Well.. I think we are fortunate to have Australia as an ally. In 1941 Australia must have seemed a world away from the US and our Great Depression.
Layered missile defenses can stop a massive nuclear strike. Any thing short of a massive nuclear attack on America will only wound, but not kill. Wounded animals are the most dangerous kind.
Most Americans imo think of Saudi Arabia as one of the world's greatest sources of terrorism against Americans.
Ignorance can be explained ....The Saudis should have been buying US Congressmen years and years ago... like AIPAC.
There is much of what Obama's speech is good, but also some of what Obama stated puts pressure on other nations, whom do not consider the US has the best interest of their people at heart. I note that Obama did go to pains to single out China to ensure dialog was to calm the leadership with this move. The biggest question is will China react to the presence in an area that they consider to be their playground. Statements of increasing presence in many of the US interests in the pacific region will place much pressure on nations Like China and notably Korea, whom he expressly named. A closer and more detailed study of the Asia Pacific Trade agreement would be expressly needed by many nations with a far more open process, IF NOT ONLY to placate all parties involved. A very interesting decade ahead for the region. How the US deal with the region is going to be scrutinised by many. I am sure they are going to be critiqued for many things.
Well.. as I understand it... when China devalues their currency, it hurts not only the US, but Europe as well. Ultimately that's not good policy for anyone. Yes.. it will be an interesting decade.
To right, the way Europe is going at the moment, It could mean spell the end of many economies that are struggling now. With such heavy investment between the US and China both ways. it is more important that the US insure they do the correct thing in the region. I do not think though that the rhetoric is good enough, so more negotiation and discussion will be needed behind closed doors, which may marginalise the goals of the Asia pacific deal. this is an extremely delicate situation. With a long road to follow. One mistake could cripple ANY agreement for years to come.
"Selling" a concept is as important as developing one.. Let's hope Obama is up to the job... or whomever is the next US president. Very delicate........
Are any australians other than myself feeling like one of those fly over states in a US general election, you know like Hawaii or Nevada, who have so little electoral seat votes that they never get a visit from the almighty one. Thanks for coming Big O but in future stay the f@#k away if you can not be bothered to grace us with your divine presence for more than 27 hours. It is my understanding from seeing the extracted sections of the negotiated agreement that the US soldiers will not be under Australian law standards and that the highest ranking US official on the base will be in charge of all procedural and operational decisions concerning the US unit. This means that if a US soldier commiuts a illegal act like say rape or assualt, even if it is off base, that the senior ranking austrealian official has no jurisdiction over either the officer or any legal proceedings. I find this outrageous. Do you think that US military officials would allow our troops to settle down on a US base and then have our senior ranking offical in charge of the australian soldiers, absolutely not no way jose. Just lucky that they do not ask Australian soldiers to guard the Mexican border I guess.
It really is incredible how you are conditioned to believe everything you are told by your government. Don't you realise this is what got the US into the present mess in the first place?
##### He spoke well. There are two Parties, which the LEFT and its supporters seem to forget. Gillard raved on for far too long, repeating herself as usual. Memo to Gillard: "We understand it the FIRST time you say it, you don't have to repeat it in different words 30 seconds later".
Quite right, but that is the problem with the latest US state, Australia. We asked for it since WW2, and that is what we get.....
Since we have freely submitted to the romans we will be allowed to keep all our laws and government while we are assimilated. Ofcourse a small garison will be left on our shores, these individuals are all above the laws of the land they live in and occupy and must be treated with respect. I still say we should send the romans back to rome.
Couldn't believe he stood there telling us all how he plans to become involved in the Asia/Pacific region. Get ya soldiers and (*)(*)(*)(*) off home and look after your own struggling country. We don't need US "help" in the region.
I agree. Many Australians have died for nothing in American military campaigns. They have died in vain.
