Well, Facebook and Australia are about to go to War. Zuckerberg is throwing a tantrum, and he has pissed off many Australians, including the Australian Government. Now, while I have seen no evidence of it here, it seems there is growing World wide support for Australia taking the bloke on. Further discussion and Links here, an Aussie site.

I know a lot use it, I just don’t see the point. Just call or text someone to talk to them. Facebook is just annoying.

 

Why care about Facebook delivering the news? It's a social network platform, not a news network platform. It's
like being mad at your local hospital for not having a movie theatre.

 

Oh.....but it IS a news network, and that is exactly what the shitfight is about. It allows news to be posted on FB and does not pay for it. It has had a free ride, and the Aussie Government has backed journalists and told them.....'Cough up Zuckerberg.' In response, he tossed Teddy.

 

Get rid of it. You'll all be way better off.

 

No...it is a very convenient way to stay in touch with Family and Friends.

How’s it a free ride? If you click a link through Facebook they still get the clicks and you still see their ads.

 

Technically its a publisher that decides what people are allowed to see, heavily censoring the flow of information not just here in the US but everywhere they operate - sometimes per domestic government law and sometimes just because of their own ideological zealotry. Facebook was asked to adhere to some of the standard conditions of a publisher; namely in this instance paying for content it uses. Instead of knowing-their-role they fell back on the bogus lie of being 'just a platform' and in typical fascist big-tech fashion cut out a group of people (in this case an entire country) that didn't agree with them.

I hope both Australia and Facebook stick to their guns so this rift widens and others join in. Normal people will opt to abandon Facebook like so many of us already have years ago and the only ones left will be the sort of nutjobs who sit around circle-jerking themselves over their ideological extremism; basically it will be r/politics with photos.

 

There's a lot of ways to do that that don't also support manipulative partisan social engineering machines devised by our beloved CIA... but hey, freedom.

 

I am the wrong bloke to ask. I am an IT numpty. But.....Zuckerberg has been required to cough up for his use of original journalistic material, and he has refused.

 

Hmmmm... usually if I care about someone I want to see or talk to them. Otherwise it’s just pretending to care. I don’t have time to pretend to care about people. I guess I’m in the minority, lol.

 

I have been able to contact old high school friends who I haven't spoken to in 30 yrs at least. It would have difficult if not downright impossible without FB.

 

Australia is on its own against xi and the shadow cabal. Americans are behind you but our government is controlled by the cabal you're up against. They plan on sending China after you while America is compromised. Good luck

No one really cares what Australia thinks.

They will do as they are told, as usual.

However, I'm always down to screw over facebook and all forms of social media. They are garbage and have caused more harm than good for the world.
