I wasn’t a fan of the Pinocchio remake and there wasn’t really any race swaps
It’s just lame to change characters but at least this is a fictional character and it isn’t as bad as what they did to cleopatra
Also to say someone is racist because they don’t like a movie is lame
I haven’t seen this new little mermaid but I’m looking forward to it.
I see prince Eric is still white though. It wouldn’t make for a happy fairy tail if the prince hit it and quit it and skipped out on child support payments so that was a good choice.

I used to love watching Wild Wild West as a kid. I so vividly remember being so upset and throwing a temper tantrum when the movie was made with the Jim West character being black.
Oh wait, scratch that. It didn't bother me one bit that they made the white character black. The reason I wasn't upset is because I was a grown-a55 man at the time. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Don't give them any bad ideas. They'll come up with enough all by themselves.

Then why does Disney feel like it's so important to recast traditional characters

disney, like EVERY american corporation is responsible ONLY for shareholder profits. my guess is they are delivering exactly that. one of their few competitors, 20th century fox, is doing a job at which they excel, a negative campaign, little different than a chicago crack dealer claiming his competitor is selling fentanall.

I didn't care either but then the movie was more steam punk Genre than the TV show. And as such an entirely different take. Not to mention to which had like three or four seasons. On the other hand little mermaid was created by HC Andersen c. 200 years ago. It is quite possible that he never met a black person in his life. The mermaid has always been white. Jacking with tradition especially long held traditions is always fraught with danger.

casting black honeymooners was a masterpiece. gleason and carney 's humor work no matter who steals their jokes (hell, no one bitched at hanna barbera for casting the honeymooners as a "modern stone age family."

I've only watched clips of the live action remakes and none of them were great

    Cool story, bro.

And just because I’m gonna offer some of my spare change to all of these projects you’re not looking forward to, just because I can do that.

It is interesting to note that when a White actor plays a person of color that it is “cultural appropriation.” If a Black actor plays role that is traditionally or historically would be a White person, it is to be applauded. Can anyone see the double standard here?

I remember the first time this nonsense started with the musical “Miss Saigon” in the 1990s. The part of “the engineer,” who was the most interesting character in the piece, was played by Jonathan Pryce, who was a Welsh actor. The Actors Equity Association had a fit because “having a White actor play an Asian character was an affront to the Asian community.” After a lot hassles, Pryce was allowed to play the role in Broadway. Ironically, he won the Tony Award (Broadway’s equivalent to the Oscars) for his performance.

Oh yes...such a "danger" making a character black. I can only think of one reason certain people would be upset over a white character being black. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yes, because everyone knows mermaids are white.

How many black mermaids have you seen? How many half-black?

    :p

Did they? It cost $40M to produce and it has grossed $343.1 million wordwide in a matter of days, which is three times the estimate. Its ranking #5 highest memorial day opening in history.

Congrats to the trolling. Proud of yourself=)

Should Tiana be white when they do the live action version? Honest answer. You know it would NEVER happen, but seriously, would something just seem "wrong" with it. Its totally wrong. Its definitely WRONG. It wouldn't make sense. She's a black character. You'd have to re-write her to make it work, stripping away everything wonderful about that character, her family, challenges and the way the story works. How about Spawn or Blade or Black Panther? I guess Spawn & Blade can be easily race swapped. It would be STUPID, but you could do it. Black Panther could be reimagined as well. Would you be racist "assuming" they should be black because they were written as black and make sense as black? Or is it only a "problem" when characters are written white?

You want to have a mature discussion or will you claim, you just don't care, or it doesn't matter and run and hide behind quips=)

    @JohnHamilton
rightly pointed out, anytime a white character plays a traditionally black character the left cries cultural appropriation but anytime a black character plays a traditionally white character it's to be applauded.

I wish I had a nickel for every double standard of the left and I could retire yesterday

40 mil to produce? Where the **** did you get that nonsense? And you never factored in marketing costs. Do progressives not know how to budget?

‘Little Mermaid’ Swimming Against Strong Tides At Overseas Box Office, Leaving Break-Even In Question

"At that level, per finance sources, off a reported $250M production cost and $140M global marketing spend, The Little Mermaid could very well break-even. However, anything in the low $400M global threshold and this fish is apt to be sinking to a loss of around $20M."

It was a pretty fun movie. I liked some of the changes they made but don't want to give spoilers. They cut out the BIGGEST plot hole from the original.

From the Googles and the Weps. I checked again, and see different numbers. Why does it trigger you to a point of tossing F-Bombs?

And......you think I had something to do with the budget........Oh, dear. LOL

The mind of a pseudo-con is a truly mysterious place.

Hey, she is black.......Get over it. Why does it make your head explode?

No deflections please. Can you answer the question? Yes, or no?

I get it. You are offended the actor is black. You'll get over it.......until you see another black actor.

My question was about your claim about white actors playing the role of a "traditionally black character ". You made it up, didn't you?

The rest of you post, in case you forgot what you said. It is irrelevant to my question

Ok well it took a very quick google search to check up on this movie. Your numbers are wrong. The movie is a failure.
