and praising that they can have no children. Makes you wonder what the world would be like if such people ever get power in politics.

I'm unsure about multiculturalism, personally. But evil is a lazy way of labeling ones enemies. Your example sounds mostly like a conspiracy. I'm sure there's somebody who thought that way, but not most. Most people who like open borders believe in multiculturalism and point to America's historic strength as a result of embracing that. I'd point more to our resources, geographic isolation from other power centers, and bill of rights, but the point is that if they're wrong, it's not "evil" so much as being incorrect about a sociological issue.

The closest thing to evil is really a total absence of morality, which I'd define as an ability to resist fulfilling ones desires when they hurt others, and being willing to undergo something bad in order to help others. Some of us have more destructive desires than others (some people actually find rape and murder fun, while many of us wouldn't even enjoy it), but somebody who fully embraces very destructive but weak desires at great cost to others is the closest thing to evil I can think of, but even then I think it's an oversimplification. People who dehumanize their enemies, such as islamic extremists and really most peoples at war with each other, I mean it's a form of destructive ignorance, but unless we want to equate ignorance and evil, it's only evil in its consequences. The reason it exists is pretty straightforward. Ancient tribal leaders had to be able to deprive their enemies of their humanity in order to be merciless, win and survive.

Here is the cold hard facts of life.

It is the nature of the human species to pray on the weak, or on those who are perceived to be a threat.

Mankind learned that in order to survive, it needed to band together like minded people, in towns, cities, and then Nations, and fight to the death to protect their way of life. Only those who showed total loyalty to the people in those cities and nations were allowed to enter, and live there. Others were driven out, enslaved, or killed. That is a fact.

It's only in recent historical times that people believe they can change this fact by a snap of a finger, and benevolent speeches of peace and unity. As if the history and evolution of mankind can be changed, or ignored.

Here is the hard cold facts. The story is fake News. The writer of it knew that there are some americans who hate people they presumably think are liberal or Democrats that they would believe this and applaud the murder of them. The story was written to encourage hatred of the 'other' whether that other be a Muslim or in this case a non far right American. It succeeded. That so may of you also applauded the reality that they would not have children, I do not think we have seen this degree of sickness on such a scale since the 1930's.

I think your anger and hatred have blinded you from the point of my post.

I didn't comment on the tragedy, real, or fake. I simply stated the truth about human beings.

It is in our nature to distrust. And it is in our nature to band together those of like mind and objective in order to survive.

This does not mean Black, White, Yellow, Brown, whatever, can't live together in harmony. That's not the issue. It's whether everyone shares the same objectives and beliefs.

True story or not, it is naive to think other people should accept strangers simply because they claim to be peaceful.

Mankind will never, as a total collective species, get along with each other. That has never happened in the history and evolution of mankind. Demanding that people should get along is lunacy, and indeed is a perfect example of hatred towards another, as it shows disrespect to their culture and values.

You might make a reasonable philosophical point that "evil is make-believe" but the reason that the concept of evil will long outlast either you and I on this earth is because we need to rationalize human actions, and often can't. Falling off a bike into a ravine isn't evil, it's just an accident. Being deliberately hit by a car on a bike because you are a foreigner is....what?

Not really. Bad luck isn’t ironic. Playing the odds and losing isn’t ironic.

Progressivism? I've known people who went over to Tajikistan. They were all evangelical Christians, not progressives at all. Actually the people who kept the lid on all the Islamic terror during the 20th century were the Communists. Guess who sided with the Islamic Mujahideen against the Communists in Afghanistan: The United States of America under Carter and Reagan.

Something terrible happened to them on a bike trip. Something that could happen to them in the US just as easily, and people like you jump to mock them. Pretty pathetic on your part.

UNEXPECTEDLY: Millennial Couple Bikes Near ISIS Territory to Prove ‘Humans Are Kind’ and Gets Killed.

“You read the papers and you’re led to believe that the world is a big, scary place,” Austin wrote.

“People, the narrative goes, are not to be trusted. People are bad. People are evil.”

“I don’t buy it,” he continued. “Evil is a make-believe concept we’ve invented to deal with the complexities of fellow humans holding values and beliefs and perspectives different than our own… By and large, humans are kind. Self-interested sometimes, myopic sometimes, but kind. Generous and wonderful and kind.”

However, Austin and Geoghegan’s dream trip came to a tragic and gruesome end when they got to Tajikistan, a weak state with a known terrorist threat that shares a border with Afghanistan, where ISIS and other terrorist groups are highly active. They were riding their bikes through the country on July 29 when a car rammed them, according to CBS News. Five men got out of the car and stabbed the couple to death along with two other cyclists, one from Switzerland and the other from the Netherlands.

Two days later, ISIS released a video showing the same men sitting in front of the group’s black flag. They looked at the camera and vowed to kill “disbelievers,” according to The New York Times.

    What an unnecessary, sad story.

How often are people riding bikes down the road in the US and they get stabbed and run over by car filled with ISIS terrorists?

Aaron Rodgers might be the GOAT, but I think these 2 took a pretty big chance biking in a country that had a civil war recently and was bordering Afghanistan. Also, I think a lot of terrorists move in and out of these border countries. They saw the opportunity and they took it.

Al Qaeda could run these two idealists over and then stab them to death in the US? Really?

How is it possible not to see how idiotic these two were and yet still realize
how hopeful and optimistic they were, and how their naive idealism probably killed them, in the end?

Why can't people recognize stupidity when they see it (biking on the border with Afghanistan, a terrorist's Disneyland)
yet also admire the trusting naive nature of these two?

Is it so difficult to hold these two opposing thoughts at the same time? I can do it.

I would contend that bicycling through the back roads of Tajikistan (near the Afghanistan border) to demonstrate how all human beings are good
and trustworthy, and then dying at the hands of the worst people on the face of the earth, is indeed ironic.
