Acutally, while he has made several mistakes and I considered his first two years disastrous, this last year has been very strong for him. He has accomplished a great deal that will earn him a re-election.

Yes indeed. Ability to influence economy is mostly limited but he did accomplish more than was generally expected. Let us hope it keeps turning the right way.

We don't consider the Fed and FDIC to be Obama's fault . . . but they are the legacy of the progressives from the beginning of the 20th century.

Most lefties have no idea how they work, or why what they do is so insidious.

They keep going on about "deregulation" as if "reregulation" is the answer.

Most "righties" are no more informed about the Fed and th FDIC than lefties. I would add that Sarbanes-Oxley, while addressing a valid concern that arose from ENRON, could not have been more poorly written.

Even if your ridiculous claim that Romney looks to the highest bidder to create policy (which he doesn't), I would rather have an economy based on a competitive market capitalistic force, rather than relying on a no-bid solo gigantic centralized government to control every aspect of our society and culture.

The short answer to the title of the thread is that Americans are completely ignorant and don't know any better than to vote for whomever they're told to vote.

75 years of "progressive education" is now paying off handsomely for the elitist Establishment, and the radical leftists who want to control every aspect of society and peoples lives. The left has a captive audience in America's government school classrooms. Why would anyone expect that after years of indoctrination in all things leftist, that the population would not eventually vote themselves into bankruptcy and tyranny??

America is not a free country; we do not have free markets; we do not have a sound currency; the increasingly centralized FedGov is steadily putting police state measures in place; today's generations see nothing wrong with stealing from posterity; etc, on and on...

When you're dealing with a completely ignorant population - it shouldn't come as any suprise that you'll end up with slime like Barack Obama or George Bush as your President.

America is collapsing (actually being deliberately dismantled - but that reality is to complicated to explain to the "skulls of mush"), and the ignorant American population is cheering it on.

    See -

    Go debt clock Go!!!!

You're doing a find job Americans - keep up the good work... in the 10 seconds it took me to write this last sentence?? You've managed to burn thru another $480,000, and handed yet to be born Americans the IOU... fine work - party on Big Government, party on!!!

Independents are fence sitters. They vote with which way the wind is blowing. wait a few days, they will change their minds again.

You're almost right. I knew I was voting for Reagan early on and never changed my mind. Same with Bush Sr, twice. Does that mean we will simply follow the GOP into the extreme whackjob realm that it has become? Nope. The thing that irritates the mindless drones who vote solely based on party, is that we Independents analyze and think for ourselves - instead of having a party or movement do it for us.
After watching the GOP candidates for months, I am solidly in the Obama camp. I think the GOP has just plain gone over the deep end. You will not see me change my mind on this, I guarantee it. This is the case with most Independents. That's not just my opinion, that's a fact that is supported by solid evidence:

    RCP Average 2/10 - 3/4 -- 49.0 44.4 Obama +4.6
    Rasmussen Tracking 3/2 - 3/4 1500 LV 45 43 Obama +2 NBC News/Wall St. Jrnl 2/29 - 3/3 RV 50 44 Obama +6

    Answering the original op.

Because most people don't watch the news. Most people work all day, go home and listen to their kids watch cartoons while they do more work. Then maybe once or twice a week they'll watch 30 minutes of left wing media news before going to bed. ie. most people aren't informed.

You have to watch Fox news to get the whole news and know what is going on.

And that belief right there explains why the right is so far out of touch, they might as well be in another universe.

And I assume that Obama is also responsible for the "failed social wefare programs" that have been in place for the last 20 years?

And I assume you believe that "charity" should take care of providing a "safety net" to the poor?

And I assume that you have no problem with the "failed corporate wefare programs of subsidies" that have been in place, and have only increased in the last 10 years?

How do you know so much about "a system that keeps you poor and dependent on others?" Personal experience?

Do you realize that our disabled population makes up a big part of the "social welfare recipients?" Guess what. . .there is no way out of poverty when you have a IQ under 70, or you are suffering from a major mental illness, or you are physically disabled. . .ONLY social programs help you to meet your survival needs!

I watch FOX news every day (Megan Kelly). They have been saying the economy is definitely getting better. Do you agree with them?
I find that a lot of people who watch FOX news or claim it's the best media source, ignore it when they don't like what it says.

FOX really isn't all THAT different than CNN or MSNBC in that, ALL of them will jump on a story, if it will get them viewers. It's simply a matter of how they spin it and / or how long they'll run it.
For example, MSNBC and CNN ran the Jeremiah Wright, Bill Ayers et.al. stories every day and night for a month before the '08 election. They ran the WeinerGate story day & night for probably two weeks or so. FOX ran those stories more often and for a longer period of time.
MSNBC does the same thing with stories that favor LibDems. CNN is actually fair (which means Conservs call it "Liberal" - darn facts and stuff!).
But regardless of station or party, if the station smells blood in the water, their sharks will bite.
