At the age of 9 I was mowing yards in the neighborhood for $5. At 14 and living on a US Army base I would clean the common areas for each family for $20 a week and I was bagging groceries at the commissary for tips. At 16 I had a full time job loading semis at the tree nursery. Never was I exploited. I worked because I wanted to be paid.
Nope-just use your eyes, ears and brain. Or is that too tricky for conservatives? Newt is as dumb as the reptile he was named for.
Its like the slipery slope of gay marraige. legalize child labor and have them clean schools then whats next? have them working as salesman at car dealerships or in a coal mine? Child nurses and doctors? do you really want that?
#1) Gingrich obviously has a very short memory or lost all concept of history. Child Labor Laws were enacted to help eliminate the exploitation of children. Ref: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Child_labor_laws_in_the_United_States http://www.dol.gov/dol/topic/youthlabor/ #2) Any RW that approves of this obviously cannot find the other end of a tunnel. Child Labor Laws are not about paper routes, nor working for family; it is about employers offering work to children for them to get man-hours out of someone for less money. In addition, the litigaiton would go through the roof, it would open up magnitudes of legal complications. a. Child abuse, in all forms. b. Personal injury. Note: Insurance would go through the roof. Again RWs, do your homework for once!!!!
Why not? Seriously though, your slippery slope argument slid right past hyperbole and right into the land of WTF?!
Leftists like the child labor laws being irrationally restrictive, it helps them maintain their control over the poor by making Govt social program dollars their only option to support their familiies. It is transparent to most thinking people.
I figured it was lazy righties who cant support their own family so they force their children to work when theys hould be getting an education.... but where would RW talk radio get its truck driving audience?
Only if I was working around asbestos... So, kids are going to get mesothelioma sweeping the floors in their schools, then?
Maybe if the left wouldn't try to make a mountain out of a mole hill. "Gingrich is for child exploitation! " /sarcasm
If a child's family is starving, why would you deprive the 12 year old child of their ability to help by bagging groceries on the weekend?
What's wrong with being a truck driver? Honest work, unlike so many of your fellow liberals sucking welfare money and not even trying to find work.
You haven't seen the reality show? "Deadliest Sweep". WHat about the paper cuts they get from food stamps? Even govt aid can be hazardous to a child's health!
Personally, I feel that kids should work on their education and prepare for the future more than anything else, but school proposed "jobs" for children, where the school approves jobs submitted to the school by businesses or the school itself, and gives them out to children who want it, would teach kids valuable lessons about the hard work and the value of money. Of course, this would be volunteer and the kids would have to pass prerequisites regarding their grades etc... and the school would be responsible for what type of work it is, but I don't see a reason why they shouldn't be able to if they are willing. ^The above is the only way I'd be willing to support it, any other way and I'm totally against it.
You're right G. Kids learn a lot from work. They learn that hard work is rewarded. It is good for all of us that our children learn this.
