I support defunding the war on drug efforts

if police do not police their own, I do support defunding as a punishment until they can show they are making changes

I would hope the police would do the change needed vs being defunded

But the only people you punish when you do that are the law abiding citizens who need the police.

Let’s assume we defund the police. Do you think that’s better for law abiding citizens or criminals? Do you think that will result in more crime or less?

I was thinking the same thing while I watched protests during a pandemic. Darwinism at work.

I agree. It's childish and silly, and it'll all be forgotten in a few weeks.

There is some talk about defunding the police, but I suspect that is just to draw attention to the way our police have become militarized. I see no reason why our police should have armored troop carriers. They are police, not military. A better change to make would be to try to eliminate the us vs them attitude that the police seem to have taken toward the citizens. When police resign enmass because one of their blue group is charged with an obvious uncalled for assault, it's clear they are more interested in protecting themselves and their cadre than they are in doing the job they were hired for.

You believe that the criminals should be better protected than the police? There are times when they need the armored troop carriers to penetrate a dangerous situation. They would be slaughtered if they tried to enter unprotected. Saying they are police and not military ignores the situation they face.

I dunno, who is purposing this..But typically its a view of an extreme Libertarian. As they feel it should be up to the individuals freedom to afford to hire, or contract their own police force.

    To a degree.

    Demilitarize the police.

Take the money spent on military weapons, tanks, armored vehicles, and the like and put that to use in changing the way policing is done.

Take aways the tools that cause the police to view the public as the enemy and then maybe the police can look for other options.

When all you have is a hammer...

Wrong. Neither childish nor soon to be forgotten.

People saw the police actons the last few weeks.

People are questioning why the police need to be armed, dressed, and act like military.

Defunding of the militarization of local police will happen.

While leftist rioters are running wild and tossing around firebombs, people are questioning why the police need to be heavily armed and well-outfitted.

    Clown world.

Because the criminals can afford such things doesent mean that he thinks criminals should be better protected then police.
What hes saying is that people wont vote to out spend criminals. And they wont..its freaken expensive, and they will abuse it.

I went back and reviewed photos and footage.

Didn't see any with protesters arriving an APCs
Didn't see any whe protesters using water cannons
Didn't see any with protesters wearing battle armor
Didn't see any with protesters using battle shields...

Maybe if law enforcement stopped arming themselves like the military they will look for other ways to quell violence.

You know, like talking, listening. Weird stuff like that.

The victims of oppression will use whatever tools they have to fight that oppression.

Look back at history. The oppressor is ALWAYS defeated in the end.
Their tactics become more and more violent.
Which promotes more violence from the oppressed but
    In the end
The oppressed win because people, regular people, recognize the righteousness of the cause and the evil of oppression.

    Supporting oppression is supporting evil.
