Public schools abolished? LOL! Keeping American kids stupid is the goal of public education.

Yeah, better to stay at home and collect unemployment benefits and sponge off the system than to actually work for a living.

Perhaps Newt thinks the middle class can be saved by putting the kids to work.

if he spends his education sweeping up the gym instead of learning, thats far more likely

I don't think anybody is suggesting these kids' educations would be hindered by also working around their schools. Kids have a lot of free time that could be better spent doing something productive. It will allow them to learn the value of money at an early age, and develop a strong work ethic by the time they finish school. Unlike the current system, where kids graduate with college degrees and do not like or know how to work in the real world.

It's the same thing that we are talking about with kids being allowed to basically do the chores around the schoolhouse for some extra cash.

Besides, you were implying that if kids work through school they will turn out to be uneducated, and that is simply not true.

you can direct your kids free time when they get home to whatever menial labor you wish....but when they are at school its to learn.

not to sweep....and not to pray....

next righties will want schools to keep t heir kids overnight to they have NO responsibility for them.

Right, because liberals are the models of responsible parenting.

Kids can learn doing school hours, and then stay an extra couple of hours to help clean up their school. What's wrong with that? It's not like they would be forced to work. If they don't want to, they don't have to. Personally, I would have loved the chance to earn a little bit of extra money going through school.

Well, it certainly isn't wrong to let kids work for money in a limited capacity.

If so, then the whole (*)(*)(*)(*) country should be in jail.

We didn't let ours work during the school year because their studies and sports were more important.

Working part time after school is part of an education.

That's your opinion and your prerogative.

What if my kids aren't interested in sports, and they are very interested in making some extra cash to pay for their hobbies?

I don't have a problem with that.. My daughter babysat some during the school year.. my sons raked yards and cleaned gutters on week endds for extra money.

But most of the focus was on education and sports.. Some kids might take piano lessons rather than play football.. Really makes no difference, does it?

What's wrong with making the kids clean up the school for free?

    It's their school.

Helping to maintain it teaches them something that they can't get out of a book.

If we tax the kids, would you lefties feel better?

Let's tax them... they have to learn the hard lesson of a bloated Government at some point.
