Racism and anti-blackness is the only reason that one could have disliked the movie. Even in other countries "whiteness" apparently permeates how people think. The whole world is apparently "anti-black". That is the impression you get with reading this article.

A couple of days ago I also read another article where someone was complaining about how this movie "erased" slavery.

LINK: ‘Little Mermaid’ slammed by activist for 'erasing' slavery (nypost.com)

i do not care if the fictional princess is green with scales and a tail,

my disagreement with disney is their decades long campaign to legitimize "royalty " and that heredity is the actual determination of legitimate authority.

You are not building bridges by culturally appropriating Egypt. Or blatantly and arrogantly replacing white characters with black actors.

    That's just creating more hate.

I grew up loving Eddie Murphy movies and my favorite movie is Shawshank because of the friendship bond between Andy and Red. Prime Morgan Freeman. Who replaced a white Irish character in the book.

That wasn't offensive. Wanna know why? Because Morgan Freeman is a damn fine actor and was right for the role. He earned that spot because of merit. It wasn't blatantly sending a racial message by show horning a black actor into a white characters role to fight racism. That's just insulting and distracting.

And the more you pull this crap, the more hate you will get.

China and South Korea having bad numbers because of a black actress doesn’t shock me because they, China in particular, are horrifically racist against black people. When Black Panther came out in 2018 they edited the main movie poster just so they wouldn’t have to show Chadwick Boseman’s face.

I read somewhere that the NYTs reviewer trashed the movie for a number of things, among which was "lack of kink"... Can't make this stuff up..

It is sadly the world we live in. The left has always tended to demand that everything be political or reinforce some sort of political agenda including entertainment and so we now have cartoons for little kids who are and should be completely a political aimed at driving some crap political point that the kids don't even understand and that simultaneously pisses of the parents.

NYTs doesn't like Little Mermaid because, gasp, there wasn't sufficient "kink" to keep the reviewer interested....

    https://dennismichaellynch.com/repo...or-lamenting-lack-of-kink-in-childrens-movie/

“The new, live-action ‘The Little Mermaid’ is everything nobody should want in a movie: dutiful and defensive, yet desperate for approval,” movie critic Wesley Morris wrote in a review for The Time.
“It reeks of obligation and noble intentions. Joy, fun, mystery, risk, flavor, kink — they’re missing,” he wrote.

I just see it as an indictment of the progressive media. Think about it, why would a reviewer believe it was ok to put Kink in a kids movie in the first place?

Sorry it's easy leave the kids alone and no one cares. Mess with people's kids and there's hell to pay. Send messages to a totalitarian government that they don't like prepare to have your movie slammed.

There's about as much "NEED" for a black Ariel as there is for a white Black Panther or white Tiana. It makes NO sense what so ever. If you think one is OK and one is not, YOU are the problem. Disney did it because they are INSANE and obviously racist Leftist maniacs. Its not OK to race swap in one direction and not do it in the other. If Disney wants to create a black mermaid tale then create a NEW ORGINAL movie about a black Mermaid=) But since they're creatively and morally bankrupt now, its far too much to ask. That's what the end result of DE&I hiring practices gets you. Eventual failure.

Black Ariel made about as much sense as all her sisters being different races, while sharing the same parents. When you can be whatever you think you are, nothing actually matters anymore. And if your excuse is, its just a cartoon, again, YOU are the problem.

Waiting for them to reboot Starwars with a gay, black Luke Sywalker and Indian Princess Leia. Or a black Woody and Native American Middle Eastern Trans Buzz Lightyear.

More to it than that obviously or it wouldn't have been so universally panned.

Given the current climate, why wasn't Ariel cast as a biracial trans girl bulge hiding onesie and all??
