    Trump announces escalating tariffs against Mexico, starting at 5 percent, until illegal immigrants 'STOP'

    President Trump on Thursday abruptly announced a new 5 percent tariff on Mexico beginning in early June, saying the levy will "gradually increase" until the ongoing illegal immigration surge at the southern border is "remedied."

    "On June 10th, the United States will impose a 5% Tariff on all goods coming into our Country from Mexico, until such time as illegal migrants coming through Mexico, and into our Country, STOP," Trump wrote. "The Tariff will gradually increase until the Illegal Immigration problem is remedied, ... ..at which time the Tariffs will be removed. Details from the White House to follow."

    ...“We are going to do something very dramatic on the border because people are coming into our country," Trump told reporters Thursday.

    Looks like Mexico is paying for the wall after all.

    This will of course encourage Mexico to get its act together.

    My lord, this is the dumbest idea yet. He thinks he can unilaterally threaten nations one by one using our economy as the threat. This is idiocy compounded by lunacy. If you think this is going to do anything but cost all of us more money you are a fool.

    Illegals are already costing us billions, that is unless you think everything they've been getting like government benefits, food, housing, schooling, court costs, prison costs, deportation costs, etc doesn't cost a red cent.

    This is a great move, hit Mexico in their wallets and eventually they'll get the message. Trump should also announce that for every month Mexico lets the illegals flow through to our border that a certain percentage of the aid we give them is taken away. Right now we give Mexico about $300 million a year. Take away $60 million a month until they earn it.

    We may need to tax remittances as well.

    Mexico's top source of income is money sent from the US.

    Mexico better think real hard.

    Sure they can. I agree, but it still doesn't change the fact that every time one of you cry about how much they cost us, you never factor in what they contribute to our economy through their labor. About 180 billion to California's economy alone per year.

    You're right. We also complain about the illegals who rob, rape and murder our citizens. We also complain about the non tax paying ones who we pay to send to school yet they don't habla. We then pay for the cost of arresting them, giving them a lawyer and a trail, and then their prison costs.

    Which means the already crappy free healthcare that is inadequate for citizens is about to get worse.

    Well then, Mexico's exports will be 25% more expensive by October. Wonder what that means for their manufacturing jobs?
