The way the article is written and even the title of this thread are part of the problem.

If I were a cop riding shotgun with my partner, and we received a call about a possible armed subject, and my partner parked my door in the subject's face, I would be mad as hell. Why? Because I would be placed in a situation with no time to assess it. At a minimum, I would ensure that he or she could not place anyone in that situation again (demotion or firing).

How disengenuius; he was considered "armed" he was pointing and waving a (*)(*)(*)(*)ing gun shaped object with the orange tip removed.

Who the hell lets their 12 year old pop the orange tip off of a plastic gun and let's them point it at people? No, to hell with them and their emotional state, they should be charged with involuntary man slaughter and should be forced to pay for traumatizing the officers by forcing them to kill a 12 year old in self defense.

Always blame the cop, don't blame the waste of DNA known as Tamir's parents that created the little thug to be.

(And this area of Cleveland I know well, and I know how many home boy drops happen at the local ER's, the cops had every right to assume he was armed based on the dispatch and surrounding environment)

The cops didn't actually know if this as the right person, if he was actually armed, etc when they arrived. How could they? They didn't take any time to assess the situation. Just drove right up and shot him.

But going by what you're saying, if someone pointed you out to a cop and said you were armed that cop would be fully justified in drawing his weapon and shooting you on the spot?

he was a child playing cops and robbers and the cops didn't know he was playing.... they killed a unarmed child with a toy gun

they did not know at the time that what they were doing was wrong, but it was wrong just the same, hindsight is 20\20

the cops were the one that shot the kid.... so yes, they have part of the blame for the accident

I never said the cops were wrong to assume he was armed, they did assume that, with hindsight we can see they assumed wrongly, it was a accident.... had they known what we know know they would not of done it... as they now know with hindsight they were wrong and it was just a child with a toy gun

I am saying the city will lose the case due to this wrongful death being partly their fault, partly because of the lack of communication that it might be a toy gun

just because they police were wrong in this situation, doesn't mean they were bad cops, just means they made a mistake

the child made a mistake too, and he has already paid for it with his life

Those 2 analogies do not match. It wasn't an accident that they killed him. It was intentional. And he wasn't unarmed, he was armed with a BB gun. And he wasn't a child, he was a teenager. I have never heard of a 170lb child.

From my experience I can tell you this, even if they knew it was a BB gun, they would still tell him to drop it and use deadly force if he refused.

So no. They were not wrong to shoot. It was a 100% justified shoot. No wrong in it. I don't care if it was a BB gun or a completely unloaded real one. The threat is the same. Please stop trying to make it seem like this was just some accident. It wasn't, he presented a threat to officers that was seen as deadly force, the officers responded with deadly force.

Negative sir. White black Asian I don't care. If I see you armed, I'm going to disarm you and verify you are legally able to carry. If you try to draw your weapon you will be met with deadly force

I don't know how to get through to you people. This was not a mistake, some accident. Tamir was armed. He made a threatening motion trying to go for his BB gun (calling it toy plays down what it is. A nerf gun is a toy gun a BB or pellet gun are not toys. Why? Because they are capable of causing serious injury). The cops saw this as deadly force. They used deadly force. It was justified. They did no wrong in this what so ever. They were not wrong to do it. They were not wrong to assume it was real. Stop trying to find a way to say they were somehow wrong in some way for the actions taken.

You've ignored the obvious again so I'll repeat it:
The officer shouted out 3 times - what did he shout out three times?. Now try saying out aloud any sentence three times in a coherent manner in less than 2 seconds. And also, put what down? Are you really going to maintain that the LEO ordered the boy three times to put the gun onto the ground, and in two seconds? How was he supposed to do that without touching the gun!

He also shot the boy within 1 second of exiting the car. Must've been yelling really fast too!

No what's unbelievable is how people act this guy was just a sweet innocent angel gunned down in cold blood by that mean ole white officer because he was just a Little black boy. Just call it what it is. The guy made the mistake of reaching for a weapon and police shot him in self defense

I'm not putting words in this officers mouth. But if your adrenaline is going that 1-2 seconds is an eternity. Could he say put it down/ drop the gun quickly in 3 seconds sure. Could it be understood? That's a different story. Maybe maybe not. But wether or not he said it, you do not pull out a gun on a police. After all police don't have to tell you when to or not to do anything thats illegal for you not to do it. Tamir made his choice. It was fatal

Its looking as though this guy should have never been on the police force to begin with. I can't understand how he fired on this kid 2 seconds after his cruiser came to a stop.

That's because I'm willing to bet you have never had police training. When someone threatens you with a gun, you do not give them the opportunity to shoot you. It's not complicated. Even if your intention is to surrender don't go for the gun. Lay down get cuffed let them take it from you.

So you have had police training which gives you an insight that no one else on the forum has. Can you tell me what commands were given to the kid in 2 seconds.

In an open carry state, why were they so up in arms because a person had a gun? He never fired the supposed gun and he wasn't aggressive when they arrived. In fact, the gun wasn't even in his hands when the cops got there.

So, if the cops claimed he yelled for Tamir to drop the gun he wasn't holding, wouldn't he have to go for the gun to drop it?

    Come on... use your head.

The report to *911* and then forwarded to the officers was that the guy was "pointing a gun at PEOPLE" (not just "carrying" it) ...

Why would my police training be able to determine what another officer I don't even know possibly said? I couldn't tell you what he said if said or how fast he said. Wether or not he said drop the gun/ put it down is irrelevant. ( to do either means you already have it in your hands ) you don't point a gun at the cops.

So let me ask you. Do you hold Tamir the least bit responsible for his own death?

    Yeah... and?

If they arrive at the scene and don't find what the dispatcher says was happening, there's not need to act as if it were.

    - - - Updated - - -

Again, they did not find that happening when they arrived.

If a dispatcher tells the cops a riot is happening and they rush to the scene and find no riot... are they suppose to still rush people and start breaking up fights that aren't happening?

Actually it does. Don't feel so special. I know personally of a case in Bellaire Tx, where a kid who was just drunk and not that disorderly was accidentally shot and killed while being handcuffed. Very poor and sloppy technique. The city has a history of aggressive policing that is not entirely unwarranted with a number of other incidents reported. However, if Bellaire wasn't partially surrounded by the "hood" including bordering the SW side of Houston it would be much better. The community tolerates it without much pushback, considering the crime, virtually all of it committed by minorities.

No, he didn't. He only got to lift his shirt before being shot.

Also, the cops claimed he told Tamir to drop it. How else do you drop a gun without touching it?
