Who's talking about Bush? I'm talking about Hopey and Changey.

And I only turned 25 last April. The thread is about people under 25. It's just convenient for me.

People hated bush just as much as they hate Obama. It doesn't matter who's in the white house, he will be hated.

You do realize that you are a mere 25 years old, yes? You'd be categorized with the latter. Maybe not in this thread, but in general

Yeah but the school system sucks.

You need a school system similar to the type Japan has.

Like I said in my first post. I may be 25 but I've probably seen more at 25 than most people double or 10 years older than me.

If anything, you're just making the case for younger people now by saying that. And although the last two years for me have been stable, when I was 20, I experienced a lot more than people a lot older than me, so I know where you're coming from. But it just goes to show that younger people can be just as intelligent, mature, and experienced.

Yeah, but the young ones loved Obama a lot more. Probably still do. This Generation Y has a way of disfranchising people who care more about issues. It's pretty much all about relate-ability. I'm more often than not guilty of the same thing.

I don't care for Obama at all, and it's true that he's in office because of the 18-29 vote, but McCain, the old peoples choice, would have been worse.

Young people think they know more about the world because they live in a time period where the older generation is disenfranchised (ie Technology).

I think I know more about the world because I've actually seen the world. I've seen a lot of it.

Most young people don't know anything about how the world is like. Most times they've never been outside their own state. They just read what people say the world is like and take it for face value.

They're two sides of the same coin. The only difference is speed. McCain would have been easier to stop.

Bush had progressive agendas as well and he couldn't get what he wanted either. Mostly because the Democrats didn't want him taking credit for it.

The only problem I have with the "young" is that most think they have "seen it all". Us "older" people know that they haven't, because WE thought the same thing when we were young.

To people under 25: You are going to see a lot more in life....trust me. More then likely, you haven't even scratched the surface.

Sure, seeing different places around the world gives you a different perspective, but it's not the end all, be all. And a ton of older folk don't exactly travel the world either.

I'm 55, have always been a bit of a contrarian, and hope to remain that way.

While both stupidity and intelligence know no age limit, wisdom can only come with years of experience and of seeing change up close and personal, not from some book.

I remember the first time I felt like a true adult. I was around 25. About every 5 years it seems like I would re-assess and then pronounce myself all over again as a 'real' adult. Well, let me tell you, the years have taught me that, until dementia sets in, you never stop growing as a person.

I now feel that I've lived long enough to have seen enough change to have developed the proper filters to process new information with. My own life experiences and remembrances go back to the days before the civil rights, women's lib, anti-war and counter-culture movements. In other words, my own life has encompassed what is now viewed as history. I think it takes that before one can have a real appreciation of what has gone before and what lies ahead.

I'm all for younger folks having an interest and taking part in the process. I think the arrogance of some is short-sighted, but what do you expect? We were all young once and knew it all before we were disabused of that notion. Younger folks shouldn't be dismissive of those older as old is what we become....if we're lucky. In between youth and the grave we can all make a difference. For now, we're all here and we're all alive. Let's use that as a common ground to work from.

What's with 25 as this arbitrary age of wisdom anyway? Is a dumb, immature 22-24 year old going to magically transform at 25?

No but it opens your eyes and your world view. I was always attached to one way of thinking before I actually traveled to the West. Then I become more objective about certain ways of life.

Most people live their lives preaching how better things are in other countries but haven't actually taken the time to visit these countries.

Well I don't know much about that, I went to private school. Perhaps we should model our public schools off our private schools?

Well that's kinda how it is in Japan. Both Public and Private schools charge for education. Except the education departments are managed as a small district (prefecture) level. Not like it is with the Board of Ed and Department of Ed.

Well they have a Ministry of Ed but it's hardly the same as it is in the US.

25 is the agreed upon (by scientists) average age that the Frontal Lobe reaches full development on a human male.

I am a 19 year old student and soldier in the United States army. I feel that I have some good things to say about this and that and about other topics not as much. I have found few particularly impressive posters young or old. The old posters act like the young automatically have nothing useful to say and the young feel like the older posters ideals and sense of tradition are outdated. I don't give much of a (*)(*)(*)(*) either way. I agree with no one about this topic, its kind of useless....

No. Not everyone. Not even close.

    Too late.

Under 25 are "children"? So you're saying that 24 year olds who fought in Iraq 6 years ago are just children who haven't "lived or learned anything of the world yet"? Wow. Smug. Did you know that some of the greatest musicians of all time were at their peak in their mid-twenties? There's a reason for that, because your mid 20s are at the mental and physical peak of your existence.

Aside from all of that, what exactly does a person's age have to do with the argument they're making? Does the fact that they're young somehow invalidate the points their making? I can understand this irrational viewpoint if you're someone who doesn't believe in logic or science and live life going off of faith based things and despising logic and science. But really, it's quite a silly viewpoint that nobody would take seriously. It's like a defense mechanism...you're brain is telling you that you are getting owned by a 24 year old and so it kicks in and says "well he's only 24 so what does he know? he's automatically wrong".

Besides, I know plenty of "adults" (Over 25 by your incorrect and twisted defintion) who are complete morons.

    Then leave.

There certainly are other forum members who are as arrogant as you. So I'd say yes, others do feel the same way.

So what? Focus on their arguments instead of their personal lives. If their lives somehow present an inconsistency in their arguments, then point it out in your debate with them. Don't overgeneralize people based on their age. There are plenty of "adults" out there who are complete mooches as well.

You display the results of Collectivist brainwashing in our society by government, media and education.

Sam Walton was 26 when he opened his first business. I also have multiple relatives who are older and have gotten into trouble, one who has gotten a DUI and is over 50, another that is around 45 with a full time job that blows all of his money on God knows what and then asks his mom (my grandma) for loans all the time, and another that is so overweight she can't even walk and is on disability from the government, and she is nearing 60. Your reasoning is highly suspect. Age is not the only condition for someone to be knowledgeable. And despite that, when evaluating an argument age is COMPLETELY irrelevant. All that matters is content and logic. Age can help by giving life experiences, but also remember Obama was elected with something like 53% of the vote, and people under 30 tend to vote in much smaller numbers, so it wasn't the younger generation that elected him :D.

Here's an example of the irrelevancy of age when evaluating an argument. If you are an 80 year old man bemoaning the state of society and the younger people say you are just disconnected or old fashioned, that would not really be addressing your argument. If society sucks, it sucks, it doesn't matter who is actually saying it. And, here is a perfect example of someone on YOUR side being quite young but effective http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/02/27/jonathan-krohn-13-year-ol_n_170642.html. And that article is from the Huffington Post!!!

Only the Liberals. Myself I'll be 53 in a month or two. The young libs just don't get it that THEY will have to pay for Obama's liberal ideas and programs.....till they're old and grey.

By accepting only the most intelligent students so that the school's overall grade averages are naturally skewed.
