    Well she has lawyered up. I imagine by this point she has fessed up to her parents. Probably sweating bullets right now because the Feds are involved..... desperately oh so desperately hoping that the case goes unsolved.

    I would recommend that Althea turn herself in right now so she can collect the $10,000 reward that has been provided for the arrest and conviction of the perpetrators.... it could come in handy in defraying bills that are surely coming her family's way.

Today, I turned 18 & WaPo settled my lawsuit,” Sandmann announced on Twitter. “Sandmann offered a not-so-subtle warning to Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey. ‘We have settled with WAPO and CNN. The fight isn’t over. 2 down. 6 to go. Don’t hold your breath @jack,” Sandmann tweeted.’”

    This follows the multi-million dollar settlement CNN made with the teenager back in January.

    Considering how horrific this would be if true, I’m just going to reserve judgement until more info comes out.

    I’d feel too ashamed to end up on the wrong side of that answer.

    Madison Police chief denies claim teen pressured to recant hate crime claim

    MADISON (WKOW) - Madison's Police chief denies a claim made by a protest leader that detectives asked a teenager who maintained she was the victim of a disturbing, hate crime to recant her story.

    Authorities say, Althea Bernstein, 18, of Monona, reported she was driving near State Street on a June night of protest when four white men called her a racial slur, tossed a flammable liquid on her, and then threw a lighter or match on her to ignite it. The teenager said she was able to put out flames but was burned. Shortly after the incident, Bernstein did an interview on ABC's Good Morning America and related the same story.

    "Madison Police asked her to revise her statement...and admit she lied," the protest leader maintained, refusing to reveal her name to 27 News. "And these white men set her on fire. She still doesn't have justice. She's still afraid," the protest leader said.

    "That's inaccurate," Interim Madison Police Chief Vic Wahl told 27 News of the claimed request of the teenager to recant. "I can tell you we've spent hundreds of hours investigating that case. It remains an open investigation."

    First thing that occurs to me is that do the police really have so much time on their hands that they can expend "hundreds of hours" investigating this?

    Secondly, it's highly likely (IMHO) that the police did ask her to recant. At some point it seems they would say either recant this obviously fake story, or we're arresting you for filing a false police report.

    It's the little scandal that couldn't! They said there was video surveillance of the area. Surely they could've found a person of interest.

    Ever hear of the word "cold case"? Its cases in which officers spent hundreds of hours trying to solve but couldn't, usually because the trail went "cold". Not all crimes are solvable. It's not uncommon for detectives to spend hundreds of hours trying to solve cases. Happens all the time. That's why they have different divisions of police.
