Negotiate Peace With Russia to Prevent War Over Ukraine

The US military has all been volunteer too... since we ended the draft in 1973. I joined a conscript (draft) Army in 1970 and retired from a VOLAR (Volunteer Army). Volunteers are MUCH better.

 

This includes several misunderstandings.

First, the negotiation with Iran was between Iran and a US coalition of nations including China, Russia, USA, UK, France and Germany.

The UN was not involved.

Next the previous sanctions under which Iran was operating were about to run out. So, Iran was nearing the point where they would be free of all sanctions previously applied.

The deal that was negotiated was one that Iran was likely to fail to honor.

The deal was negotiated by the US and was signed by Iran, China, Russia, UK, Germany and France.

If (or once?) Iran failed to honor the deal, these nations would be on the hook to work together to defend the deal that they had signed. Obviously, that would have involved enforcement of the sanctions specified in the deal by all signatories.

Of course, Republicans killed the deal, freeing Iran of the constraints that we had negotiated.

The US gained absolutely NOTHING by this step of freeing Iran.

Had this direction worked (that is, had signatories imposed the sanctions as they had committed to do, given Iran's failure to honor the deal) it would have done more than slow Iran.

It would also be a template for how to deal with other nations that are working to create nuclear warhead capability.

The USA had already stifled an attempt to create such an approach in the UN. We opposed and successfully killed the approach that the IAEA had developed as an approach to Iraq that could have then been extended to Iran and the others on the "emerging nuclear weapons" list of nations.

 

Are you working to convince people that Russia under Putin is a dangerous situation?

Oh no, Ukraine forces are members of the regular army. Putin would have you believe
those soldiers invading the Ukraine are just 'volunteers.' Not volunteers as men who
join the Russian army as volunteers (as opposed to conscripts) but regular soldiers
who moonlight as empire builders on weekends etc. without authority of the Russian
army.
And they borrowed artillary, armoured vehicles and of course, Buk missiles.

I never said that the UN had anything to do with the UN. Your earlier comment stated the UN had teeth or words to that effect. I said they were worthless. There was no reference to Iran.
Iran laughed its the way to the bank and continued to develop nukes no matter what promises they ever made. They couldn't care less about the other signatories either. After all... they were all "infidels" and below contempt.

I think the following would fix the situation in Ukraine just as well as I think it would fix a lot of problems here in the US.

Hold a vote, town by town, starting at the border and working outward, to see if they want to split off to join their neighbor or stay as they are, and then draw a new border (not allowing for any 'islands' because that would just be too complicated for politics to handle).

 

Not everyone is ignorant. Not everyone takes what they are told by the MSM as gospel. Some have actually seen the truth by first hand experience. But a lot have not, as evidenced here.

 

That's already been "done"....alls quiet everywhere past the LDPR....and most willing to join EU/NATO....this is a non starter, and plays into Russki propaganda.
