He did it to honor the birth of the greatest country in the world and those who died to both establish and preserve it. The people of the world want to come here because of the promise of America enshrined in the Declaration of Independence regardless of what temporary problems exist. Minority people fought for and died for this promise.

Read "We Have Overcome - An Immigrants Letter to the American People" - Jason Hill - 2018.

I applaud freedom of expression. It is not like this is the first time we people have protested against the Gov't (right- wrong - or otherwise).

In this country you can defame Jesus if you like - the figurehead of the dominant religion in this nation.

God forbid you defame Muhammad though- das ist verboten !!

Yes, and July 4 is not a military day. It's a day for picnics and family and friendship.

This is really so stupid. On the Fourth we do lots of different things. Visit cemeteries. Set off fireworks. Gorge ourselves on too much food. Renew old friendships. See the new babies in the family. The Fourth is whatever we want to make of it. Our Veterans Hall held a memorial service. In our case we attended an out of town family reunion and set off a ton of fireworks. That is the thing about the US. We can do pretty much what we damn please.

There is no such thing as a citizen abusing a right. That's exactly why the founders created the BoR so that that government would not infringe on those rights.

My brain hurts. LOOK - Independence day is a celebration of what ? "Independence Perhaps" ?

How about we talk about the meaning of the "Declaration of Independence" on this day - something - through 12 years of school - our educational system fails to do.

What was it that these soldiers were fighting for ? does "Give me liberty or Give me Death" ring any bells ?

How about Franklin - "Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase temporary security deserve neither liberty or security"

The point of the Declaration of Independence was to secure liberty by outlining restrictions to the power of Government - and to state where the authority of Gov't comes from. 1) individual liberty was put "ABOVE" the legitimate authority of Govt = Gov't is then to have no authority to make "ANY LAW" messing with individual liberty of its own volition.
    2) The authority of Gov't comes from "consent of the Governed" as opposed to divine right/God - as was the case in the past.

We now live at a time where the citizens on on their knees "Begging" to trade essential liberty for temporary security.

So filled with fear are these folks that they have made it their "Patriotic Duty" to give up essential liberty - over fear of an external threat with a risk of harm that is 400 times less than the risk of harm from "walking".

What exactly do you think our forefathers - who spilled much blood to secure these essential liberties - would say about this ? How are we honoring these people and what they were fighting for ? - and is this not what Independence day is about ?

We now live in a nation that has a two party system - and the leadership of both these parties hate the founding principles - and the ideals that these folks fought for. Republican leadership hates the principles of Republicanism and Liberal leadership hates the principles of Classical Liberalism.

The safeguards have been, or are being, systematically removed. We might as well be back under British rule. Go look at what the revolutionaries were complaining about - and good luck making a case that we are better off.

Good, and that is exactly what I said, whatever you please. Please don't do military parades on July 4.

Of course not. But that's different than having a right limited/abolished because someone does something they shouldn't.

Lawyers for the Department of Justice plan to tell a federal judge in Maryland Friday afternoon that the Trump administration will continue to explore options of adding a citizenship question to the 2020 census, according to an administration official familiar with the plans.

The official stressed that as of now the census will be printed without the citizenship question.

Trump told reporters on Friday that he is considering an executive order to ensure a citizenship question is included on the U.S. census.

Trump told reporters on the White House lawn that he has four or five options and is "thinking about" an executive order. He also said his administration could begin printing the 2020 census and later include the question as part of an addendum.

Trump has made a career of challenging Congress. Is he now challenging the Supreme Court? The Supreme Court ruled 5-4 last week to block the citizenship question from appearing on the 2020 census for now, saying the administration’s argument that the question is needed to enforce a federal voting rights law didn’t line up with the evidence provided in the case.

His executive order would violate the ruling of the Court.

It is difficult to understand how Republicans in Congress can support this man. The have ceded power of the purse to Trump. They support Trump when he is challenging the oversight role of Congress as defined by our Constitution. They ceded war powers to Trump contrary to our Constitution.

Republicans in Congress are digging themselves a hole from which they may not recover for a generation or more.

They are scared to death of Trump's base. It is difficult to understand that, too. When did the GOP abandon logic and reason?

Why can't "whatever you please" include military parades? Isn't that what "whatever you please means?

Iran has breached the limit on its stockpile of low-enriched uranium set under a 2015 nuclear deal with world powers, and she is increasing the enrichment limit set by the agreement.

"Iran’s president Hassan Rouhani warned European nations Wednesday that Tehran will "take the next step" in increasing its uranium enrichment closer to weapons-grade levels this coming Sunday if they do not offer a new deal by then, adding that they will increase it to "any amount that we want. We will take over 3.67."

British Royal Marines in fast boats and helicopters on Thursday seized a supertanker suspected of carrying Iranian oil to Syria near the Mediterranean peninsula of Gibraltar, the first such detention of a ship under the terms of European sanctions targeting supplies to Syria.

Trump tweeted, "Be careful with the threats, Iran. They can come back to bite you like nobody has been bitten before!"

Following his Neville Chamberlain approach to Kim Jong Un when he stepped over into North Korea, Trump is now considering the abandonment of denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and allowing Kim to keep the weapons he has now. The Times described it in this way. "A real idea has been taking shape inside the Trump administration that officials hope might create a foundation for a new round of negotiations. The concept would amount to a nuclear freeze, one that essentially enshrines the status quo, and tacitly accepts the North as a nuclear power."

The Times added, "While the approach could stop that arsenal from growing, it would not, at least in the near future, dismantle any existing weapons, variously estimated at 20 to 60. Nor would it limit the North’s missile capability."

The article was written five days ago. Neither Trump nor the White House has denied the new diplomatic strategy.

Trump and the White House has said little to nothing about all this. What has Trump been doing? He was planning his July Fourth show and was worried about a question, or lack thereof, on the upcoming census. That is all we heard about for the past week.

Some have been reminded of the mythical king who pondered how many fairies can dance on the head of pin?

The Mulford Act? Maybe because Reagan was racist?
    https://www.history.com/news/black-panthers-gun-control-nra-support-mulford-act

The Hughes Amendment? Maybe because it was an amendment that was slipped into a larger bill and to this day has been a thing of controversy because of the voice vote that was hastily taken.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firearm_Owners_Protection_Act

In either case, neither of them should have passed and been signed.

And I am saying puleeze, this whole thing is silly and does not make a dimes worth of difference except the dems make big deal just about anything and everything he does. This ranks real high with my "who gives a crap list".
