Willian Mulholland is the engineer responsible for the aqueducts and why LA grew. If it had not have been for a small oops he would probably be remembered much more than the drive that bears his name.

I am not sure I have driven on Mulholland Dr but I had not connected his name to the canals here in CA either. Nice to know more history. I saw on the map that at the least, i crossed over Mulholland Drive.

 

Now my state owes the Federal Government over $3 Billion dollars. We don't get to just take money for no reason.

California needs to sell back all the land it acquired for the boondoggle and pay back as much as it can initially. There is no need to own that land anymore. It should be in private hands and the Federal Government gave that money with conditions and California broke the deal.

 

There needs to be a Federal investigation where all that money went and all we got was a few overpasses to no where.

Why would anyone from Bakersfield would want to take a train to Madera, California ?

Bakersfield has a lot of Mexicans and Madera has a state prison.

It would be politically correct if Mexicans from Bakersfield could quickly travel on a train from Bakersfield to Madera to visit their family members who are living behind a wall.

Actually, all the way from LA to the lovely Sacramento, CA. Democrats run this state. There is no way they will allow Newsom to kill this project. We simply got our hopes up.

 

We have a case here in the SF Bay area where homes in the path of the ill fated major freeway that was to branch off highway 580 and end at highway 680 to relieve dense traffic actually sold off the right of way after it was paid for.

It was to parallel highway 80 as does the MacArthur Freeway (580) to help traffic get to San Jose.

Homeowners were moved out and later renters inserted. Rents on state property were very low.

It may have been back in 1962-64 that I rode the German trains, but I simply am unable to recall even part of the train ride that was not on level land. The longest leg of the trip took me from Schweinfurt Germany to Amsterdam Holland I don't recall even a slope.

The trip was about 600 km. The way back a bit longer since I took a side trip on the way back.
