The NRA is losing its grip — on reality and on politicians by Jennifer RubinFebruary 26 National Rifle Association CEO Wayne LaPierre and spokeswoman Dana Loesch have in recent days helped pull back the curtain on the mind-set of the NRA. This is not a group that wants responsible gun ownership. (Do responsible people have a weapon of war designed purely to kill as many people as possible as fast as possible?) This is not a group that is focused on making cogent arguments about gun legislation. Instead, like President Trump and Fox News, the NRA now operates in the fever swamp of what used to be a conservative party. Now, it’s a cult based on the preservation of Trump, a cult that requires conspiracies, bizarre rhetoric and out-and-out lies to keep its members in a high-pitch frenzy. LaPierre ranted at the Conservative Political Action Conference, “If they seize power, if these so-called European socialists take over the House and the Senate, and God forbid they get the White House again, our American freedoms could be lost and our country will be changed forever.” If someone were mumbling like that at a bar, the bartender would be obligated to cut off his drinks. https://www.washingtonpost.com/blog...ty-and-on-politicians/?utm_term=.af6c299148f0
Again, nothing more than empty, baseless, politically driven rhetoric. There are no privately owned "weapons of war" that are "designed purely to kill as many people as possible as fast as possible." Anyone who makes such a claim is not speaking on the basis of fact but rather nonsense.
Yep. I'm a Constitutionalist, plain and simple. I took an oath to protect that Constitution when I went into law enforcement, and I take that oath seriously.
No "maybe not" about it. This is nothing but gun banner boilerplate, and your citation of it exposes you for what you are!
As killing as many people as fast as possible is not and has never been the doctrine for the employment of the US service rifle, no service rifle was designed to meet that "spec". The semi-auto is not a "weapon of war"; bolt action rifles, pump action shotguns, 7 shot semiauto handguns and .38 caliber revolvers are actual weapons of war. More telling, there are about 5 million people in the US who own 15 million semiauto rifles that meet the definition of "assault weapon", and given that the number of dead due to "assault weapons" in mass shootings numbers less than 300 for the last 20 years, it's apparent that yes, responsible people own these firearms and use them daily in a safe, lawful manner. The semiauto AR-15 was first sold to civilians in 1964 and it took 48 years with millions sold to civilians before one was ever used in a mass shooting. Anyone who declares that Second Amendment protections are not an issue with gun laws has lost any credibility with regards to cogent arguments about gun legislation.
Wild-eyed nonsense: LaPierre “If they seize power, if these so-called European socialists take over the House and the Senate, and God forbid they get the White House again, our American freedoms could be lost and our country will be changed forever.”
I wonder how many of these parents will "tip" toward carrying legally after a good guy with a gun stopped a mass shooting at a back to school party full of children. They should give the guy a medal. https://www.nationalreview.com/news/armed-bystander-thwarts-shooting-florida-picnic/
I can understand why they're angry. They were born into an unjust world. They had to suffer because older generations of Americans failed them. They witnessed their classmates being gunned down because too many adults value firearms over the right to life. I think we'll be seeing many changes within the next few decades. Off with the old and on with the new.
The same students who believed the nation of Canada could and should get involved with politics in the united states, including contributing to the election of certain politicians through monetary donations? The same Michael Moore who had to tell David Hogg that such could not legally be done?
Whenever you all feel ballsy enough, please try. The Tree of Liberty has been parched for quite sometime.
First guns, then pistols, then knives, then telescopic batons and pepper sprays, even dogs. Look at England. Even Rottweilers are banned; Chihuahuas are not. England is very safe, right?
They, eh? And you will be hiding behind who/what while men with guns try to confiscate guns from 130 million plus people?
if you failed to comply with the directions of officers sent to confiscate your weapons you would at least be arrested. If you pointed a gun at them you would be shot. Those are the facts
Such is not the fate that befell those that stood in solidarity with Cliven Bundy. They pointed firearms at federal agents, were ready to shoot them where they stood, and forced the better trained, better equipped federal agents to back down. Even though they faced legal consequences in the aftermath, all of them survived, and the courts overturned their convictions, and even scolded the federal government for their mismanagement of the situation. What this incident in the history of the united states reveals is that legally binding precedent was set, establishing that it is indeed legal for private citizens to hold federal agents at the point of a firearm under certain circumstances.
