    When, "today"?

Ukraine & Crimea have been governed from Moscow longer than

California Republic and the Republic of Texas have been part of :flagus:

Today, today? Then Crimea is of the Russian Federation.

    What today do we speak?
    What "exceptions"? Whose map?

    Ukraine is not a nation.
    It is a region.

Things like "relationships with reporters" in no way indicates "control" of the media.

U.N. does a lot of funny, inexplicable stuff.

    Hardly an argument.

But isn't that what Washington did in Yugoslavia, and has been trying to do in Syria? Besides according to the Hague previous rulings, it's legal if a referendum is held and it's the will of the people. You know of course that Germany never held one when it annexed E. Germany?

Ohhh, why should Germany have held some referndum?

Seems what I saw back in the day, most East/West Germans were more than eager to reunite without one.....sour grapes on your part.....lol.

Your father is posing in front of an American flag, and looking very much like a patriotic American. But being a suspicious person, it makes me wonder as to where your allegiances really lie?

Poroshenko wants to insure that Ukraine will remain allied with the West regardless of whether it's the will of the people or not. Marshall law has been imposed on these (Russian?) areas: Vinnitsa, Donetsk, Zaporizhia, Luhansk, Nikolaev, Odessa, Sumy, Kharkiv, Kherson, Chernihiv. This means there is a ban on about 45 primary and 7 by-elections that were scheduled for December 23rd, as well as on the 9 mid-term local elections that are to take place on December 9th and 16th.

I'm starting to think Putin made a mistake when he forced the militia to accept Poroshenko's truce and go to Minsk, rather than continuing the advance and freeing more Russian territory. He might have thought that in time real elections would be held and the junta would be kicked out - but he was wrong. He underestimated Washington's determination to control Ukraine no matter what the cost in Ukrainian lives.

I can't comment too much on these. As I see it, America gets dragged into conflicts
because of its sense of international duty, or the international community and its
own citizens demand "something be done."
Clinton said, in reference to Bosnia, that he would be damned if he intervened, and
damned if he didn't. And that's where America found itself with Somalia, the invasion
    of Kuwait etc..
But this Russian business is not like that.

Any ship which is going to pass through the Kerch strait needs a permission from Kerch port captain (Kerch marine administration). Because the navigable channel is situated in the Kerch (western) part of the strait. That was before 2014, and that regime remains afer 2014.
What do you want to say? Before 2014 it was right and now it is wrong? Why?

Moreover, a passage through the channel is paid. Every ship must pay to the Kerch port administration every time when it passes. Maybe you want to say Ukrainian ship don't have to pay?

The status of the Sea of Azov is determined by Russia-Ukraine agreement of 2003. There is said that "Russian-Ukrainian cooperation in the spheres of navigation, fisheries, protection of marine environment, ecological safety and life-saving in the sea of Azov and the strait of Kerch must be implemented on the basis of existing international agreements and by conclusion, in respective cases, of the new ones". There is no any special agreement on the Kerch strait, as far as I understand.

But anyway, anyway, anyway - even though the agreement over Azov declares freedom of navigation, it doesn't cancel territorial waters in the Sea of Azov. Ukrainian boats were in the territorial waters of Russia. (They were in the Black Sea waters, by the way). And they must follow the rules and laws of Russian Federation. The same as Russian ships in Ukrainian territorial waters must follow the rules and laws of Ukraine. When the Ukrainian boats were told to stop, they had to stop. It's simple.

But Ukrainians don't consider their waters a shared territory:

Why Russian waters is a shared territory and Ukrainian waters are not?

Okay. So if I understand you correctly, what Ambassador Murray says about the international agreement is correct? His view is that Ukraine must ask permission and if it doesn't Russia has every right to intercede and stop them.

Where he diverges is that Russia has no right to arrest the ships crews and ship them to Moskow to stand trial. In, perhaps, the same way the USA has no right to force the arrest of Julian Assange and have him deported to the USA to stand trial for espionage - or God knows what other charges that may bear the death penalty - when he is not even a USA citizen but an internationally known publisher.

Regarding the CIA's control of Media coverage in relation to this & other Crisis they Precipitate

turn his Allegiance against such a malignant regime. But what response did I get from you ?

    Wow, what an interesting comment.

You are aware are you not that Yugoslavia was a conglomerate made-up country, are you not? They did have their own language, they were not a single people. It was a country formed after WWI when all of the peoples of the region were forced to create a single nation when the Austro-Hungarian Empire was dissolved.

Croats, Serbs, Bosnians, Slovenes, all were forced into a "nation" that none of them wanted.

Kinda like when the Ukranians were forced into the Soviet Union.

And what happened after Yugoslavia disintegrated after Tito died is not that different than now. When Tito died and Yugoslavia broke apart into it's original regions, you had at least one of those groups that insisted it was the rightful follower of Yugoslavia, and tried to conquer their neighbors to bring them back together again.

Interesting you talk about Washington and Yugoslavia. "Washington" (more correctly NATO) primarily was stopping mass slaughters and genocide. So since you oppose that, I can only think that you find such actions acceptable, so long as they advance an outcome you favor.

Or was it wrong for NATO to stop the Bosnian Genocide at the hands of the Serbians?

They most certainly are a single people. They are all "South Slavs." - The divisions among
these people are divisions of Religious affiliation not Ethnicity - Divisions precipitated by the
break up of the Ottoman Empire.
    ........ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Slavs

And further - The Crimea was NOT part of the Ukraine when the Ukraine was formed
as a country in 1917. It was part of Russia and Khrushchev's handing over of the Crimea
to the Ukraine was ILLEGAL and against an existing constitution

    Query? ; ................................................................. [IMG]

Nothing confuses me. I'm just pointing out that the statement that the agreement makes Russia/Ukrainian territorial waters in the Sea of Azov a shared territory is totally wrong.
