trump's travel restrictions may or may not of helped, esecially sense he did not ban travel to and from china for Americans

    agree

    agree

Trump did not inherit this problem, it's all his, he has been warned for years
as for the test shortage, agree, not Trumps fault, but is Trump's fault for saying anyone that wanted one could get one when they could not
when listening to trump, we have to remember, if Trump thinks it will make him look bad, he will lie, so take anything Trump says with a grain of salt
nothing is more important to Trump than his fragile ego, not you, not I, not anyone - and to think in the beginning I supported Trump (not proud of that)

    lot's of unknowns for sure

    I would so too, AJ!

I created an OP back on 3/10 on the Math and did projections based upon both low and high range estimates.

    http://politicalforum.com/index.php...-regular-flu-mortality-doing-the-math.569272/

The subsequent CDC projections were very much in line with the figures that I came up with.

We ALL hope that the low end is what will occur but we do not have the necessary control to achieve the low end result.

Does that mean that in three days the US cases will be 48,000?

    3/10 - 994
    3/13 - 2,247
    3/16 - 4,663
    3/19 - 13,789
    3/22 - 26,892

That is what the math is is showing, unfortunately.

In a week after it reaches 50,000 it will be 100,000 and in another week 400,000 and so on.

I haven’t been thinking about the real maths definition of exponential, only that it is big and fast!

There is a really excellent thread started by @Statistikhengst that began 8 days ago. Between then and now the total number of worldwide cases has DOUBLED from 156k to 308k.

    http://politicalforum.com/index.php...s-in-the-world.569531/page-23#post-1071531283

Yes, we are in an exponential Pandemic and if it keeps up at the current rate the entire world will be infected by July.

The URGENCY to flatten the curve is the overriding concern because there are simply not enough medical facilities to care for those who will need it.

With the current global infection total of 300,000 there have been 13,000 deaths which is about 4%.

If 7.6 BILLION people are infected the death toll would be around 300 MILLION people.

Or to put it another way one of every 25 people will die.

I live in Valencia (Spain). My mother had a severe flu in December-January, my girlfriend also had it in February. They might had had Covid. They weren't tested. So this 4% is not to be trusted.
There are people infected without symptoms, didn't you know it?

80% of Covid-19 infections are MILD!

It is those that are SEVERE that kill people.

Yes, people can be contagious for 2 weeks before developing any symptoms which is why it spreads to easily.

I think we are experiencing both biological warfare and psychological warfare.

Humans kept in a state of fear, forced to mistrust every other human, psychological warfare results. Strange times we live in, for sure.

If people are fearful of each other, society will be broken down.

Lock down is a form of psychological warfare, for some more than others.

    Thanks for that explanation.

I am not seeing that happening myself but that might be just my location. I can't speak for everywhere else. What I am seeing are people trying to help each other rather than distrust and fear. This might change in the future but right now I am not experiencing it.

As far as bio-warfare goes this is definitely a Pandemic but only the criminal IMPOTUS and his cabal of nattering nabobs and their dittoheads are trying to make China out of be the "enemy". That would only serve his political ends of trying to create an imaginary "foreign nation" threat just as the Bush/Cheney regime did with Iraq. The difference is that they managed to dupe a great many more people than the criminal IMPOTUS can nowadays.

I think it's important to note that the psychological effects bother some folks more than others. I too have noticed a few gestures and such from total strangers that fall in line with what you're saying. The pictures of Italians confined to their homes singing from the balconies is a good sign. Humans are resilient but some are not.

Agreed that there is definitely a segment of the population that goes "stir crazy" with just their own company. They need other people the way actors need an audience. Those are the ones who need to be watched because I suspect there is a potential for an increase in suicides. The stress of living without human interaction can be significant. Studies have established that holding hands reduces anxiety.

We are just in the early stages here so what has yet to transpire is unknown. Like others I am hoping forthe best but realistic enough to know that the worst is still a possibility.

It has now reached 42+ of Africa's 54 countries. Seems some help is coming from a Chinese Billionaire.

In this virus, China is our enemy, not our duly elected POTUS. Like most of these viruses, it came from China, and had they been truthful about this from the beginning we wouldn't be in this position. I say this not to manufacture an opponent but because going forward we need to bring as much of our manufacturing home as possible, especially antibiotics. China cannot be trusted and they are our #1 enemy, not Russia. We're talking about a nation that is a totalitarian dictatorship that still reveres the mass murderer Mao.
